I broke down and changed the timer for the little LED Christmas lights I use in my chicken coops. They aren't bright enough to bother the hens, but they let me see enough in the dark to do what I need to do in there. I'll have to do it again when we change times, but it's got to where it's dark longer and I need those lights.
I never made infused herbal oils for cooking, usually just "fry" the herbs in the oil while I'm cooking since I always seem to have either fresh or dried on hand. Kinda funny that I never tried making any, considering this sort of stuff is something I love making myself! I've only made infused oils and fats for salves and topicals, where you always add in things that would act to sanitize and stabilize the end product. I never really thought about the danger of botulism in oils. Thank goodness you posted this. To dry the herbs after the citric acid soak, could you use the dehydrator (lower temps like 100-115 degrees) to get them really dry or even dehydrated? Would dehydrated herbs work and still be safe?
I'm going to check out that nifty little machine for myself! It looks like it might be something I'd use.
It's really great to have such a knowledgeable source for this important and useful information. Bless you, sweet friend. Hugs!

Hi Wink. I’m sure they would by I bet you will still have to soak them. The recipe came from university of Oklahoma. They didn’t address dried herbs. We’ve Been investigating for a couple of weeks because I wanted to make sure that we did it right. Be careful if you find other sources that say it’s OK without refrigeration. Lots of love my dear

Can’t even tell you how shocked I was when I went to check on my basil olive oil recipe as some of the other videos shows to do
And low and behold, the basil had mold growing on it
I knew there had to be something more to making this infused olive oil so glad you took the time to share this with us all
    Thank you

Can you dehydrate the herb in a dehydrator then use it? Or do you still need to soak for 24 hours then dehydrate and use? Great video I'm looking to do this for christmas. Now to figure out what to do with chocolate mint! My garden is full!

This is super informative but now im worried...
Did pine infused oils yesterday, but i jumped the gun and did a few of them fresh. I put some clove oil and cloves in the mix in the hopes it may fight off mold, botulism and racidity. (im not gonna use this for eating, probably for skin care and such). Im not sure if i should dump the whole thing entirely and start over entirely, take the pines out and do something to dry it out or what?
