      Bullshit that's why his plus minus was HORRIBLE with Atlanta he learned how to play a two-way game with the devils and still put up great numbers.

      @@mr.devil9577 This. In Atlanta he hung on the blue line for half the game, but he actually played great defense in NJ. His numbers dipped but if you were watching those years, he was clearly the best player on the ice almost every night.

    I was able to watch him play for NJ and man was he exciting to see live. He was like a player in a video game vs an npc. What a stallion.

      Lets hope that he can regain some of his former scoring touch. Man, he was the most lethal scorer during his prime. What a wrist shot and one timer.

    He's one of the best snipers of all time. He can shoot from anywhere. Ovi may have the knuckle puck 1t from that one spot but Kovy can unleash it from anywhere

      I think kovy has a far better shot tbh but ovi is better at putting himself in prime scoring chances. Also washington’s entire powerplay for his whole career has revolved around ovi and has had backstrom, kuzy, carlson, and green feeding him premium passes.

    Sure as a devils fan I’m not his biggest fan but I don’t hate the guy, he did what he thought was best for him and I respect it, will be fun seeing him in the NHL again

    Still one of the best players in history, like possibly top 5 as far as skill is concerned. So strange how he just left but you watch those highlights and there’s stuff Mcdavid wouldn’t try pulling off. His skating was very unique, like the stutter step fakes he’d do and his low and wide release around defenders that caught the goalies by surprise

      Bernardo Montes de Oca He doesn’t need to be the fastest player on the ice with Kopitar and Brown. All he needs to do is get open

      Skyler Felix good point. Brown did have a turn around this past season and Kopi has sick passing skills. Will be an interesting sight to see. I want to see if those years in Russia corroded his joints

      Ascendancy he would he had 411 goals when he left, you think he would not scored at least another 200 during these 5-6 years ?

      Ovechkin already has 706 goals and he will be playing another 4-5 years so add another 200 for him which is 900 goals.

    I would drive over an hour to see Kovy and the Thrashers. Great crowds, great players, and an electric atmosphere. Why Atlanta can't keep an NHL (Remember the Flames?) team, I don't get it!! Florida has two, Nashville has one, and the Carolinas have one! We need hockey back.

    His release is so smooth. Like Stephen Curry 3pt. smooth. I enjoyed our time with him in NJ. I did know buying him would cripple us eventually but watching him with Parise and my favourite player Elias was a dream.

      He'd have approx 600-630 goals now if he had not played in KHL during a 5 years period.

      Ovechkin is going to hit 900 and hasn’t slowed down. Kovalchuk was slowing down before he left on New Jersey. Averaging 30 goals a season. He would of never of passed ovechkin ever.

    Mixed emotions watching this. I’m a Devils fan, so you may be thinking “Oh, he’s salty for obvious reasons”, but it’s not just that. I loved this player as a little kid during his Atlanta days from playing NHL 08. When he became a Devil, that want to emulate his game grew larger. He broke my heart when I was 13, so that’s where the frustration with him starts

    Would’ve been great if the Atlanta Thrashers got to draft like the Vegas Golden Knights. They might’ve still had a team. Maybe would have won a Cup. They had to great centre pieces in Kovalchuk and Heatley.

    Sportsnet needs better editors. Every single audio clip had a constant hum, and it feels like they didn't even take that into consideration. It just sounds sloppy.
