Time pressure…..ABC had 30 minutes and 4.25 minutes for ads. Dick Clark had to manage that. If he didn’t manage it properly he was toast because he was messing with the network’s income. That’s why he panicked every time there was a tiebreaker and rushed things. Like 2 minute warning in football. Dick would have not made a good head football coach.
