I know everybody is wondering about this, so I will go ahead and fill you in. The movie Lust For Freedom does feature the song Lust For Freedom by Grim Reaper.
Hell yeah kicking it off with Hong Kong classics. That Chameleon release of Election and Election 2 is absolutely incredible. Tiger Cage trilogy is fantastic, the Brave Archer set is a banger for fans of old school martial arts films. Great video! Also, legit had no idea Space Monster even had a Blu release. I just reviewed that one.
Thank you Heath for these videos! With so many labels, is very easy to get lost and miss some fantastic releases. As soon as you started with the brave archer collection and i heard it was a "exclusive limited edition", had to put pause to your video and ran to shout factory website to order a copy for myself :) Im now waiting to it to arrive lol
Hi Heath..... thanks for the update ! I totally agree..... we are living in a golden age for physical media (both film and cd..... I also collect a lot of classic rock, r & b and jazz, along with tv / cinema.) And as you pointed out....I also agree..... there is almost more coming out than I can keep up with ! lol. It is a great thing to have to deal with. As always, thanks for the updates on all these random new blu ray releases ! it really is amazing that so many companies are putting out all this older content , tv and cinema, for fans of tv and cinema.... and with really nice graphic design/packaging and bonus materials. At this point, if you had to chose a top 5 re-releases for 2023 , what would they even be ? or would you have to have multiple categories ? a recommendation, for reviews and possible interviews : Indicator / Powerhouse. This is a great UK label, that I don't see too much reviewed by many you tubers. They put out lots of classic cinema, well known and obscure. They have great editions, that seem to straddle the line between criterion and arrow / scream factory. Eclectic / artsy films, historically important and genre films. They do "limited editions" .... they're limited editions , basically are the same editions of the blu rays that eventually go to "standard edition" format...... what the limited edition gives you, is nice, lengthy booklets on the film (the way you like, as you note in this episode), sometimes in collected boxes, with slip ribbons, and numbering. Once the "limited" edition sells out, they go to standard edition..... if it's a collected work, the films are sold individually..... without numbering or booklets. If you order direct from Indicator..... you will sometimes get limited 2 sided posters. They have audio commentaries, multiple documentaries and featurettes, sometimes early shorts by the director who handled the main film, alternate international cuts in their entirety, and reversible slips / art, based off of the original poster art. And really sharp graphic design / typeface usage on the packaging and disc menus. they have just started getting into 4k, with some Euro-vampire films in recent months (the work of Jean Rollins is first.) Their work also is released in both UK only , to region free. Take a look, and consider reaching out to them to do interviews. I think you'll be impressed (if you haven't already picked up some of their work.) The first blu ray I got , was a limited edition of the 1957/58 Night of the Demon....... it has multiple alternate cuts of the film. Amazing. keep up the amazing work Heath ! Thank you so much for all the updates and cool content !
We have never been in a more golden age of physical media. Only problem is having enough shelf space. At a little over 2,000 blurays and *only* have room for about 1,000 more. Gonna have to curate to keep up with the new releases!
Shaw brothers have been getting a ton of live and really nice to see, think they put out well over 600 titles back in the day, and most have not gotten a region 1 release, at least on Blu til.the last 2 years or so.
(1) Awesome shirt; (2) "Moon Runners" is great. Gotta get a copy. Hope they do a restore. (3) My folks and I all went to a semi-local showing of "Shin Ultraman" because we're all in the kaiju community. It was no "Shin Godzilla," but it was fun.
You always do good videos Heath I have a suggestion though was wondering if it would be possible that when you show the back of the boxes if it was possible to have a freeze frame blow up of the back just shown long enough to freeze the video and be able to read it because I find it hard to read the back with just you holding it at a certain length but if you could screen grab the back as a big picture it would be easier to read. Anyway keep up the great work you do and hopefully you do more commentaries .
I've done that in the past, but it just adds extra time and effort to what already takes hours to edit. In this video's case, that would have been an additional 50 edits and who knows how many extra hours. Hopefully you can pause it and achieve close to the same effect.
Great video, just discovered your channel and really enjoyed this one. A few more honourable mentions that could’ve slipped in are anything by Blue Underground, Zombie and The Final Countdown in particular and UK company Second Sight Films are one of the best boutique 4k restorers around, not only are they creating some amazing editions but the restorations on some of their films are stunning, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Drive are superb, I highly recommend checking them out. 👍🏻
Well, you did it again, my friend. Your timely coverage of great titles that have come out has, once again, caused me to dip into my wallet and order the Brave Archer Collection. Also, while there, topping off my Shout order with Lords of the Deep. I hope you find the time to do a deep dive review of some of your stack without dropping them😂
Radiance isn't the new Criterion. They'll never have the depth of catalog for that. They are great though! I think they fill a hole left by Arrow (Academy) and Masters of Cinema (since Eureka has heavily pivoted to martial arts). Warm Water Under a Red Bridge should be worth watching. Is there any Imamura that isn't?
I’d love to see Criterion get them back! Their DVD releases of The Killer and Hard Boiled were awesome! They have been OOP for a long time, so bring your wallet!
Maybe you have answered this before but where do you put all that stuff? I basically had stop collecting because I am going to have to buy an extra house if I keep going.
I've been leaning into this storage method more and more over the last 7 months and have filed away over 1,000 discs like this: ruclips.net/video/xYFRA2MDmuI/видео.html
"Faster than I can keep up with ... " I am reminded of Luke in his X-Wing ... "THEY'RE COMING IN TOO FAST!!!" Not meant to be unsympathetic; i can completely relate because there is a ton of new cool stuff that I want and I have to stick to a budget ... Also, I am going to completely date myself by noting that a movie entitles MAGIC COP should have a theme song sung by Ann Wilson with a rockin' guitar from her sister, Nancy ...
So much stuff. No wonder your voice started giving out. Doing a two hour livestream does it for me. At the end of it I sound like Tom Waits mixed with Bryan Brown.
I love these "one off" movies. Last year I picked up an early Jodie Foster movie The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane. It's a creep thriller with a less than savory Martin Sheen. Foster does a great job at such a young age, the beginnings of what was to come.
Great update with a wide variety of releases. However, I just want to point out that Larry Fine was not part of the Howard family. Did you get Larry mixed up with Moe??? You may need to ease up on the watching of Radiance blus and go back to watching some Stooges shorts on DVD to obtain the proper life balance. Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck! THE BINGO LONG TRAVELLING ALL-STARS & MOTOR KINGS on the Richard Pryor double disc is a good look back at the Negro league. This very entertaining film has a great cast especially Billy Dee Williams and a youngish James Earl Jones. Also, GORGEOUS came out in 1999, not 2011. Pretty good. Also, the first Mike Hammer series with Stacy Keach debuted in 1984, not the 70's. There was actually more classic private eye movies and series in the 70's than the 80's. Would love to see interviews with the people behind Cauldron Films and Synapse!
Yep, I was thinking Moe. The misspeak was the exhaustion talking. I have no idea why the box for Gorgeous shows a 2011 copyright date! Thanks for the fact checking! They're becoming more necessary as I try desperately to keep up with the volume of releases.
@@CerealAtMidnight It helps if you lived through some of this stuff. I remember my situation when I first saw GORGEOUS and Stacy Keach's debut on tv as Mike Hammer.
I don't know how many times I said that in this video: "this is more than I can keep up with." The point isn't to say "look what I bought" because I bought almost none of it. It's to show people what's coming out so they can make informed purchase decisions. I make these videos as a service, not to boast about my collection.
I have the feeling that you buy things that you not really care about. I could be wrong! I'm from Belgium and I followed are your movies on your tube. I'm a big fan
@@CerealAtMidnight I guess my remark came off a little crass, because it was so shortwinded. My interest was sincere. 21:15 Redline was released theatrically, and it was not an exploitation film. You don't seem to have a proper understanding of that term. Was it a good movie? No, not really. I went to see this movie in 2007 because I was a fan of Nadia Bjorlin, and I would say that the only reason to buy this movie would be if one is a fan of Nadia Bjorlin. That being said, I'm not planning to buy it.
@@CerealAtMidnight definitely horror collectors that I know buy only DVD and some cousins of mine too. I'm the only horror fan that I know that buys DVDs, Blu-Rays and 4Ks because I'm a big collector. But I buy the latest releases on DVD at Walmart.🤔
Picked up a copy of Gorgeous thinking it was another Jackie Chan movie (Who Am I) and was thoroughly disappointed by it. It's a romantic comedy with some random fighting thrown in because Chan is the lead (they are awesome fights regardless). The leads have zero chemistry and Shu Qi gives one of the worst performances ever. Absolutely grating on the nerves in every possible way.
It's so cool but I don't not understand dvd!?. Unless you're on a budget with a small tv (which if you are the why not stream/download) dvd sucks, it's such bad quality
DVD still does and probably always will represent the largest market share of home media by a large margin. We mustn't forget that many TV shows and movies only have SD elements. DVD is the cheapest format to produce and the one that still sells the best.
@@CerealAtMidnight Ahh I get that for sure, I guess people collect for different reasons :)) I collect for the best version of a release so dvd has been long left behind for me personally...
