As a new private at Ft. Drum back in '88, one of my first assignments was to walk the Arty range in kevlar, flak vest and canteen on pistol belt with a hand full of flags looking for unexploded rounds. When we found unexploded ordinance, we would stick a flag next to it so EOD could come get it later. they did give us instructions to step carefully.... fun times.
My pappy was the range marshal
super rare video of the ballistics of artillery! thanks!
im the type that loves seeing rounds fly and impact, not so much when watching the gun shoot.
4 real
Whatever the question is, artillery is the answer.
watching those rounds leave the muzzle in slow motion was amazing ,artillery, the King of battle ❤
The communication and team work is incredible. So much respect.
King of battle
I was a gunner in a tank outfit in the 80's. Only a 105 but man that baby could really kick. Im in my 60's now but damned if I wouldnt do it again if they let me ... Good times...😂
i love the speed of sound
That slo mo video was badass
Awesome
Very impressive footage.
Some of the coolest artillery round footage ever 0:24
I was on the radios in the C.P. on one live fire Ex when some poor guy had “taken a wrong toin’ at Albuquerque” and ended up driving through the Impact Area as our rounds were falling. That was the fastest Check Fire in history. And likely an underwear check for the guy on the other end of that radio. 😆

INCOMING!!!!!
1:27 the definition of: You see that tree line over there... "yes sir" ... I don't like it ... "aye sir"
Looked like fort sill. Time on target missions are awesome! I trained on the m109a6 at sill but got sent to fort campbell where they had the 119a2. I miss all of it. Too bad there was no footage of the m119 in machine gun mode, 9 rounds in a minute was the fastest my section ever fired and as the number 1 man, it was the most fun. Hooah!
Love how he sits on the towed Howitzer when he fires it. I bet that’ll pucker your sphincter the first time that sucker goes off.😂
Is the brown smoke impact an identification of a unexploded? Ordinance compared to the white smoke impacts.?????
Looks like an inert training round without explosive filler.
👊🏽
When I first joined the Australian Army Artillery my detachment sergeant told me our main job was to get rounds down range on a target area the size of a football Field about 18 km away or 11 miles fnot an easy thing to do
How frequently would a howitzer be used in the anti-tank roll on a modern battlefield?
does any military use the auto eject mechanism like the WW2 german 88? the 105 seems painfully slow.
I suppose the modern question is: old style non-sp tube artillery. Can you now?
Can they shoot the m109 mobile artillery vehicle while there are people inside??
yea they help load it you can see the guys legs in side the opening in a few of the clips
used to be 4 gun bunnies in a 109,... Section Chief, Gunner, Assist Gunner and the #1 Cannoneer are in the cab during operation.
I thought the 105 was not used anymore in favor of the 155
💪👌👍⚔🇺🇸⚔💪
Imagine being an ant colony in that field.
Let me go out there with my metal detector
Where’s the Hulk?
would howitzer rounds be capable of destroying modern tanks when used as direct fire weapons?
Absolutely.
yes very capable especially with guided projectiles, but also dependent on the surface impacted, type of round, direct or indirect fire
Howitzer projectile weighs about 40 kg, you take a full load and shoot directly - it opens tanks like a fish can.
German army trains it regularly - but it is last chance shot, it means your army did everything wrong
@@bigdevil73 - And you only get one shot. If you miss, that tank you were aiming for will have you centered in their cross-hairs before you can get another round loaded.

True, but I think that is why the Western doctrine revolves around air superiority and air support, using surgical air strikes to dismantle the enemy forces
why impact fuse rather than proximity?
Way too slow. Much needed up grade to magazine feeding operations. pew pew
The aircraft carrier group gives priority to attacking its tail! (The main purpose is to destroy its power system), as for how to attack and destroy the power system of its aircraft carrier fleet. Air-to-sea low-altitude flight combat! It is easier to destroy its power system!
