Big fan of these videos dude. Kinda raw - but still super clean footage. Props to your filmer! And of course, the photos are killer. Come up North and I'll show ya around.
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
What metering mode and where r u metering? Forehead, cheek? Would be great to see a vid discussing metering, metering points and focus mode. Thanks for your time.
Absolutely stunning video I love the color grading and the how beautiful all the shots looked. However when it comes to the photos why all the extra head room in the shots? It seems excessive
Really enjoyed this video. The information the background music (what is it?) also the fact you are using pentax. i am also using pentax. we are a rare breed. my work is here @backfilms - i am a manual focus shooter for life. using the legendary carl zeiss 85mm 1.4 zk lens
I’m loving your production quality on location. Gotta be Ben Hess at it again. Have you ever tried shooting with flash during golden hours like that? I shot the same scene with and without flash on medium format film (B&W) just because I was curious. Really helps preserve some of that sky detail if you meter right but it can be a pain to haul extra lights around though.
Amazing video as always Sam! Was wondering if this video was shot on the 1dx or something else? Also when you releasing some luts because god damnnn the colour was on point in this video 🤘🏻
Loved this vid! I have a question.. I'm out to buy an EF lens because right now on my Mark IV I have a Sigma 35mm 1.4 but man is it loud when it autofocuses. Which EF lens did you use here for taking this video? I saw you had a couple on your gear list.
If you look at my example of the same exact scene of a model shot with natural light vs flash outdoors and listen to my metering discussion you’ll get a solid visual idea of the challenge going on with the background. It’s possible for you to avoid a blown out sky in camera without flash but it would require either: (A) a few light mods and would be easiest with an extra hand or two or (B) if you wouldn’t mind a noisier image and retouching you could underexpose 2-3+ stops, recover shadows and add a gradient but tbh that’s a pain...simpler task the better your DSLR is at low light. Or finally (C) use a tripod, take a background shot with and without the model, each metered for the subject, then merge. Sam’s vid is an example of great results in camera with simple one man run and gun which was really the goal of the video. Edit: typo
I love your work! ❤️ But, could you speak a little slower? 😬 haha, since I’m brazilian I have a hard time in understanding you and I love watching your videos. Thank you for sharing it! 😄
Heya bro, always love your videos and the info you share from them! A friendly pointer for speaking in front of the camera, maybe try to notice how many hand gestures your doing. It can be distracting at times. :)
1:06 someone who sells workshops must know that there is a rule and begginers mistakes when trees grow from models heads. this is why this days it doesnt matter how many followers people have on instagram and think they are photographers. meh. my comment probably going to be deleted anyway.
I completely agree with you! I edited this video / shot these photos in a mad rush, so definitely not as well thought out as my normal stuff. That being said, I put a lot of hard work and care (months and months of shooting + post), to make them worthwhile for everyone
Samuel, you obviously know what you're doing, and I don't want this to sound like anything other than constructive criticism. But I've watched a couple of portrait videos of yours now and I'm of the opinion some of those shots could be better with different framing. Once I've noticed how your focus point - and therefore the subject's face - is always smack dab in the middle, I can't help but see it in all your videos. To me that's an excessive amount of head room and once you notice it, it feels like the model is drowning in the frame, especially in half body portraits or shots from further away. Nevertheless enjoying your content and grateful for it.
@@SamuelElkinsPhoto hahaha, tbh i don't care, i still watched the whole thing. There's nothing that can stop me, not even 360p. I just wished that you make longer videos like your new zealand vlog.. 😎😎😎
The photography was so good, but so was the cinematography! The entire video was well done.
Agreed 👍
The colours are incredible. Both in the video and the shots.
Can you do a tutorial on how you color grade your videos! I love the color you always do in your photography and videos!
Aidan Chin I was just gonna ask the same thing!
Yes!

Amazing video and colour grading. So Glad I got the EOS R. Keep up the great content Samuel!
Really great video work. Shout out to the videographer. Nice photos also :0)
I like how you include a lot of images rather than some videos that merely show 3 or 5. You can learn a lot more about flow posing. Thanks x
thank you! I enjoy it as well.
Vibes as always, Sam. Great photos and great video. Annnnnd, great modeling. You all rock 🤘🏾

what LUT do you use for the video?
nothing too crazy, just some simple grading - mostly in camera stuff
Samuel Elkins what camera do you use?
Where can I see the full pictures?
came out pretty beautifully : )

Alison Prejean oh 😯 I’ll check out Richard’s stuff then. Already subbed to Ben.
Thanks for the support, but the homie Richard shot this one! Super talented videographer as well! He’s done the past few vids for Sam Elkins :)

EOS R 🔥🤙
really loving it so far
Samuel Elkins me too, sold my 5D4 for it. Just bought your workshop too, great content, learning a lot from it 👌
relaxing video :)
Never clicked on a video so fast.
Why the blown out sky tho?
very bright light + DSLR's don't have nearly as much dynamic range as film or iPhone

It wouldn't if he wasn't shooting it against the light.
5:32... unbelievable
Actually, I'd appreciate tutorials on video more than on photo after this. On color grading especially.
