    In the "Wrong Way Up", the riders and drivers did everything wrong but there is something positive that came out of it.
    The Rivian electric truck and Livewire engineers probably gained a lot of real world use information that helped them with the development of the products.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  3 года назад

      True! Great point. Whatever they learned from that trip really paid off in the production models.

    • @stevenb7319
      @stevenb7319 3 года назад

      Excellent point! Even if it was done comically wrong it was a great wear test, with a Harley and tech going with and tons of video documentation it was perfect for testing. Most companies couldn’t afford to do that kind of test and document it properly on their own. In that trip the more that went wrong the more bugs Harley and Rivian would find and take care of for production models after then.

    • @glennhenderson9243
      @glennhenderson9243 2 года назад

      The only issue for me is that it was done in the public arena. Real world testing takes place all of the time, but not generally shared with the public through mainstream media. The damage done to the brand was significant I believe. Case in point is that it is still talked about it to this day and is the back-bone of many ICE riders distorted views on EV's.

    Hi Sam, I loved the fit and finish on the livewire when I test rode one a while back, however the price point was not justifiable by any means, now with the price reduction that puts in the same price point of the Zero it kind of makes it a no brainer if compared to the sr/f, Energica still on his own league, as the Ribelle and Ego are definitely more sporty, and, at least to me, give a more exclusive and "elite" kind of vibe (like riding an Mv Augusta, kind of vibe)

    Loving my LiveWire. I've had it 1.5 months and I've already got 3300 miles on it. Such a premium riding experience and I love all the tech that's behind it. You're absolutely right about having 118 years of experience behind the design - I can certainly feel the years of hard work and design that went into the bike. For the first iteration of this model, they nailed it. Had they come out the gate with that $22k price point, I think you'd still see the LiveWire with the H-D logo. I'm glad that I was able to snag up the last H-D LiveWire in Virginia still brand new (and with that lower price point).

Literally the one thing that pushed me towards the LiveWire was the fit and finish - just wasn't attracted energica's look. I adore the LiveWire. I especially like that it has everything I've wanted on it. With my DSR, I continuously felt like I had to keep updating it or modding it to perform the way I wanted (charge tank, quiq chargers, etc). Plus with CCS, one cable to rule them all. I no longer have to worry about whether additional charging cables are available to take advantage of additional chargers.

    These motorbikes remind me of the first bulky, clunky camera phones of the early noughties that used to cost 300 quid -- which was a lot of money at the time. Somebody had to buy them, or else we wouldn't have the cheap, light, and amazing smartphones of today. Without the buyers of last year's $30,000 LiveWire, we wouldn't have the $22,000 LiveWire of today. I completely agree that more companies getting into electric means better bikes overall.
    I heard that the brand change was because of the Harley Dealer network, they didn’t want to sell those bikes unless they got a much bigger cut (because they sell less parts and maintenance). So that might bite them in the long run. But I agree with the brand change, they are not selling these to their existing riders, they are mostly targeted at a different generation of rider. The dealer network should be careful though, their current demographic is aging out. They need to embrace the future.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  3 года назад +1

      Another downside I heard was that Harley required dealers to set up super expensive machines / tools / training to even sell Livewires. Over here it was a $250k investment, to hopefully sell a $54k bike.. of which they've sold under 10 in the whole country. Now that the price of the bikes have dropped, more people want to buy them but there's even less return on investment for dealers. I wish the money side of it wasn't such a huge factor and we could just buy electric motorcycles.

    • @jasonshortphd
      @jasonshortphd 3 года назад

      @@NewZeroland That would make a lot of sense. They would need to add chargers at a minimum, and probably special tools. You have to sell a certain number to justify that investment in your facilities.

    Great vid as always. I haven't heard of many people who have actually ridden this bike and not been impressed. It seems like an amazing bike.
    The price was just really hard to justify, even if the bike is really good. No matter which way you cut it, 30K for a bike you can only ride 100 miles at a time is a hard pill to swallow for most. This new price drop is HUGE and extremely exciting. Especially because maybe they'll offer more midrange bikes under this new brand. Or, a bigger long range cruiser to get back up to that high end 30k price.
    The other big deterrent for me is charging. It essentially doesn't have lvl 2 charging, so if I can't find a DC fast charger (none near my work) I have to wait the same 9 hours I had to wait for my zero. I really want DC fast charging, but not at the expense of the regular level 2 charging that makes up the majority of the infrastructure here.
    And the big one, that I want more info on is just luggage. I've never seen a livewire with a top case, rear rack, or even saddle bags and I haven't found any info on the options available. Having at the very least a rear rack is a necessity for me, since I lug my tools to work on my bike.

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland  3 года назад

      Yeah great point.. even a 3kW charger would be better than what they have now. I wonder if the new Livewire will have a bigger one. Charging infrastructure definitely determines which bike to buy. It's a bummer that the bikes are improving faster than the charging stations, but hopefully soon DC won't be so rare. I'm hoping the Tesla superchargers opening up to all CCS vehicles will change things. And yeah! More range of bikes! A smaller / lighter / cheaper bike would be sweet if it still has fast charging.

    • @caramelzappa
      @caramelzappa 3 года назад

      @@NewZeroland My feeling is that in the states DC will likely be less common for another decade at least. Installing a J-plug level 2 charger is cheap and easy, instealling a DC fast charger is complex and expensive. Electrify america is installing DC stations at a pretty rapid pace, but it's still a drop in the bucket compared to the # of level 2 stations we already have and more are still being installed.
      Plus the other important reason to have level 2 charging on the bike is simply home charging. Nobody is going to have DC at home, but lots of people have level 2, myself included. My electric car shouldn't get a full charge faster than my electric bike, but that's the case right now.
      But yeah I'm excited about this new livewire brand and this price drop, really looking forward to what they do in the future.

      That's pretty much what I had figured. No official or even purpose built third party, just lots of homemade or generic solutions. Personally that's a no-go for me. I need a rated back-plate I can mount my pelican case to, or side racks I can mount other hard cases to. Hopefully future livewire bikes will have more luggage considerations. I would love to see a livewire reimagining of the pan-america.

    Was waiting on your opinion of the Livewire. Its torque sits at 86ft/lbs, which makes it comparable to Zero’s 78ft/lbs on the FX, S, and DS models. To me, thar makes the Livewire a better choice as a first electric motorcycle purchase than jumping on a torque monster like the Eva or SR/F. @@NewZeroland the livewire branded ones yes they're cheaper. But....big caveat...in the US there are only going to be 4 dealers opened this year. And our DC3 fast charging infrastructure sucks here. And with the extra 6kw charging block the zero has better charging unless you want to pay 20 bucks for an hour of DC3

      There are enough Electrify America stations now to do cross-country rides (someone did it on a Livewire and then on an Energica). I know charging for free is awesome, but waiting 2 hours at each stop is just too long.
