RIP Levi. May you rest somewhere that’s green.
I love that he does the rap that was cut from the film. I wish this was added into the stage show. At least they restored the original ending for the film.
Yeah it is sad that they went with a happy ending for the film but the original didn't gel well with the test audience so they changed it as well as cutting out a dream sequence but hey they had to come under budget.
The rap is in the film, but they only used two of the three verses in the original book (the one they cut is in this clip). "You know I don't come from no black lagoon... I'm from past the stars and beyond the moon. You can keep the bat, keep the It, keep the creature, they don't mean shit!"
This was an incredible performance! Viewers at the time were disappointed the Best Song nominees didn't each get separate performances. Instead, they were all forced into a single montage, of which this was definitely the highlight. The audience was actually very much into it, by the way, with reviewers noting that had the award been decided during the show, "Mean Green Mother" would have won the trophy hands down.

I love when we get to see any Audrey 2 performer sing in person, especially Stubbs. A couple years ago the then-current main cast stopped by Tiny Desk to do a few songs, and it’s such a treat to see Aaron Arnell Harrington and Conrad Ricamora do “Feed Me” face-to-face. They have a lot of fun with it and kinda play up the sexual undertone, and Aaron in particular just knocks it out of the park. Oh and Alan Menken sings Somewhere That’s Green after saying some nice words about Howard Ashman. It’s an excellent Tiny Desk, everyone should go watch it
