DRIVING the stunning NEW Aston Martin Vantage | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat

- A TWIN-TURBO V-8!!! In this review of the new Aston Martin Vantage, Henry Catchpole ponders wherefore and how art the 656bhp baby of the range is like a James Bond film. Of course we are familiar with 007 driving a silver slice of Newport Pagnell or Gaydon’s finest, but it’s far from the only predictable trope - music, gadgets, villains, M, Q, Moneypenny, all are expected. And so it is with the spec sheet of a Vantage.
The looks are instantly recognisable - more so than the last generation - with classically Aston Martin design cues. And it is stunning. The engine is up the front, as you’d expect, albeit behind the front wheels. Predictably the power is going solely to the rear and it is a V8 providing the 656bhp and 590lb ft. More specifically it is a 4-litre, twin-turbo with its origins at AMG. It’s a script that is comforting in its recognisability.
It is also very recognisable if you have perused the particulars of the Aston Martin DB12 that was launched in 2023. In fact, save for a couple of seats and a very minor discrepancy in the power figures, they look like nearly identical cars. Even the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tyres are the same size, front and rear. So, one of the big questions for Henry Catchpole was whether the new Vantage would feel markedly different to drive.
The setting for the test was the countryside near Seville in southern Spain, with the blood red Rio Tinto running through it. We also took a new Vantage - this time decked out in an F1 safety car colour scheme - to the Monteblanco circuit for some fast laps. Of course there was the opportunity to try out the handling with the new nine-stage traction control turned off, but it was also interesting to see how the Vantage’s 50 percent increase in cooling helped the car cope with 32 degrees celsius (90F) temperatures.
At £165,000 or $191,000, the new Aston Martin Vantage is in competition with the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the Mercedes AMG GT, the Ferrari Roma and potentially the Maserati MC20. In other words it has to stack up. We hope you enjoy this review. Let us know in the comments whether you think the new Vantage is a Daniel Craig or a George Lazenby. Hope you all enjoy this! After the DB12 last year, it feels like Aston is on a bit of a roll and I loved the exterior spec of this silver car (even the green brake calipers, which was a surprise). Familiar but in a good way. Thank you, as ever for watching, commenting, liking, subscribing, sharing and all that good stuff. It really does help us.
Another top review 👌🏻
It raked my moon. Top notch review as always.
You look far too tall next to the Vantage.
Awesome job.
¡Greetings from México!
So damned happy to see your reviews here. I'm not sold on the green bits, but then...I don't have to worry about being able to afford such poor choices. Well done.
10/10 thundered my ball.
It looks absolutely gorgeous, like a baby One-77, I would definitely get this over a 911 Turbo, but idk why I'm speaking as if I'm not a broke ass college student
Hey, we can all dream can't we! Maybe someday you look back on this comment and laugh before taking your Vantage out for a drive.
God bless!
I have to admit, I love that the front is a bit of a throwback to the One-77.
@@dammyo6010 That's the plan!
The rival of this car is Roma not Turbo S.
@@omerfarukcan4407Roma is considered a GT car so the rival of that would be the DB12. The Ferrari won’t depreciate like the Aston Martin and I think it’s also a nicer car. Certainly less fussy and more understated which astons used to be.
This new generation of Aston's are future classics
I read a comment many years ago under one of HCs videos which simply said “I could listen to this man describe a cheese sandwich “ still true to this day. Aston also amazing.
Maybe it was once Henry Catchpole that made a three course meal out of a cheese sandwich simply by describing it? 😃
The way he does his review are Amazing
This front is 1000 times more beautiful than the previous version!
yep those Kuwaiti can certainly make a nice looking car.
agreed
They cleaned up the tail pipes too by fattening them up, the previous had those strange skinny pipes.
That grille is just too large for me, the perfect size was on the original V12 Vanquish IMO
And all they had to do, is go back to the One-77
This has got to be the prettiest I’ve seen this car on RUclips! Catchpole hit it out of the park yet again. Thank you Hagerty for enabling videos like this, and Camissa’s Piechisode to continue being produced. With Top Gear gone and Grand Tour going the way of the dodo soon, you’re our only hope.
We've got Throttle House too!
Can recommend Top dead Center and all the gear, some great car content coming
always a pleasure getting notified for another Henry catchpole video
Thank you
@@HenryCatchpole thank you.
at the end, would you say that the flaws of this Aston martin Vantage (as well as other aston martins), are making this car better than Porsches, Audis (which can be considered as boring, flawless) ?
You can't deny they make a gorgeous car, and that interior looks better than many other current cars twice its price with manufacturers using haptic buttons and massive screens.
Despite all the reviews that just dropped for this car, Henry’s will always be the first I go to. Yet another masterpiece of scripting, camerawork, and editing.
Henry Catchpole- Superb Automotive Journalism. I wish his videos would come out a little more frequently than they presently do. His expressions and overall knowledge are a real treat to watch, as a car enthusiast.
Even as a young man watching Sean Connery as 007 loved Aston Martin cars and now as an older man, I absolutely still love Aston Martin cars
it's gone way past stunning to freakingly, magnificently beautiful..
I Remember Seeing A V12 Vantage in New Castle last year and Boy, Chefs Kiss
I hope we get a V12 Vantage with the facelift.
That amg v8 is a masterpiece easily one of the best twin turbo v8s ever made
Catchpole is my go to for reviews. Consistently excellent.
Baby one-77 vibes, and Catchpole is always fantastic
That green is absolutely beautiful.
The most elegance motor journalist in our time
Love my '19 Vantage and this video confirms the new, new Vantage is an improvement. I've driven mine on track and like he said, the Vantage is just...fun. Not hard-edged track monster like a GT3RS but definitely capable on-track. A great combination of speed, beauty, ability on-track and on the road, and cool Bond.
Henry and Steve Sutcliffe both reviewing this beautiful car is a wonderful thing for me (you both have such soothing voices). The widescreen format enhances this particular video too. Lovely job (as always) Mr Catchpole
That colour combo looks absolutely gorgeous what a stunningly beautiful car and now drives like it looks well done 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just scrolled through 50+ videos in my subscription feed and came back to this. Not disappointed
Finally we have seen a beautiful car again ❤🎉
Hearing Henry it gives us flashback to early 2000 life’s great cod is about skills, top gear is uncensored.
Finally a Vantage as it meant to be. 🎉. Thanks for another solid review.
Gorgeous looking vehicle , the interior is a major improvement to the last one.
And that engine sound, typical grunty AMG but with the Aston Martin tweaks.
A stunner !
I have to say, this is one of the best for a long while now. Superb.
Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. Thanks.
Aston Martin did GREAT job with new Vantage! Henry always has great videos.
You are the best. Simply talented. Thank you for what you do.
When I first saw that reviews for this car had been posted I went straight to you Henry - you didn’t disappoint- thank you. What stunning car and very well done Aston and of course Mr Stroll … 👏👏👏
Great review of a beautiful car! Thanks Harry.
That green and yellow combo really highlights the lines and curves of that gorgeous design.
Have an early 4.3 and now drive a 2010 V12 manual. This new generation looks and sounds fabulous, body shape very influenced by the original 2006 V8. Love the arches, stance, interior... I love all the power of the 4.3 living at 7000 (7300 on mine now) makes it a strange experience from turbo engine fed drivers. Just brilliant, A great achievement!
Your v12 is the best of all IMO, what a car!
@@rare6499 I am completely smitten with it! 20s with PS4Ss next week... 😏
Henry has to be one of my most favorite motor journalist
its been a while since I needed a car poster in my room but here we are with this stunning Vantage...goodness me that design is sharp
This, in three pedals would be absolutely remarkable! 🔥 This new Vantage looks gorgeous! 😍
Love from South Africa! 🇿🇦✌🏾
Henry needs his own channel, no offense to Hagerty…he is just that good
He had his own channel.
@@tamasszabo8824 are you referring to carfection?
F
I second that..... Henry is the reason why I subscribed
nah, the compliment each other really well. Alone i don't think he (or any of them) would have enough material to stay relevant.
Another Master Class (to me) review of what appears to be a great all new vehicle.
I love Porsches and have a GT3 and two others.
But this car is absolutely stunning!!
For me it would never replace my GT3, but I would take it over the Porsche Turbo any day!!
Quickly becoming one of my favorite car channels
Best videos on YT, thanks Henry 🎉
Finally the interior, dash and steering wheel has improved over the previous model
It looks, sounds, feels, is built amazing! This could be it.
Great car, great presentation, great drone work. Excellent drone work in fact. Congrats!
That drone shot over the bridge, bravo!
Great review. The Aston paint palette is awesome,
1:53 top view of a car has never looked so stunning my goodness
Love your videos, Henry, so glad Hagerty has picked you up.
That rear end looks absolutely fantastic !!!!!!
Best vantage review out of all of them out there
The stance is absolutely amazing.
This review definitely Fingered my Gold.
In other words, worth staying up at 2 in the morning to see it accidentally.
Not surprised it's not a precision instrument but for something to cruise down the coast with some panache, looking mysterious set to a great soundtrack... this may as well be like Lazenby's DBS.
I sure hope it's more memorable than that. Sounds like it delivers! I just wish it wasn't Turbo S priced. For how good it looks though and how much One77 I'm getting out of it too, what a thing.
Magnificent to watch!!! Sir HC!!🫡
This would be my dream car for sure
The silver and gold-ish rims look so good. Aston definitely knows how to build a beautiful rig.
Great looking car. I get a little GR86 from the front end. I think it's mostly the winglet inlets next to the grill that are doing that. Always enjoy a Catchpole video!
Looks great, sounds fabulous 👍
Finally a real professional evaluation of the new vantage.
Had a 2019. Enjoyed it. Hope they sorted out its poor build quality. Wonderful review. As always Mr. Catchpole. Legend.
It is definittely a really good looking car. Love the looks and the sound. With the DB12 Aston Martin is on a roll. Sweet!
What a spec from the owner ❤
Aston is on a roll with this latest generation of cars. Can't wait to see your review of the new Vanquish when it comes out 🔥
Love Henry! Love this Aston!
Whole video looks stunning but some of those drone shots were just amazing, bravo drone person! Oh, car looks good too 🤪
thank you for a proper review
That drone shot at 5:10 is absolutely fantastic
Stunning!
Henry is such a breath if fresh air!!
Great Henry. Great car. Perfect
Beautiful!
The car looks really nice, but the new front end is too "friendly-looking". I would've liked a more angry headlight.
The AMG V8 seems to sound A LOT better here than it does in any Benz!
Great review, as always! Henry rules! 😎
Henry + Aston = perfection
Forget the cheese sandwich, if Henry described my own life i'd listen. Description being the art, Henry is one of the best there. ❤
I actually love the fact there is no technical evolution like a hybrid engine, just old school V8 power. But there is a lot going on with this Vantage, it’s not just a facelift, it’s a new car. They fixed almost all the issues with the last generation…
Love this car.
Thank you
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Yes I will take it in this spec thank you.
I had the privilege of driving the original Bond Aston, DB5, on track - i would kill to get to drive the new Vantage, its stunning!
Bond films comparison was on point👌
Indeed stunning
Epic im loving this car
Gorgeous car. Love the GT3 also
4:30 - Lovely shot
Yet another great review...and gee, Aston Martin is on a roll, the new DB12 interior makes a world of difference to both cars and finally the Vantage looks like an Aston again...and not a blown up MX5/Miata. Think they also made the right choice not focusing on its track performance but more on the playful and sporty GT side of things. That sets it apart from Porsche and others. I d say it s the Charlene Wittstock/ of Monaco of cars, very athletic but unlike the superstars in sports: simply looks great and graceful no matter the circumstances... like an Aston should be.
It’s so beautiful
Great driving
Thank you
Excellent and honest review of a beautiful looking car. Was the interior leather Forest Green or Eifel Green and what is the name of the silver paint?
Going to buy one of these!!
Kudos for shooting in this aspect ratio❤
Henry another awesome video. Is it a proper sports car and 911 competition or is it closer to D12 and it's GT? 😊❤❤
Simply the most beautiful car there is.
One 77 for me
I'm sold on the green interior.
Lazenby is seriously underrated!
This never happened to the other fellow.
The design is soooo much better than the previous model, still not sure about the rear end though, the first gen V12 was gorgeous at the rear, with that lovely descrete spoiler.
That green interior it TOPS
broh thats such a gprgeous looking car!!
I’m very thankful of Haggerty becoming the safe haven of epic automotive journalists.
Aston continues to design the best looking cars on the planet.
With THIS Aston you get the great looking front, no ugly spear/vent on the quarter panel and that STUNNING rear end...now if I could only line up the 6 numbers🤷♂️
