wind condition was strong today as you could see in the day race of LV cup final around 20 knots + and occasional y some 25 kN + , with swell , it is not surprising that at more than 50 kn and a form sea those machine can capsize at any moment
The balance between the wind and sail must be very precarious. The are very similar to a catamaran with one hull up out of the water.
When you're pumping seawater out of your $50M sailboat, you're fhucked...
I feel the rod rigging right next to the cyclsts is dangerous. The shrouds can break.

Ce sont de belles machines qui certes vont très vite, mais on ne peut pas appeler ça des bateaux dans l’état actuel des choses. Car ils ne peuvent pas naviguer sans une assistance sécuritaire. Ceci dit, la dimension recherche conceptuelle est évidement passionnante. Des solutions à ces problèmes seront trouvées.

Probably don't want to sail these boats across the Atlantic to compete, like they used to.
They can only sail in relatively smooth water and a strong breeze. If the wind is gusting at all, they are no good.

Formula 1 cars are also not very comfortable to participate in the Paris-Dakar rally. However, we admire these cars :)

They are not true boats designed for heavy seas. They are a racing contraptions designed for sport in favorable conditions.

I remember watching sailboat racing when they would get knocked over and still had a keel to right themselves. You know, back when they were sail boats not whatever the hell these things are. :D
