  • Today, I top off a two part series of planting up some beautiful planters from one of my top two nurseries. Come along as we mix it up with a large haul of planters to spice up a bland area under a Birch tree. Let’s transform these planters with the repeated use of Hydrangeas, Potato Vines and finally a few Wood Ferns to bring to life and complete a beautiful pocket in our the landscape.

Oh. My. Goodness. You are truly an artist! You've created a hill of hydrangeas in those gorgeous pots that are to die for! Yes, I will be copying this even if on a smaller scale somewhere in my garden. Your garden is by far THE MOST beautiful of any YT channels, including two of which I think are the biggest! I garden on almost two acres. The difference I think between you and me is that I too can visualize how I want each space to look, but YOU implement on a level that I know I'll never achieve. The colors and textures in your garden along with your art is just stunning above all others! Thank you for sharing your genius with all of us! Now, I'll have to find a place for a hill of beauty that I can pull off!!!

I have a serious case of nursery envy! How blessed you are to have a resource like this...awesome diversity of plant textures and colors from which to choose your garden pallet. I first had to begin container gardening because of "playful" pups, but I also have serious tree root issues in my wooded backyard. I love your selection of pots....a variety of pot shapes but cohesive colors to meld them all together....an incredible job! Thanks for taking us along with you, Mike........

Yay, two videos in one week! What a treat! The planters look great. It added another layer of interest in the garden. Love the different shapes and sizes. Thank you for the inspiration. Speaking of local nurseries, I absolutely love going to my local nursery on Mother’s day and picking a special tree or shrub for my garden.

Had a home invasion 3 mo ago. One of many heartbreaking part is the breakage of pottery collected from living all over the world. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Love Terra Cotta and your nursery. Living in 9B there’s a limit of what can be planted, the summer here is your winter. The combinations you create look natural, whimsical, natural protection from neighbors. I do get daring by bringing inside cooler climate plants and grow them. It’s fun, experimenting and good for the soul. Lol ✨💖✨

What a beautiful yard and job you have learned quite a bit. I have been in my home 11 years and learn something every year. I have counted my pots Today. I have 38 pots besides my Inground Plants very pleased with my Overall look. Pink's purple's, white Dark potato vines, green potato vines. Splash of yellow here and there, this is so much fun and relaxing for me, as I'm sure it is for you, so rewarding. We do not have any kind of garden centers like you have so I think I do pretty well for what we have. You are blessed that way. Have a blessed day the Oklahoma gardener.

Who would have ever thought to repeat the same combination in all the planters. This is stunning!!!!!! I love layering the sizes of pots. Papa Bear, Mama Bear , and Baby Bear. Now I need to add siblings! Potato vine is one of the most striking additions to any pot. Love that pop of chartreuse. And yes, your backyard is way more than a backyard. This is a destination... a sanctuary for any gardener. Then the texture of the fern is perfect. The weathered patina of the pots is magic .

Hi Mike, yesterday on another channel a few of us recommend you, so you might get some newbies. What a wonderful nursery my eyes went right to the planters you got😆I was thinking how beautiful with some rusty element near them, and here it is!I finally got hydrangea in my garden I have a shade area finally and so I did a bunch of shade inpots.Love the arrangements of the pots and the flowers and plants are such a beautiful combo.Coming down the walkway it just draws you in! Your garden is like a park! The clematis im guessing sometimes it's hard to see on video I can't tell if it has a strip or solid. If it has strip my guess Nelly mosser,if solid Arabella.Theirs different groups and varieties.I wish I traveled to that area i would love to go visit with my camera and sit and have coffee and talk with you and Jesse.Have a wonderful weekend 🕊️💚🇺🇲

If I went to that nursery, I would have a breakdown, with all the beautiful plants. I couldn't decide. Don't give women more than 3 choices The pot plantings lift your garden to another level. I don't know how many levels there are, but you're close to the top. I had to add pots to our raised garden bed area cause of flooding and I wanted flowers to bring the pollinators. We made arbors on both ends so we could drive the mower and wagon thru to dump mulch etc. You should include vegetables in your garden they have beautiful structure too. Make it a potgea garden.

Clay soil is tough. Fortunately, when I started gardening I had GREAT mentors. I learned to garden in Missouri so I know about Clay soil. My biggest discovery for clay soil....triple ground mulch. I lived in a county that had nothing but rock and clay but I started using triple ground in all my beds ( thank you to my horticulturist friend from Missouri Botanical Gardens) After 2 years my soil became rich rich loam. It was amazing. I am a new subscriber...your garden is amazing...I'm so inspired. Moved to west coast Florida 8 years ago so I had to learn all over and it has been a new challenge. Thank you for sharing and your encouragement. If I still lived in St. Louis I would definitely be visiting...

In our area, the big box stores, send plants that survive in their home office state of North Carolina. Living in upstate New York most of the perennials they sell don’t survive here, so yes, you are way ahead of the game. Going to an independent nursery. I agree, 100%.

100% agree on local nurseries over corporate big box stores... if you don't know what to look for. I live in Central FL, Zone 9b and all the chain stores have had Japanese Maples available for the past three months. That's the ideal plant to buy, bring home and throw into your compost pile so you can say you make expensive compost in your yard. Planting one in the yard here is a waste of time, energy and space because they will die quick. Big box stores are dangerous to the desire to garden.
That said, I prefer outlet stores for my pots. When I go to my local nurseries, I see dozens and dozens of beautiful pots. And many of them just look the same. Which is great if you want everything to match. I like a more eclectic feel with my pottery and the outlet stores are where I can find fairly unique pots at a fraction of the cost that the nurseries or even big box stores are asking.
