This is what happened according to musewiki: Originally, the performance was intended by the organisers to have been completely mimed, however Matthew Bellamy managed to persuade the organisers to allow him to sing the vocals live. After tapping on the microphone, the backing track was cut, at which point Bellamy exclaimed "WOOAH!", after which it continued. However, Bellamy decided not to go on.
i like how whoever was in charge of playing the backing track completely fucked up such a simple thing, and muse just stopped pretending to play and left roflmao
From Musewiki: Arguably (Matt's) highest live note to date is the final scream after the chorus in the Radio 1 performance of Muscle Museum (Hey You Crazy Kids), where he approaches an A#5.
in the first of the two screams right before the chorus at 1:22, he hits something around a C#5 in what sounds like his chest register. That's 3 semitones higher than his highest notes on Dead Inside and Feeling Good, and 2 semitones above his tremendous belted B4 at the Reading Festival from 2011. Of course, the technique is nowhere near as refined, but this could be the highest note Matt has ever hit without using falsetto.
Highest notes ever reached by matthew bellamy, this is why this live version is probably one of the most important of muse. Oh and, can he have a guitar ?
The greatest part is that Muse wasn't that big back then. So when they came out and Matt was singing all crazy they were dumbfounded at first. Kinda standing there are just thinking, "What the hell is this dude on." After he says, "Can I have a guitar," I think the crowd gets it and they go nuts after the song is over.
I want this album cover sooo bad! Its so funny to see Dom playing bass and the camera guy is all up on him, and chris in the back just chillin' and who knows what matt's doing in the front haha i get to see them for the first time on sat!!! sooo looking forward to the best concert of my life!
They did. They've done it a few times when they've been forced to mime (they did it on the Live and Kicking performance, as well as Matt waving his hands over the keyboard when he should have been playing it). On CD:UK Matt waved the mic in the air when he should have been singing and Chris ate his mic! But it was topped recently on Quelli che... il Calcio when they all swapped places with Dom on guitar and vocals and Matt on the drums!
Like a boss! xD And after they put this photo in Muscle Museum US single back cover to when everytime they watch it they say "Oh, yeah! Our first playback time, good memories" xDD
Okay: G = chorus in Mircocuts, backing vocal in the second chorus of Megalomania, following the opening guitar solo of Knights Of Cydonia (at about 1.45) , falsetto at the end of live versions of Bliss, falsetto at the end of Butterflies and Hurricanes on HAARP etc. G# = The end of Showbiz and the end of Microcuts (at around 2.54) This = highest ever note, approaching an A# (2:09).
it was a prerecorded backing track. The sound tech was an idiot. They arrived at the festival and were told not to play, so he just went nuts with the vocals as Dom and Chris mimed Bass and Drums (respectively).
They were forced to have a backing track and originally the entire performance was supposed to be mimed. Matt persuaded them to let him at least sing live and if you haven't seen any other performances where they've been forced to lip sync, they usually switch places and purposefully badly mime playing to get the point across that they're not even playing. There's even a video where Dom acts as though he's the lead singer in the interview and plays the bass while matt plays the drums and Chris plays the guitar. It's quite hilarious and the interviewers totally bought it up. Shows how much they know.
studio:Ill do it on my own. Live ipswich,2000: woooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaooooooo doooooooooooooooooooooooooooww waaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaooooooooooooooooooo
It is indeed. They often take advantage of when they are forced to mime and switch places. Matt playing piano without even touching the keys on Live & Kicking, and Chris swallowing the mic on CD:UK. Though they topped themselves recently, as Dom took Matt's place at the front while Matt dicked about on the drums!
LMAO!~!~ when Matt says HEY YOU CRAZY KIDS!!! it cracks me up!! LOL I really wanna see that video! HAHA ! and when he screams!!! LOL!! hes just a HUGE LEGEND !!
@SheryP96 that would be 4 times now, they did it on a tv show called "Live and kicking" (see the contradiction here) while "playing" new born I LOVE MUSE TOO =D

People, he was not drunk. They just were told to mime, and we all know that you don't simply told Muse to mime. And Chris and Dom swipped places.
"Can I've a guitar" kills me everytime lol
pvksl haha ye, although I thought it was "I don't have a guitar"
god I didn't even notice that lmao
In my opinion, the best performance of Muscle Museum just because of the sheer madness of it!
"To prove I've made a big mistake WHOOOOA ! Thank you.
TheSOADlive Awkward ending and he just pretended like it was meant to be like that xD
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That scream is brutal, jesus.

What animal got killed?
Jkjk I love them

+Shinku Quickman I'm pretty sure they were kicked off stage
Happy 22nd birthday to Muse's greatest live performance of all time

what song was that in reading 2011?
@@H0NDAJET New Born
If anyone asks me who muse are, I'm just gonna play them this video
nice profile pic boiiyo
Even when I don't see Muse doing playback, it's still the most hilarious experience.
ahah being able to sing like that without being drunk is quite a performance.
ripitchip101 are you sure he wasn't drunk?
@@haralabospap7091 it was mimed
Awesome!! The scream
Never ask Muse to make playback, or they'll ruin your TV show ! xD
"HEY YOU CRAZY KIDS!"
"WAAAHHHH"
"Can i at least have a guitar?"
"Woah...."
The WOAAW at the end is the best Muse thing I've ever heard.
OMG THIS IS A BLESSING TO MY EARS
It is a testament to how amazing this song is that even sung like this it still sounds awesome
Matt just havin' the time of his life up there lol
"I've made a big mistake" *music turns off*
Matt's singing in this has to be the most epic thing ever
WHOAAAAAAAH!
2:25 I love the emphasis he gives to "I have played in every toilet" as he is playing one right now xD
when I tap my toe on the table at 3 am 1:22

This had me in tears hahahaha

Hey you cwazy kids :'D and those screamings... love them :D
The greatest part is that Muse wasn't that big back then. So when they came out and Matt was singing all crazy they were dumbfounded at first. Kinda standing there are just thinking, "What the hell is this dude on."
After he says, "Can I have a guitar," I think the crowd gets it and they go nuts after the song is over.
It's an insult making one of the best bands in the world perform to a backing track, the same thing happened to Nirvana and Radiohead.
They didn't let them play live, so Matt somehow managed to just get the access to the mic, and started singing that way lol
I want this album cover sooo bad! Its so funny to see Dom playing bass and the camera guy is all up on him, and chris in the back just chillin' and who knows what matt's doing in the front haha i get to see them for the first time on sat!!! sooo looking forward to the best concert of my life!

I’m sad it was cut off midway through. I want to hear what he would’ve done for the “guitar” solo at the end which is actually already sung.
This is my new favorite video in existence
Brilliant ! shame there isn't a video. I love this.
Matt rules.
There should be a love button!
"to prove I have made a big mistakeee yeeaahhh.. WOAH!! Thank you, thank you very much, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!" Rofl.
Matt just shouting "HEY YOU CRAZY KIDS!" Is my new text tone :')
Classic muse through and through, have to love 'em
the "woooah" made me die of laughter😂😂😂this is too funny
I love this pic. Matts just chilling on the amp and I think chris and dom switched instuments. But the "hey you crazy kids" into is the best ever.
ive always tried to picture what itd be like if matt sang without a guitar, i now have a pretty good perspective
I love how the lyric fit the situation perfectly
Another reason why I love muse!
this is like, the best version of muscle museum EVER
God I nearly died laughing.
Muse forever lol
I have "HEY YOU CRAZY KIDS" on my message ringtone P:
this is what you get for asking muse to mime lol
I love Matt for this.
Origin of Muse
Spiral Static I will buy it immediately if they include a video this. XD

0:06 HEY YOU, CRAZY KIDS! AAH!
This is the single greatest thing ive ever seen in my entire existance
it actually is a photo of the gig of the song that you are listening now lol
he always sounds good!
Okay:
G = chorus in Mircocuts, backing vocal in the second chorus of Megalomania, following the opening guitar solo of Knights Of Cydonia (at about 1.45) , falsetto at the end of live versions of Bliss, falsetto at the end of Butterflies and Hurricanes on HAARP etc.

And they still F***ing ROCK!
1:58 = the original Human Goat
...and that is why I love Muse. (:
Matt never get old PLEASE !
They say his last note after the scream was his HIGHEST NOTE EVER, reaching an A5
i wish there was video of this :L
This is exactly why they're the best band in the world!
it was a prerecorded backing track. The sound tech was an idiot. They arrived at the festival and were told not to play, so he just went nuts with the vocals as Dom and Chris mimed Bass and Drums (respectively).
i love this so much
Yay! I finally heard that quote for the first time!
The screams were awesome. They are original, so original that NOBODY messes with the muse!
1:22 When you step on the LEGO piece you lost to build your masterpiece.
I love this so much. Download would be so cool....
the best live performance ever
I would pay good money to see the actual video of this
"Thank you very much!"
Hahahahahaha such a classic.
omg even when he's hammered or not trying or crazy he's still sounds amazing sigh!
Drunk?
What an ending? Planned?
LOVE THIS!!
HEYYYYYYY YOU CRAZY KIDS!!!!!! haha i love how matt just draped himself over the speaker...he's such a goofball
ARGH. Matt should have SO added those vocals to the beginning of the record Muscle Museum!!
Why is Dom playing bass and Chris playing drums in the photo is this inception
They were forced to have a backing track and originally the entire performance was supposed to be mimed. Matt persuaded them to let him at least sing live and if you haven't seen any other performances where they've been forced to lip sync, they usually switch places and purposefully badly mime playing to get the point across that they're not even playing. For Muscle Museum they just went off stage and left Matt to his own devices which, as you can tell, was a fiasco.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH IT'S UNECCESARY
Wow. I just realized that the vocals were live, but the instruments must have been playbacked. Dom and Chris switched.
definitely what they do if they have to lip sync and miming
I just fell off my bed from laughter.
2:34 WOAH, thank you
studio:Ill do it on my own.
Live ipswich,2000: woooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaooooooo doooooooooooooooooooooooooooww waaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaooooooooooooooooooo

you mean the bass? they asked muse to mime the song and you know what happens when you ask muse to mime;D
