Interesting point about the protagonists being horsemen of the apocalypse, I hadn't considered that side of it before. I saw the Seeds as the horsemen.
John as Famine, as he's the one who rolls into the valley to take over all the farms and supplies, organises the grain storage silos, and literally cuts the flesh off people's bodies. Also dark hair (Famine rides the black horse.)
Faith as Pestilence, as she's the one drugging people and poisoning their minds. Also the white dress (Pestilence's white horse)
Jacob as War, as he's the ex-soldier, trains the cultists, and has red hair (war's red horse)
Joseph as Death, the mastermind, the final boss, the leader of Eden's Gate and the one you cannot ultimately defeat.
But it's cool to think that both sides have their own versions of who the horsemen are. Two opposing teams of horsemen, I guess. And with Joseph and Rook facing off finally, I suppose it's Death vs. Death.
(also Joesph's actor is called Greg Bryk, not Gary Byrk, btw, he was incredible in this role so just thought I'd mention! Great video)

I personally fell in love with this game the day I played it. I still go back from time to time just to see the landscapes and listen to the music. I will forever hold FC5 in my top tier list for games to play when you want to pass the time and enjoy yourself. Here's a quick list of pros and cons:
    Pros-
    1. Great setting. Montana is a beautiful speck of land with luscious landscapes. I've been there a few times and its absolutely breathtaking!
    2. The music in this game is absolutely second to none. If there were a real life radio station playing soothing country and bluegrass music like this, I would have that baby on all the time.
    3. The missions are pretty enjoyable (especially the Hours Of Darkness DLC since I am a Vietnam War history buff).
    4. The setup of the villains is very well done.
    5. The silent protagonist is actually.... not terrible. I enjoy how you find yourself just answering some questions in your head when the characters look into your eyes and say something.
    6. No predatory aquatic life. Montana has predatory life but the only thing you'll find in the water that may be harmful is sudden temperature changes and maybe some snakes or a very large fish that thinks your bright colored swimwear is a lure or a delicious fish.
    Cons-
    1. I will be the first to admit that I hate how you progress and the game is like "oh hey, since you're enjoying yourself too much *yank!* and then you have to do some side quest crap for a half hour or so.
    2. As a gun enthusiast (again, history buff. I have lots of time both around and behind historical firearms) I absolutely hate how every time you pull out the LMG/HMG, every round has a strike primer, indicating that either there was a shitty reload or the bullets were bad and they somehow work the second time (minor thing, but dear Lord it gets on my nerves).
    3. Every time you bring a gun up to aim, it rattles. I've never heard a 1911 rattle when I brought it from the holster to aim and fire. I've never heard an AK or an M16 do it either. I've also never heard a shotgun have such a..... "unique" report.
    4. The suppressors in game are.... well, they're bullshit. Both suppressor types, especially the Osprey (squared edges at the bottom) have vent holes suuuuper close to where it attatches the muzzle. This would make for the loudest suppressor ever.
    6. The P226 and the M9 both have a 15+1 round capacity and I know Ubi probably took them down to 10 (or 12 extended) for balancing but maaaaan it bugs the hell out of me!
    7. I miss the FC2 days of having easy loadouts (I remedied this in my FC5 playthrough by starting a new character with only a primary and secondary weapon class) but having your bladed weapon as a primary or having the IEDs is pretty fun. Little things I know but I miss it.
    8. Some of the companions are completely just bland and useless. Boomer and Grace make an absolutely amazing pair. Cheeseburger and Hurk make for a hell of a good time. But Nick and Adele are just pretty damn bland. I like Nick and he's a great companion when you can glitch the game just right and he runs on the ground with you, but in a plane its just..... ok, I suppose.
All in all, FC5 is personally my favorite and like it or not, we can all agree the acting and the score in this game, as well as the landscape, are all in the A tier.

I agree with a lot of your points (I did always wonder why the LMGs sounded odd to me). There is few other games where I have felt fully immersed at times like F5. Nothing beats the feeling, treking on foot high in the whitetail national park, circling round peggies and taking out dangerous animals with bow in hand

    • @queensyny2663

The gun rattle issue could be loose magazine fit, or for the ARC-L, the sling attachment it has hanging off the front. I can pick up any one of my AR’s and hold it by the grip and it’ll rattle for some reason. That wasn’t to immersion breaking.
I live in Montana (born and raised) and so I love FC5. It’s not totally faithful to MT based on my experience but I adore it nonetheless. I personally have never heard so many generational residents with southern accents. Why Nick or Mary sound like they came from Kentucky, I don’t know.
I haven’t really stopped playing it since it came out (second is Modern Warfare when my wife goes to work haha). It’s my go-to when I get off work. I’ve “finished” the game (confronted the father) about five times but I’ve beaten all the siblings probably 40. When I beat the last sibling I start a new campaign.

Although I loved the game, I hated Jacob's brainwashing sections, because I figured the ending out beforehand, and the game did not reward me for it.
The original purpose of the brainwashing was to get you into this routine of killing and not realise that you are killing Wolve's Den members and Eli.
Because I figured it out, I did not kill Eli. I stood in front of him and waited for the timer to countdown the last 1 minute and 30 seconds. I did not fall to the temptation and my reward for it was the fact that Ubisoft did not like it and restarted the whole section.
I wanted to irritate the game even more and not shoot Eli again, but - I kid you not - Eli died by himself while I was reaching him, not giving me this choice at all.
I loved the game, but this part irritates me to impossibility, because it was linear and does not account any other possibility other than one.

The second is the empathetic villain, they've got a point, you can see that they've been pushed, drawn, etc to this action, but are going about it the wrong way, or have perverted it way beyond the original intent. The third is the sympathetic villain society, upbringing, SOMETHING broke them and made them do what they do. You feel for them, but they're still the villian and are doing something evil that warrants a protagonist to jump in and stop them.

But I will not deny that fact that is sometimes is just fun to run around and blow shit up. I guess that's why I like the Just Cause games.
I did hear a theory once about the other ending of the game, the one where the nuke goes off. That theory is: There is no nuke and New Dawn isn't canon. What we saw as the Nuke was a result of the Bliss and that we couldn't return to the "Real world" after everything we did during the game and that regardless of what we do we still have a bit of Joseph with us.

FC5 has become my favorite installment of the series. I hated it during my first, unfinished play through though. Because I chose to enter Faith’s territory first, I found myself destroying Joseph’s statue very early on and it killed the pacing. After restarting and taking the suggested path, I had a much better experience. It just goes to show that just because you can make a game non-linear, doesn’t always make it better. There are several games that I’ve been soured to initially because of the choices offered to me; compelling story is difficult when it has to work out amidst player decisions that can be taken in any number of combinations.

Everything. I just find myself having the most fun in 5 and 6. Idk why. Mainly 5.

Because it ussaly just results in more conflict in real life. And if they did it today, they aren't going to be brave enough to condem the summer riots in 2019 and just probably condem the riot on capital hill.

I love the protagonist being silent. As someone who talks, wether there's someone to listen or not, it's a nice change up from most games. It allows you to put your OWN voice in the character. It lets you immerse yourself further into the game, and talk from the characters point of view, without being interrupted by a voice actor. That's just my side of things though and I see why people may not like it as much

Far Cry 5 had the best prologue of any of them. The build up as you fly through Hope county, the menace of the cultists as you go arrest their prophet in his own compound with 3 guys, and then that escape sequence.
It was the most engaging lead up to title screen. I actually died the 1st time because I got lost in the woods and then didn't realize they just keep coming at the cabin before the car chase sequence. And then the car chase... absolute mayhem. It was really good at making the player feel anxious and uncertain.
Comparatively the other Far Cry tutorial intros are very on-rails and I never worried about getting through them.
It also had the best first third of the game, where you are underpowered with junk guns always looking over your shoulder and you have to pick your battles and often run away.
And I think it did the best job with the eventual "am I actually the bad guy?" crisis.
The mind-fxcks are great too. The Only You missions where you end up smoking your buddy in a Manchurian Candidate rampage... I didn't even realize the last run, all the enemies weren't a poof of smoke when I shot them. Didn't realize it was the White Tail bunker. And then the ending...
Far Cry 5 is way underrated. Its the best one in my mind. The writing and the game play are both top notch.
And hot take... Far Cry 3 is lame. Vaas doesn't make it a good game, he was just an interesting charachter in a pretty redundant game.
I can spend hours giving evidence to support those statements and enjoy talking about it so by all means, lets have a discussion.

23:47 hey the only death seen in the game where we don't get to see a body afterwards....
I took that is that as we didn't kill Rachel we killed faith let me explain...
Joseph conditioned Rachel into faith, and the only way the sequences with her work is if she can somehow telepathically (either by mythological abilities brought on by the Bliss, or by some machine in her bunker) control the illusions people get in Henebane valley...
Some people have Expressed the theory that we don't kill Faith because we don't see a body but I'm saying it goes deeper than that...
We we're never shooting Faith because she was never physically there, PHYSICALLY she was safe in her bunker... But we clearly did something to her because we don't see her again and it's not like Faith to just leave like that... UNLESS, unless we killed faith i.e. the person she had become, And not Rachel i.e. her body and true self...
Just as the sheriff restored us to reason we restored Rachel to reason... Perhaps even at the cost of her memories, maybe she has amnesia post that fight!

I sw a Reddit post that points out that the Deputy is actually the Lamb of God casting a judgement upon Joseph Seed and his cult. Jesus would rather teach and attempt to bring peace among those that are lost but when acting as the Lamb of God, he judges harshly and brings down the Wrath of God in full force without empathy or remorse. Joseph and his cult are the sinners that we can judge by choosing to cuff him at the beginning. Walk away and we've made the judgement that the Seed Family and the Peggies are not sinners and thus are not to be harmed by the lamb or wrath of God. Make the judgement call that they are sinners, cuff him, and in doing so break the first seal that brings forth the apocalypse and the war between Jesus and his Followers vs Joseph and his Sinners, ie the game we just played

I think the whole idea of us being ‘conditioned’ into killing Eli is a bit flawed when you remember that the game doesn’t give us an option not to do it. If you get to the end of the final conditioning mission and you do kill him, fine, but you need to have the option to wait and take the non-violent path. Most ppl will have killed Eli just because that’s the mission objective, the only thing that’ll get them out of this restrictive, unskippable level and back into the open world. Also, the fact that it’s 1) very dark and there’s not much to distinguish Eli’s model from the others you kill and 2) I doubt many ppl really cared about or even recognised Eli given the shitty characterisation in this game, then I don’t think that the whole conditioning thing really worked on the player. But then what do I know, maybe I’ve been conditioned to think that?
Great video as always though! I didn’t love the game either so it was nice to see some positives to it!

This was one of the games that I actually wanted to take the time and explore everything the game and the world had to offer. Although we are trapped by a mountain range it still felt like there was always something new to discover. I forget exactly what I was going to collect, but I remember hiking up a mountain in the game to either hunt an animal or get a collectible when I heard some singing. It was one of the people rebelling against the cult by a campfire singing with some other people sitting by the fire. I decided to stop and watch and listen to the song. I thought it was a great moment because it took me away from the craziness and destruction that the cult and I the player had been doing. Some of the random NPCs in the game have some memorable moments like the fisherman telling you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and to forget all the craziness in the world. This was the first Far Cry game I played and I thought it was a really good game.

Something I though of during my 7th or so rewatch of this video:
During the secret ending, Whitehorse tells the marshal "You put those cuffs on [Joseph] none of us walk out of here alive".
In a way, this is true. By placing the cuffs on Joseph, you start the game which inevitably has 2 endings, both of which leaves all of the characters from the helicopter dead, either by nuclear fire or by being killed by Rook.

I used to always shy away from the fact that in previous Far Cry games the player could control the difficulty of the overall gameplay by doing more side stuff and building up some skill trees if you were breezing through missions and vice versa. In this one, you have to test every gun, explore plenty, and overall try everything the game has to offer in order to get the skill points needed. But in a way it actually makes alot of sense. If you want to try to go through the entire game with only a pistol you're not gaining EXPERIENCE in other mediums to be able to master skills. If you juggle different guns, and hunting, and recruit every gun for hire it makes sense that you as a character are able to expand your skill set. Dan Hay really reinvented the wheel for this go around, and I really think he made something unique

One thing about that classical conditioning. As a person who has thought about mind control and manipulation to death due to a form of paranoia, I foresaw that you were being conditioned. As a result I realized immediately on the fourth run that I was killing white tails, the models changed, they don't turn to ash, and I knew the final corner, where you have to take a sharp right turn into enemy fire, generally at this point with an LMG which fires slowly if you don't hold down the trigger. I knew what they wanted me to do, so I didn't. I didn't shoot Eli because I was clever enough to put the pieces together and discovered my biggest gripe with the game: Your choices don't matter even though we pretend they do.

I didn’t actually fall for Jacob’s trap the first time I experienced the game. I actually didn’t shoot Eli and let the timer run out instead which just put me back to a checkpoint which was disappointing, but understandable.
I was suspicious from the start, mainly because I knew what Classical Conditioning is and how the cult would likely use it, and Pratt afterwards breaking us out only confirmed my suspicion. To me it wasn’t subtle, but I still loved what it did for others and what it tried to do for me. Also I’m sure that Pratt actually pushed Rook onto a truck on its way out of the compound.
Say what you will about the story but the gameplay was absolutely amazing, unlike FC6. You could shoot someone with a goddamn rocket launcher and it actually killed them, helicopters and vehicles with guns were genuinely fun to use without thinking about your ‘level’ and how you might have to hit enemies 20 times with a 50 cal to kill them.
