Thank you for the honest and fair review - I have a Mazda3 X engine and its a unbelievable machine. Day to day you don't need a turbo, the way this car drives is unlike anything I have driven before, high or low end. You can really work the engine and rev high and the performance is cracking. I have the AWD EU/UK version with the 180ps and I see consistent 44-46mpg and then when I take it on a longer trip, I will get 52-55 mpg depending on my cruising speed. I really don't think I will go anywhere else now for my cars and have converted a lot of family and friends into Mazda! Such a great car! Thank you! :)
Beautiful vehicle, I worked for years at a Mazda dealership, and since 2012 Mazda styling and quality have jumped unbelievably forward and still competitive pricing.

Bought a 2019 2.0 GT Sport version a few a couple of months ago in the same silver colour .It's my favourite car I've owned, a joy to drive being comfortable and just sporty enough to make it fun . Also the Bose stereo sounds so good . No problem with the dial instead of the touch screen , once you get used to it , its definitely safer than using the touch screen whilst driving . Also something not mentioned here is the heads up display on the windscreen that also makes keeping an eye on your speed ( which we all need to do nowadays ) much more convenient.
Had my Mazda 3 for two months, GT Sport in Polymetal Grey and it's stunning, I smile everytime I get in it. Is that the G? because if it's the E skyactiv x you should be getting better consumption than that, I can't get mine under 48mpg and get well into high 50s low 60s on a decent 30 mile or so run.
Hi, very nice review, and very nice car ! Liked and subscribed. As a previous BMW owner, I can testify that the non-touchscreen infotainment system with the controller in the center console is much preferred (much better than a touchscreen) for both convenience and safety while driving. You don't need to take your eyes off the road as much as with a touchscreen. It is also quicker and more precise when you want to scroll through your songs and pick one to play, or generally when selecting items from a menu. At most, it may take a week to get used to, but once you do, you'll love it.
I love my 2021 Mazda 3 Sport (hatchback), that’s what it’s called in Canada, I have the base model with manual transmission. Truly enjoyed your video:))
Nice review Tish. If I was in the market for a normal hatchback rather than the hot hatch I daily drive, I would buy a Mazda 3 simply because, as you pointed out, the build quality and finish is right up there with the best. The larger 6 is very good too, Mazda is really excelling at building quality vehicles these days.
I have my Mazda 3 a week now. It is an absolute belter. The engine is the G type but I have a great pick up when I need it. The interior really is fantastic and the tech top notch. Coming from a Mazda 6 from 2010 it will still take me a while to get used to it but so far it is a beautiful car to drive. This is a very good review.
Good review. I have a Mazda 3, 2.0L, 150 hp atmospheric petrol in this GT equipment package (in the EU it is called a little differently) for a year and a half. When I was buying a new car I was looking at a Mazda 3, a Mercedes A-Class and a BMW 1 Series. As for the quality of workmanship and materials in the interior, Mazda is at the level of BMW and above Mercedes. The engine has enough power, driving in corners is good as in a sports car, and manual gearbox is simply the best in this category and at a price of up to 30,000 EUR. All in all, I can’t be happier than I am. With this model, Mazda has shown that it has become a premium brand.
Great video as always, Tish! The Mazda 3 is my personal favorite car in this segment. It’s almost a premium car without the premium price tag. We don’t get the Skyactiv X in the US, but we do get an available 2.5 Skyactiv G turbo with 250hp and AWD. I drove one and boy, was I impressed. The combination of luxury, performance, nimble handling, that kickass Bose system and the styling really makes it the full package!!
I own one of these and to be honest, I don’t see the lack of a touchscreen as a negative, because the control wheel in the centre console works just fine and you soon get used to it. No touchy = no potential for marks and scratches...

I bought a 2019 Mazda 3 Skyactiv X and I'd echo the comments on quality. Top notch and just a lovely place to be, I love that they left a number of controls to be operated by knobs and buttons which are quicker and more intuitive to use that a touch screen. The stereo is also one of the best standard units I've encountered. The problem I had with it was the drive was nothing like as good as the previous generation model - just not as involving or fun. So much so that I chopped it back in and bough a slightly older one which is an inferior car in many ways but more the drivers car.
In the United States and Canada, you can get the Mazda 3 with a 2.5 litre turbo 4cyl with 250 horsepower (provided you fill with premium fuel), with AWD mated to a 6AT. It does 0-62 in 5.8 seconds, making it 0.2 seconds quicker than a Focus ST MK4 automatic.
Love the Mazda 3 hatchback! I bought mine with the intent to one day “upgrade”, but when the time comes I’ll probably just get a newer one. It’s not a race car, but it looks great, fun to drive, and has been very reliable for all the road trips it takes me on. Enjoyable review. Cheers.
I've had the Mazda 2 for nearly 4 years, always wanted the Mazda 3 as it's such a beautiful looking car. I'm finally picking up a 2022 Mazda 3 GT sport Skyactive X in a few days and I CANNOT WAIT! Took it for a test drive and wow, it's such a superb car. It's sporty and cool looking but at the same time very elegant and mature. Can't see myself ever leaving Mazda, as they really are producing some amazing cars
Love my 2020 Mazda 3 skyactiv X GT Sport Tech. I notice you said you are getting around mid 40's mpg? This changes as the engine is very tight from new so it takes a few thousand miles to "break in" and then you get improvements during urban driving and on Motorway journeys I'm returning 53mpg averages with ease. If you are very economical with the throttle I've seen this go close to 60mpg on occasions. Which is fantastic from a petrol engine. Unfortunately with all the modern tech onboard the car can suffer from the occasional spurious software related bug. For example the head up display with speed sign recognition on Motorways can suddenly decide to display 30 or 40mph in a 70 zone when there are no speed restrictions or history of speed restrictions in the area? I've had a so far untraceable glitch with the car alarm sounding for no reason when opening the tailgate yet this happens so randomly that it cant be picked up when looked at by a dealer. And occasionally the front camera operated Collison detection system will false positive with an audible/visual warning on the dash. ( Although a recall during 2020 readjusted the sensitivity of this system). These though are relatively minor irritations which I think over time will be eradicated through software updates.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Funny you say that but it definitely felt that the fuel was moving slower than the MPG was suggesting... if that makes sense haha!

I own a Mazda 626 Sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, 1990 model ... bought brand new in Melbourne, Australia as a gift from my father for my 18th birthday. He paid $ 32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! It's now 32 years old, has done 500,000 kilometres (310,000 miles), drives like a dream .... and l continue to drive it daily. Has never failed me. Unbelievable car. I cannot part with it. My first and so far, only car ...!! It still looks like new and has always been outside for its entire 32 years, so far. People cant believe it! 6 weeks ago, l purchased the 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan (also the G20 Evolve!) in the Sonic Silver Metallic colour. I am expected to taking delivery of it here in Melbourne, at the end of July. I am keeping my 1990 Mazda 626 and will never part with it and intend to drive both cars.
Beautiful car especially in that new platinum quartz colour. Recently had the key to its sister, the CX-30 skyactiv X when my Mazda 2 was in for a service. I was impressed.
Once again another great review Tish. This car has not really been on my radar until this review. One maybe for a test drive when the time comes to change, I'm still with the SUV crowd at the moment due to an old back injury so we will have to see.
So glad you made the point of getting use to it and living with it…..the car is a grower!!!….I’ve had my Mazda3 for a year now and love it. The E-skyactiv G is getting a constant 50mpg. It’s a comfortable place to be and I think is far better than VW in terms of all those scratchy plastics VW has made the “norm”
I had to give my Mazda 3 back when I left the UK in 2020, but I’m coming back this year and this review makes me think the obvious thing to do is get another one. I think the Skyactive X is the engine to go for. I thumbed up and I’m all subscribed. Love your approach!
Had a 2020 GT Sport Tech e-SkyActiv-X until recently, and it was a fantastic car that I found hard to part with. It did struggle with power at lower revs but once you hit 2.5-3k it jumps into life. I found the biting point on mine the hardest to deal with, it was on a knife edge and with such a quiet engine stalling was a constant worry. Fuel wise it actually did really well, my motorway commute in it was 80miles a day and if you can bear 65mph, the return was according to the car was 48mpg. I could get 410ish miles out of 3/4 tank before needing to fill up every week.
The e skyactiv x came out in April 2021 I had one of the first in the country, are you sure yours was not the previous skyactiv x? the 2019 to 2020 model, the e is more powerful quieter and more economical, I easily get high 50s on a motorway run and have seen as much as 62mpg when being careful on the motorway say 60 to 65mph for 50 miles, I have seen a range of 560 miles once after filling up after a run to Lyme Regis (78 miles).
ive had my 3 since September and its been a great car to drive overall, the quality is great and its very comfortable and quiet to drive. The only thing i think is a downside is the big blind spot and the mpg's ive been getting havent been that amazing overall. However that said ive loved every moment in the car
i have the sport lux auto in soul red crystal beautiful car and loving every minute i drive her , there is a blindspot but you get used to it and not a problem now. Mazda have certainly broke the mould and produced an amazing sporty looking car.
The Mazda 3 rocks! I've owned one for three years and am just about to get another in the colour shown. The criticisms raised are valid but, overall, it's a really lovely car that bursting with gadgets supplied as standard. Love it!
Fantastic! Something that isn't an SUV! Nice to see. Now maybe we'll also get some more non-electric cars too.... I've never been a fan of the Mazda range, but they've done a lot with this new '3' - it seems like a very good all round car.
I love my 3 e skyactiv g....had VW group cars for years, but the quality has taken a dive and the fact that everything you control is either touchscreen or slidey buttons...yuck! I get mid high 40s day in day out, and mid 50s on a long run. Did miss a turbo to begin with but now I prefer it without. Overall, a stunning car!
I’m trying to decide on a colour right now and I’m so torn between the platinum quartz and machine grey. I think the grey shows off the car’s contours a little better but after driving a grey car for the last ten years I really need a change 🙈😅
Great review Tish, love the looks of the 3 but it's not practical for adults in the rear seats, I have a name for cars that are cramped and dark in the back and that's a Coffin Cabin, such a shame was so disappointed with its lack of room. Keep up the good work!
i do disagree ever so slightly, I can sit behind myself and I am 6ft, my FIL is 5'10 and my MIL is 5'8 and they are very comfy in the back. Yes it could be better but very easy to live with. :)
I live in the Republic of Ireland , the government/ degenerate greens have waged a war on petrol and diesel , VRT vehicle registration tax has gone through the roof even selecting a bigger alloy wheel could /will push you into a higher tax bracket ! . I have previously owned two mk7 golf R but when the dealer called to say a new mk8 R base car was nearly 80k euros I walked away . I’m not sure what the future is for cars esp the hatch’s which I love . You guys in the UK have it a bit better than us regards car purchases and pricing , but I’m sure you pay somewhere else !! Great review very professional keeping going . If you get your hands on a new BMW 240i G42 that would be nice.
I've had 4 Mazda 3 hatchbacks since 2011 and wouldn't choose any other. Build quality and reliability are second to none. My GT Sport Tech has everything you can want in a car. Sadly, I have trade it for a Mazda CX5 soon following the arrival of two grandchildren.
I currently own a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch and love it, but if I were going for a naturally aspirated engine it would still be the Mazda 3. Of course I live in the US where the top trims come with a 2.5l 4cyl that makes 186hp/186tq, both figures are well above other naturally aspirated engines in the same class. Of course I opt for fwd on a naturally aspirated Mazda 3, my turbo is AWD which works great, but would add a bit too much weight for the NA engine. (And I live in the south where AWD is rarely a helpful feature)
Ended up buying a 2021 Mazda 3 saloon with the skyactiv x engine, had it for just over a month and its never failed to make me smile, your right about learning how to drive it, it feels sluggish but once you get used to it, it's pretty quick 🙂
What amazing timing. I just bought a Volvo S90 D5 inscription which I'm already thinking was an unnecessarily large car for my needs. Thinking of flipping it for a profit then it's either a Corolla or the Mazda 3. I'm seriously thinking about the 3 in skyactive x auto but I'm concerned I have enough power to overtake 🤔
Yes it certainly got the power.. I am changing it for a New 22 plate in June. even thou my car will only be 18months old the hybrid is a must good luck in yr choice but keep yr eye on the new civic a hybrid to being launched in the UK bout October time ..
I would go for the 3 everyday all day! Overtaking is fine! They love to rev and out gear change most things because I can rev right up to 6200rpm without loss of power! :)
Fascinating review for me as I bought one about 6 weeks ago...in the same colour that I call champagne. I went for the mid level trim that includes some extras but with the skyactive g engine and the 16 inch wheels. I think the X engine is bit hyped. I just checked mine and it shows 5.9l litres or 48mpg. Remember too Tish if you did get the auto fuel consumption suffers in this model. You know you try and see the best in your reviews but if you really like a car there is a glint your eye which the 3 gets from you.!! Personally I really love the Maxda . Only 2,500 miles yet so early days.
3:08 usually its kids in the back and with them playing on tablets or smartphone they actually need it dark so its a win win... Shame about the sunroof not being bigger like on French cars.
I have the previous mazda 3 sp25, and it is a good car. I like this one but the big turn off is they have removed the touch screen, whereas my current one has both a touchscreen and dial . IMO they should have just kept the touchscreen and left it up to the customer to use it or not. ALso that screen looks narrower and smaller than the old infotainment screen. Almost every new car has a touchscreen and most are larger. I was going to get a CX5 but that seems to be also missing it, so may have to go for the RAV4 instead. I woudl have hoped Mazda would have brought out a refreshed model this year with new screens.
Honda civic 1ltr petrol VTEC turbo ex spec and Vauxhall Corsa 1.2turbo petrol 130bhp ultimate spec, please review as I'm thinking buying either of these cars. Cheers Rob from Ireland.
Sadly, there are few hatchback offerings in the US; they do not sell well here. The exceptions are the VW GTI (Golf is discontinued in the US) and the Mazda 3 that you review here. (Subaru has dropped its WRX hot hatch and only sells a sedan here now). I generally regard these as quick little personal daily driver cars that handle well, and not well adapted for rear passengers, albeit that the VW GTI is spacious in the rear. Mazda seems to be aiming for a more premium trim than its main competitors, and I do wish it luck with that strategy. I like the Mazda SkyActiv engine idea. I wonder how it will perform in actual driving conditions. Nice review as always. Yes, bigger wheels look nice but the ride often suffers unless there are a lot of suspension mods. And Mazda has "decontented" it in the US (cost/price issues) by removing the independent rear suspension.
Only 42mpg? my lowest average is around 48mpg and that's for shorter trips, on a run I frequently see over 60mpg so I reckon you forgot you weren't driving your Abarth lol.
You claim 351 litres of boot space. The Aussie Mazda website claims has 295 litres and I can't see that they'd be any different. 380-400L should be the minimum for a practical hatch. Sedan has 444L and is more fuel efficient due to it's aerodynamics. Kia Cerato hatchback is far more practical WRT rear occupant space and luggage capacity (428L) and is the vehicle I chose.
The car she reviewed didn't have a spare wheel only a tyre repair kit. This is why the boot is larger. Personally I would prefer to have a smaller boot and a spare, unfortunately only a space saver though.
@@Bear-wj1mc I have a tyre repair kit in my ND Miata and it is frustrating given the vast distance and isolation of rural Australia. It's unforgivable in a practical hatch such as the Mazda 3. I hope there is an EV engineered with a space saver spare in future.
@@MrBenHaynes The Mazda 3 does have a Space saver tyre in Australia, hence the smaller boot. I'm not sure whether I was clear in my previous post ? But I really think a Full size spare should be provided, especially here in Australia I've just ordered a Mazda 3 Astina Hatch today actually. I love the Mazda MX5 such great drive !

Good lord, this Mazda looks so good. I remember when I saw it first at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018.
If only we got the 2.5 turbo in this country.. 😢 looks stunning and the interior looks fantastic.
I never use the touch screen in my 2018 Mazda3 Sport (hatchback). The knob seems to work fine.
Exactly, I wasn't sure at the start of the week but I liked it more and more towards the end.
I had to give my Mazda 3 back when I left the UK in 2020, but I’m coming back this year and this review makes me think the obvious thing to do is get another one. I think the Skyactive X is the engine to go for. I thumbed up and I’m all subscribed. Love your approach!
I was so won over by this car Peter! Glad you liked the video!
Turbo power for immediate delivery is tempting but a naturally aspirated like this that you can really ring out is pretty fun
Nice car. I like it
Thanks for sharing!
first of all i'd like to say a massive thank you to you for posting this video/ sharing it with us.I have heard the mazda 3 is a great car.
Yes I really struggled with the biting point until I got used to it!
ive had my 3 since September and its been a great car to drive overall, the quality is great and its very comfortable and quiet to drive. The only thing i think is a downside is the big blind spot and the mpg's ive been getting havent been that amazing overall. However that said ive loved every moment in the car
Great review! I love driving a naturally aspirated engine. So much more fun.
i have the sport lux auto in soul red crystal beautiful car and loving every minute i drive her , there is a blindspot but you get used to it and not a problem now. Mazda have certainly broke the mould and produced an amazing sporty looking car.
I have my 186 cv 2.0 exclusive and it's incredible for the beauty and comfort!!!
Glad you’re enjoying your car!
It's that time in my life where I'm looking for my first car and this has always been up there on my list
What else is on there? 😁

Nice review again Tish.
I like Mazdas, I think the lack of rear space is the deal breaker for me.
Totally agree
My 2021 3 turbo premium is a rattle trap. The interior seems nice at first but rattles started around 3k miles and have only gotten worse.
You can knock the scroll wheel left, right, up and down like a joystick to navigate the menus easier btw
Beautiful, Tish!! Many thanks again. Blessings.
great review, i want a MAzda 3 22. had one as a higher car and i really didn't want to hand it back. made by engineers not marketeers.
IMO it’s easily the best looking small hatch, pity we don’t get the turbo here as they do in some markets. Nice review 😎
Yer that’s true, although I’m not sure what the Turbo is like on fuel consumption?
@@AutoSocialUK With regular fuel, the Mazda3 Turbo hatchback gets 27.6mpg in the city and 37.2 on the highway.
Love my 2020 Skyactiv-X
Very detailed review, thank you 😊
Isn't this a supercharged engine as opposed to a turbo?
Because there is a continuous boost on the x but not the g?
Truly lovely design ❣️🔥
I love my 3 e skyactiv g....had VW group cars for years, but the quality has taken a dive and the fact that everything you control is either touchscreen or slidey buttons...yuck! I get mid high 40s day in day out, and mid 50s on a long run. Did miss a turbo to begin with but now I prefer it without. Overall, a stunning car!
Yes I definitely think VW group have turned a lot of people off with their terrible new touch screens!
Great video really enjoyed it 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Does it too big for 4”11 height in love with this mazda 3
I guess it completely depends what you compare it too. Better than some, not as good as others!
If adults in the rear don't like it they should get their own cars, do you buy a car for you or them?
Damn!!!The car is totally on 🔥🔥🔥Love💝💝💝 from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 🇧🇩 🇧🇩 my sister
Thank you for watching
I'm looking foward to your Video Reviews of the New Peugeot 308 and New Vauxhall Astra
29k is a steal for that car. I just paid 17k for a used 2019 GT Sport (non-X) version with 12k miles
Brilliant review 👏 no bullshit just telling it like it is. What was refinement like seemed very quiet in the cabin .Can you review i30 or kia ceed.
Great video. I love the interior on these. Dash is very porsche 944 like in some ways
I really hope to buy a 3 sedan skyactive x this year
LOVE THIS CAR
Another great review from Natisha Chatten.
Thank you kindly!
Sophisticated and well presented. Great to see not everyone wears a smartwatch.
Thank you for watching Neill
I've had 4 Mazda 3 hatchbacks since 2011 and wouldn't choose any other. Build quality and reliability are second to none. My GT Sport Tech has everything you can want in a car. Sadly, I have trade it for a Mazda CX5 soon following the arrival of two grandchildren.
Good review tish 😊
Glad you liked it
I owe a 2.0 2021 mazda 3 hatchback 180 hp manual transmission, i love it!
Very nice!
Such a nice review:-)
I currently own a 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch and love it, but if I were going for a naturally aspirated engine it would still be the Mazda 3. Of course I live in the US where the top trims come with a 2.5l 4cyl that makes 186hp/186tq, both figures are well above other naturally aspirated engines in the same class. Of course I opt for fwd on a naturally aspirated Mazda 3, my turbo is AWD which works great, but would add a bit too much weight for the NA engine. (And I live in the south where AWD is rarely a helpful feature)
mazda 3 rules. oh and i have just ordered one🤗
lol, first time i hear a short throw manual transmission as being a negative
It quicker car then 1tr VTEC turbo Honda civic X? Rob from Galway Ireland
Well simplified Tish, so far so good😀😀
Thanks for the video, very informative, still unsure what to go for but opting more for the active x engine as I do motorways 👌
You’re very welcome. Thank you for watching Joe
Go for a Corrola GR sport Trust me I test drove them both mpg is far superior on the Toyota 2.0 litre amongst other benefits with the Toyota.
@@peterharris4589 thanks did you find it quick and ok for overtaking? Was it the 2l you got?
5.9 litres with what average speed?
Nice review. I’m considering a Mazda 3 to compliment our MX5. I’m debating between this new model or a late previous generation version.
3:08 usually its kids in the back and with them playing on tablets or smartphone they actually need it dark so its a win win... Shame about the sunroof not being bigger like on French cars.
What is the fuel economy city/highway/combined for the E Skyactiv X?
I couldn’t find any details for city and highway, but it’s 44 US MPG combined.

Great review, it may not have a turbo but it does have a super charger instead.
Interior feels very premium
Honda civic 1ltr petrol VTEC turbo ex spec and Vauxhall Corsa 1.2turbo petrol 130bhp ultimate spec, please review as I'm thinking buying either of these cars. Cheers Rob from Ireland.
Hi Rob - I’ll see what I can do!
Good videos, can you review a Swift Sport 😃x
Beautiful acsent 👍
5:50 so if it has a Satnav its targetting an older audience? Pretty bizarre comment.
But anyway, otherwise a good review for a v good car.
Female logic 😂
One of the cool things about it is that you can get it with AWD
Very true, rare in this class
Great review of a fairly rare car 👍
Thank you, I always find that after I’ve done a review I start seeing whatever car it is popping up everywhere so let’s see! 😅
Looks fantastic
ive had the Mazda 3 mark 2 and mark 3 and I miss them both :(
Only 42mpg? my lowest average is around 48mpg and that's for shorter trips, on a run I frequently see over 60mpg so I reckon you forgot you weren't driving your Abarth lol.
Love it, gorgeous car
No touchscreen put me off even looking at this car which is a shame. One lives near me and it’s a stunning car in the blue
Yes I agree, you do get used to it but it's annoying when using certain functions.
Nice steering wheel. Wish it was only 2 spoke instead of 3.
Better than any SUV
Mazda are drivers cars you have to learn to drive again. Once you get it back normally aspirated engines are great fun to drive. 👍
Looks good 👍 thanks
It’s a smart little car!
I’m not sure why but I’ve double checked and the UK spec car is definitely 351 litres.
But I really think a Full size spare should be provided, especially here in Australia
I've just ordered a Mazda 3 Astina Hatch today actually.
I love the Mazda MX5 such great drive !
@@Bear-wj1mc Enjoy your Astina hatch (manual?).
Should be a cracking drive and relatively practical as an occasional use four seater.
