Evinrude 2001 115hp starter-bendix repair

  • The starter wasn't engaging the flywheel every time.
    I read (online) that the bendix may need lubrication.
    I decided to find out.
    It did.
    If you have this problem, I hope this video helps you.
    As a follow up, the lube helped for a while, but eventually I had to change the bendix (the teeth were worn on the front side, they are not supposed to be... they ARE angled at the tip on the backsides, to allow them to feed into the flywheel easier)

    I used grease and it was a mistake, got to use something less thick like WD40 because grease made it stick and not spin up. Any drag on the Bendix will cause it to not travel up.

      That is possible, I used grease because that was what already there (but it had dried out)

    I have same engine and same problem gear not coming up.PS I want to sell whole boat motor and trailer for around 800 its 1975 boat 2000 fuel injection 115 evenrud engine
