As a NY Rangers fan, that rarely gets to watch LA Kings games, I'm just curious as to why it didn't work for him out in LA? Because to me he looks like he still has it, like 3rd line/ 2nd line here & there & 2pp unit ability still, & still had those nasty hands & laser shot! So why didn't it work? Was it him, his attitude & work ethic or was it the direction of the team or what?
Kovalchuk was like a minus 17 by the end of November and the organization knew pretty quickly it wouldn’t work. If you can’t battle in your own zone then you can’t play for LA. Gaborik was super responsible, Ilya was a mess.
@@mickhoddy Wrong. He was a top 5 point producer for the Kings until Willie came in and decided to take him out of the top 6 and off the PP and dropped him to the bottom 6. His reason was defense, which was not why they brought him in. If you watched he was trying to do to much because they took all the talent away from him. He was brought in to produce, which is what he was doing until the Kings basically decided to tank.
@@biggbluh He was top 5 on the Kings in points before Willie demoted him. He was also playing great In Montreal before being traded to Washington, where he was basically not needed and was just brought in for the playoffs. They also only played him on the 4th which isn’t giving him a chance.
@@btgkg9639 negatiiiiiive. Like i said .. he was a -17. Being top 5 in points on LA means squat. I watched. And no the Kings didn’t tank. Not too sure how hard you really follow this team

Avs should get him especially at league minimum. Play him on 3rd line and 2nd PP

I wonder this myself. Set kovy up high slot on the pp and he launches rockets at the net. Hopefully Montreal works out for him
