The great thing about cast iron is that it retains the heat. I would suggest you get the cast iron skillet 'screaming' hot. Take it off the heat, cover the bottom of the pan with oil, then the eggs and let the heat of the skillet cook the eggs. I really believe your eggs were sticking, because you didn't have enough oil. I spent 40 some minutes waiting for the breakfast sandwich and still loved it....truthfully your videos are excellent and for persons that can't do what you do that is an amazing thing. It gives us joy and hope. Bad part is that you didn't have cheese or mayonnaise on your breakfast sandwich....next time you go through a fast food place ask for a mayo packet and they will give you a couple even if you just ordered a pop :)
Oh hell yeah! Back to the days of Joe and scout in the woods making awesome looking breakfast samiches! Joe you make me hungry every time I watch your videos.
Joe-Was in a Tractor Supply store in Waynesville, NC (just West of Asheville in the mountains) had my Tripper Tobaggan on a clerk asked me is that a Joe Robinet Tobaggan. Said sure is then we talked about Scout and Tripper. He was in his teens and I am in my 60s. Young and old you are known in the mountains of NC. Miss Scout and better health to Tripper. Keep up the good work.
Yes, that was my first thought. We used to build fires on a rocky beach by the river when I was a kid and practically every stone beneath would explode with incredible force. Someone would usually get at least mildly injured.
That is true. However the stones can be dried by putting them in direct sunlight for a few hot days. I reckon they will dry within a few days in the shelter.
yes, some certainly can. Many types of rocks, including these are fine. Its only happened once to me, it was with river rocks, boosh and I got very lucky that day.
They certainly can, but it varies depending on the kind of rock and the amount of water it can absorb. Shale for instance can absorb a lot of water and is very prone to cracking/exploding when heated. Stuff like granite, though, not as much.
I agree with it! never thought of it because I've never heated rocks that fast... not for use in a pit of place anyways. I mean yeah you don't want to but a wet piece of slate on the fire to heat to cook fish in an hour...
Ummm. That was limestone, not granite. Limestone is porous as hell, no chance that it isn’t waterlogged. Also, the rock that was already split in your fire pit, what the hell do you think happened to that one?
Hey Joe. The fort is coming along with lots of potential. TA Outdoors did something cool (Building a Viking House | 10 Day Bushcraft Shelter Build @5:55) where they dug a shallow trench and lined it with rocks. A 30 X 15 inch-ish trench for a firepit with your rocks on the bottom and all 4 sides would be really cool.
If you have clay anywhere around your camp, you can reinforce the stones and create a makeshift fireplace. You can even add a rocket stove on the side for efficient cooking.
I used to watch your videos every single morning as I had breakfast a couple years ago and I've recently rediscovered your channel and I am loving the new content! Keep it up Joe :)
