I wasn't sure if this was a difficult song until I saw so many guitarists struggling to get this right. Eddie was a genius , maybe the best rock guitarist yet.
I have been up since 03:00, took a friend for surgery, remembered I want to play this when I get home, found your lesson to make productive use of my waiting.... PERFECT LESSON! Well done, Sir! HOOYAH!
Love the work you do! I grew up listening the VH and I think EVH “some timesed” most of the time, he was a never ending “try it different”player and that’s what makes him so awesome!
It’s clear to me that you are not a music teacher. They would have made a hash of this song by going into intervals and mode theory. I appreciate that you just get right to the reason we all want to play. Making some music. Thanks again. You rock.
Wow Marty been listening to this song most of my life and never knew how much effort went into this! Thank you for opening my ears man!.. I'll never hear this the same thanks to you!..You Rock!✌️💛🤘
People need to listen to the Isolated track of this song. Ed is really doing some great things on this song, that most people just don't bother to hear. That's why in my opinion, no one could touch him completely.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I just watched a video of { Im the one } isolated and it was slowed down to half speed, pretty much like the Tascam guitar trainer I have. People need to hear this stuff, Eds playing is truly Sick.
Oh yeah I listen to that I totally agree with you I heard things I never heard and I've been listening to that song for 45 years lol I think the part when Dave comes in and starts singing cool Groove that he was a freaking genius
One of my fav's 4 sure. You've got 1 hell of a repatra gping my man.Get this one down would be awesome.Marty,I don't ever end up learning tghew whole song on any of these.I'm just not that good yet,but I'm having fun tryin.
Marty, great instruction. Pretty sure he only plays two strings on first note of intro..he plays two tracts of single notes though which creates a similar sound.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I have an iso track of the guitar and a killer backing track without guitar. It's the original band too. Let me know and I can email it to ya. Peace!
with all Respect, when it says..."she wants to send him a letter..." at 1:40, isn't that (3) different chords back to the A instead of alternating between just (2) chords A,D? I hear A....D....Flat Chord....A. . . . . . . . . . .A...D...Flat Chord...A. Right??? I'm sure of it....with all respect. Also, at 15:26 he bends the 2nd and 3rd strings upward together the second time around for a 3rd note combo. Let me know your opinion. Love your Channel by the way.
EDDIE WAS THE GREATEST GUITARIST,SINCE JIMI HENDRIX,THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER EDDIE VAN HALEN OR JIMI HENDRIX EVER AGAIN!🎸🎸,AND THATS NOT ONLY A LOSS TO MUSIC, ITS A LOSS TO ALL US GUITARIST,IF YOU LIKE THEM OR NOT!!!!R.I.P.JIMI AND EDDIE, SEE AND HEAR YOU BOTH IN THE NEXT WORLD,🎸🎸🎼🎶🎶.REMEMBER JIMI AND EDDIE COULD PLAY KEYBOARDS,BASS GUITAR,DRUMS,AND WORK THE MIXING CONTROL BOARD!!!!!!!!!👍✌️😎🇺🇸
True. I guess the melodic phrases throughout kind of takes the place. Although there is that little instrumental breakdown thing they do which kinda sorta has a guitar break. 🤷
I don't want to be that guy but this isn't really correct. This song has a lot of tiny little details in it which prevent it from being cracked like some cheap safe. The verses only do the walk down (turn around) riff once > at the end of the 4th measure. Then into that "pre chorus" climb.
I haven't watch from beginning to end non-stop but does he talk about amp settings AT ALL!? Why is it so hard to show a quick shot of his amp? None of these guys will talk about this like it's some guarded secret.
Well that was great,, very informative,, and some great little tips and nuances! Very helpful! However, if I may, yu never covered the controversial and nastiest chord I've ever heard that he alternates in every so often... nastiest thing ever. Yu never mentioned or perhaps more likely, purposely avoided it as NO ONE really knows what he was actually doing on "that chord"....we will call it "that chord".....everyone "knos" what I'm talking about 😅🙏🎵🎶 Edit: I think it has something to do with a Maj 6th in lieu of the Bm7. I saw someone comment as I too think if memory serves me, it's in the chorus , that nasty ass chord
Hey Marty - another great lesson Question: Do you have an email I could contact you at on some questions regarding gear/gear usage? Many thanks in advance
Hey man, for now I just use messenger on Instagram. I need to set up an email for the channel. To do list this weekend lol. Instagram is Martys_guitars

Always loved "Jamie's cryin".
It has great drums, great bass, an awesome guitar, all with a great song in a semi-comedic tone.
It has it all!
I agree! 😎💯
RUclips asked me to rate you! You're one of my favorite people! so I gave you top ratings! Nice lesson once again!! Thanks Marty!
Aw man thanks! 🎵🎵🎵🎵🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻

Thanxxxx Marty for doing the VH tutorials much appreciated

Will do my friend! So glad to be helping you all out. Thanks so much for watching.

For sure man. Eddie had so much personality and nuances within his parts. 💯

Trust me brother you are not the only one who worships at the feet of the greatness that will 4 ever be Edward VanHalen
Yes , there's a version using studio mics that is excellent. You can clearly hear the basics of the song without the other guitar overlays.
Fom 7 min --to 10 min is a challenging part b4 the bridge --took days of practice but I got it --thankyou so much !
Amazing stuff..
Thank you
Great tone
In the chorus when they’re singing Jamie’s Crying they play a Major 6 interval instead of the Bm7 notes on the 7th fret like they do on the verses.
Great tab --thankyou !
just love your unison bends ---they are rather tricky to play --not easy but they sound right on the money !
Oh Marty, you are a Carolina fan. Coming from me a State fan, you are still a good guy and asset to RUclips.
This is GREAT stuff! Thanks for the lesson! Would love to see you do Where Have All The Good Times Gone!

Hey Marty You Got That Song Right On The Money An Definitely With Those Fingers
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching and for the kind words. 😎🙌
Sounds Great Marty
Thank you man! 😎🎵
How can I set my volante to get this delay sound?
My favorite VH SONG ❤ its the coolest
It's Friday night, at 10:47, and I have to go downstairs, fire up my amp, and see how I've been doing it in the WRONG key/positions for many years!
Lol! Late night jams!!! 😂🤟🏻
Just realized Mic Mars got inspiration from Ed in shout at the devil. Same intro to the song as this with the bends
Wore dat out in 78.I turned 18 that September ,You could drink at 18 in N.C. back then.
What kinda effects ya got going on Marty?Ya may have said & I missed it?
Awesome song brother
Thank you for watching man! I love the tune as well. 🤟🏻😎
Great lesson... Love how you make a mistake and say sorry.. are you sure you aren't Canadian...LOL
lol! No .... but grew up close to Canada. 😄
Marty, great instruction. Pretty sure he only plays two strings on first note of intro..he plays two tracts of single notes though which creates a similar sound.
how are you getting your VH tone here? what amp?
Best EVH lessons on youtube! ..........maybe Sucker In a 3 Piece next?
Thanks man, glad you like them. I appreciate the support too! I love Sucker In A 3 Piece. Been thinking about this one!

Verse riff is tricky --from 4 min to 7 min ---practise makes perfect !

Respect for your work. But the bridge has a bit more. Open B,E and a 3rd chord, G in there. Cheers!
EDDIE IS the One and only!!!!!!!!!!!!;
Might be only song by VH without solo.
True. I guess the melodic phrases throughout kind of takes the place. Although there is that little instrumental breakdown thing they do which kinda sorta has a guitar break. 🤷

At 6 : 45 ---that triple 7 /damp section is tricky ==needs a lotta practise!---Eddie was a difficult to follow guitarist!
