I had the honor and pleasure of working with Roza Fragorapti, a musician and musicologist with a master's degree in ancient Greek music, she has devoted herself to the study of the seven-stringed lyre. He has given concerts in Greece, Italy and other European countries. In June 2021, he received the world's first Ancient Greek Lyre Diploma from the Municipal Conservatory of Nice, Athens.
Music: N. Xanthoulis
Translation of an ancient text: K. Georgousopoulos
Video/Montaz: Stefanos Matsoukalidis Развлечения
I wasn't prepared to hear the singing. I am shooketh
That was very beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much❤
This Comment Killed Me 🤣 I Am Shooketh 😂😂 The Perfect Part Of The Song Was Playing When I Read This!
I was thinking....Really cool that someone is still playing such an ancient instrument, and then you started singing. Oh my, no wonder they picture this in heaven.
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment ❤
@@rosafragorapti7lyreaa
agreed, this is beautiful, some say harps others say lyres. Either way king David wrote they played a 10 string version of the instruments found in Psalm 33:2
Words from my mouth.
You took the the text out of my comment 😅👌👏🔥
I don't speak Greek, but I did a lot of classics. I was shocked to actually understand some of those words! Thank you!
❤❤❤
I got one word: Thanatos, AKA “death.” 😅
@@DrFranklynAnderson athanatos aka immortal 😜😅
@@rosafragorapti7lyre 😂 Fine, ruin this Ancient Greece nerd's feeling of linguistic accomplishment! Next you're going to tell me that the kithara lyre wasn't invented on/named after the island of Kythira! 😉
(I'm 90% sure it wasn't, after several hours of Google-fu one day, but if anybody's going to get that pun it'll be someone with a master's degree in Ancient Greek music!)
@@DrFranklynAnderson❤❤.😊 i
No wonder why your plants are looking fabulous as you are. Their hearing music from an angel and feel the healing. I'm sure they appreciate it as much as we do. I want your green house Lol.
😊🙏❤️
that is not how plants work
@@nathanstrong4359 Really tell that to the scientists that just caught a plant talking to its neighbor on video. If they can talk to each other, they can hear us. Everything is frequency.
It is a fabulous gift to those plants!
Wow. I have always wondered what that instrument sounded like when played by someone accomplished. So beautiful.
My words exactly, and yet, it sounds just like I thought it would. So beautiful. And her voice is heavenly!
Thank you so much🙏
Toumani Diabaté would like to offer you some new music played on his kora.
Πανέμορφο❤

I have never heard a voice like yours before. It is galactic, ancient, young, pure, spherical. Truly a wonder to hear, and the lyre! I am in love. Thank you so much. 🥰
Thank you for your Beautiful words 🙏
She has got a beautiful voice, and I would really love to know the translation into English. If you like this sort of vocal quality, I recommend you search out Enya, who arrived on the music scene in the late 1980s. She's an Irish vocalist. ruclips.net/video/WGQ0zPQCsqQ/видео.html
it sounds like a sweet dream, as I am lulled by her endearing and kind voice I melt into a state of just contentment.
Beauty at its finest.
Thank you for your beautiful comment ❤
Those harmonics were wonderful in the beginning, amazing playing
Thank you❤
Look at this world! How immensly Beautiful it is!
And yet...
There is nothing more beautiful than a Woman.
So that is why us opera singers call your voice type 'lyrical'! Beautiful ❤
❤❤❤
Amazing. Much love from Turkey.
I got goosebumps as soon as you began to sing. Wish it was longer
Thank you❤
I got chills too! So beautiful
How lovely! I felt as if I was granted a glimpse into the distant past.
🙏❤
Wow, mi primera impresión fue "que bien toca la lyra".
Cuando comenzó a cantar, me transportó instantáneamente a otra época histórica.
Hermoso, gracias por compartir cultura.
❤❤❤
ευχαριστώ

Beautiful lyre of ancient Greece. Thank you for sharing.
🙏❤
Absolutely beautiful voice and musicianship! Bravo!
Thank you ❤
For the last half a year, I've been learning the seven-stringed lyre and know that the type of technique Mrs. Matsoukalidis is practicing is something incredible. If I am correct, the high octave technique used in and around 0:22 was called "Hroes". It is used to produce 11 notes on each string. It takes serious skill. I've seen Nikos Xanthoulis play this song if I am correct. What a remarkable piece you have made, Mrs. Matsoukalidis! I admire and commend you for the time and dedication you've put into learning the instrument. In combination with your voice I can only describe it as Elysian in how beautiful it is.
👍thanks for the info on the 11 notes for each string , I always thought that there was something more to the lyre . other Video's I've seen did not portray anything worth listening to ? this hroes is based on Pythagoras 12 note theory ! cool !
I'm not familiar with the term "hroes" but as a strings player I am familiar with "harmonics," which is what I think those were. They're based off of mathematical divisions of the string, and get more difficult to use as you move up the string (my perspective as an upright bass player: the first one is so convenient that you'd typically use it instead of actually fingering the same note, I typically use the second and third one for tuning, but beyond that they start to get impractical, at least on my instrument.)
They're the same kind of thing you'd hear Jaco Pastorius use in "Portrait of Tracy." He uses the higher harmonics mostly; they "speak" a lot better on bass guitar than on upright.
watch this video ( "learn the lyre-ancient playing techniques" ) channel is ( seikilo ancient world music ) she seems to be changing notes on each string by pressing the wooden dowel on the designated marks. what do you think ?
Wasn't it just harmonics?
How does one change what pitch the string plays? I couldn't tell what she's doing.
Her voice is SO BEAUTIFUL 😭💖 Not to mention the lovely ethereal sound of the lyre, they compliment each other so well! ❤️
Thank you so much for your beautiful words😊❤

In ancient greek the music played with string instruments was in cult to Apolo, the God of music, dance, sun and poetry
Simplesmente lindo... instrumento e voz...

The technique reminds me of what I've seen some kantele players do. Very nice!

Extraordinary performance! And i feel as though that mode still resonates in much of the best of modern Greek music. (Eleni Karaïndrou, the late and sorely lamented Angélique Ionatos, and many more whose names i don't know).
