I'm still getting used to the teleprompter. It will get better in the future. It's hard to find an alternative to lav mics for vloggers. This video goes into great detail why.
I don't know. I half-way agree. For vloging definitely lavier mics or a decent large diaphragm cardoid-pattern condenser mic (or a nice large/medium diaphragm dynamic mics like a Shure SM-7 or Sennheiser 421) are the way to go. But for doing short films with actors moving around, shotgun mics can be a life-saver especially when you have a separate audio guy with a mic-boom (and the all important fluffy wind noise suppressor). But you are right that they generally do not sound as good for vlogging, but for video work with actors moving around a lot they do blow away cardoid mics. In those situations wireless lavier mics can be a pain in the ass to hide on the actors as well.
Yeah, if you have a person operating the mic at all times, shotguns are fantastic. I'm targeting a lower budget audience where people generally don't have employees though.
