Furphy Camp Ovens, Why are they so Expensive?
Yeah well, I just ordered a tripod with a Dutch oven. So, like Darkwing Duck says "Let's get dangerous!"
I have nailed a few of these then one fails. Issues I’m having: a band of doughy texture through middle and knowing if the coals are hot enough or not. My best attempts have come from the morning after coals. Any tips on readying coals? Sounds like a stupid question but I shovel in coals from a fresh fire, and they just keep sending my flour test black. Heaps too hot obviously. Just trying to time it right. Cheers in advance.
Damn i’m hungry

Mum made us kids eat this when we were young for the iron apparently! So it's been about 40yrs I've avoided it now i reckon!😆..I'll have another go soon mate..maybe🤣
Should be a comedian ngl
A friend of mine is a real original bush bandit 😂he never eats from any shops ever😂trusts no one’s hands 🙌 but his own 😂❤
So I gave this method a go with the knife And recipe and to my amazement it worked Perfectly. I even cook it in a Bedourie on my Ziggy bbq . Then I tested the recipe by Giving some to the trouble and Strife, and she thought it was terrific ❤😋 I have made dampers before when I wore younger man's clothes, So it just shows , You Can teach an old dog new tricks . Thanks Ron 👍
@barmynick5027 yeah it's a very tried and proven technique and recipe. Glad it worked out for you. Cheers
Best ever!!

Hi Mr King Brown! It certainly looks delicious and I want to give it a go. I only have one question, do you rinse/soak the beef before cooking it? I don't think so but I just wanted to check. Many thanks! 😊
@roisinroisin7786 I generally wash off the slime under running water then pat dry with paper towel.
Doesn't alumiumn cookware give you alzheimers?
Cant find these for sale on your website
@damodoesall6240 discontinued at the moment. I can't afford to stock them and I travel in a caravan so I don't have room to carry them.
Thats the best damper ive seen yummiest 😊from Adelaide south Australia 🇦🇺 ♥️
@JulieIelasi-lt7yp thank you. It's a long way from the best I've cooked lol
Your a gem! Thanks brother what a good Aussie bloke

Love your work old timer 👍
Bloody hell these are amazing.
@@thegingerpowerranger I've made them in batches of over 100 at a time back when I was camp oven catering. Thanks for watching. Cheers.
Wow that looks good, great job ! Did you put that in dry or did you add a bit of oil ?
@j-walk5702 I would have lightly greased the pot so the meat didn't stick but that's all.
Do you use the same method with the liquid if you used beer instead of water?
@jasonstafford3406 yeah use the technique to make lighter batters and it stops you from over wetting the batter which lowers the cooking time.
Hi Kingbrown what type of campoven you used for that cook up of Braised Beef and Onion. Thankyou.
@georgetitchmarsh4606 that's just one of my Outdoor Connection ovens. Made in China like the rest these days. I bought 20 of them years ago to use for making breadrolls in my catering business
Oof, heart-stopper recipe for sure. You’d be better off just having the pork crackling 😂

How bloody rude are you?!
Just started watching your show. My grandmother taught me to make damper. Watching you reminds me of how granny did it. Thanks for the memories
Thank you and your welcome
Is that a Bedourie oven you're mixing it in? Do you use them as camp ovens?
Yeah it is and no I dont. Far as im concerned they are not even a camp oven as they are not cast. But I am a camp oven snob :)
Thanks a million Ron...your a champion 100%🍻

Gday ron, I have watched this a few times and am going to give it a crack (novice) what I can’t pick up is the actual end cooking time , could you please put a L plater out misery
@peterbroughill it's a pretty quick dish. Once the meat and sauce are in it only needs to simmer for 15 minutes. I probably went 30
The ACOF 2024 Cooking Competition brings a new Camp Oven into my collection - time to get seasoning. Thanks Mate for another wonderful lesson on the care of our Camp Ovens. See you in October.
@@ozziecheesemald4976 yep, I will be there. Cheers
Ron that came up a treat, so great to see you out and about, the caravan looks perfect for your work, did you design it as the layout to me doesn't look like a factory deal. Good to see you and your partner out there showing us how its done. I am working up at Torbanlea and I see you did a show up that way when my swing ended so I missed you on this round trip. Cheers Garry and Davina
@AttitudeAdjuster no that's a standard layout on their new models. I love it. It's ticking all my boxes for working. I'm really looking forward to test it out on a normal camping trip where I just go fishing and fossicking. It's going to happen real soon too.
As promised, I did this recipe on Saturday night, followed it pretty closely and ended up with a real winner. Definitely the dates made the difference considering I used twice as much Guinness. Great to see you back. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Id recommend twice as much guiness, mine was good but needed more for sure.

Loved that Kraft BS & Onions . Especially in a jaffle iron over coals . Would take 3 layers of skin off the roof of your mouth if you weren't careful 😂 A good splash of Worchester sauce = 1/4 bottle 😂 Thanks for the recipe , definitely going to give it a crack .
Cheers
Brought back the memories mate.Used to have a tin on toast when I got home from school. It was the Kraft one I think.Wasn’t as meaty or tasty as yours but I’m sure.Keep up the great work mate 👍🍺
Yeah Kraft from what I remember. And awesome on toast.
Just tried this with a new supposedly pre-seasoned camp oven on a gas BBQ - Wow!!! bottom of the pot is now like glass. Can't wait to start cooking in it 👍
Yeah mate, the pre seasoned thing is designed to stop it rusting before it sells and leaves the shop. After that they couldnt care less. You shouild always season a new one and ignore the preseason coat. Cheers
I thought everything was about to get real then... Hahaha looks good mate!
I've just cooked this recipe I'm not sure how Kingbrowns tastes like But this is absolutely divine. Well done mate I hope I've done it justice.
Yeah its pretty good. glad you liked it. cheers
Third time watching this, it’s happening this weekend, some King Brown bread rolls and we’re set. Did I mention Guiness entries? 👍🏻🇦🇺

Great once again - in the US corn flour and corn starch is actually made with corn! Potato starch is my new favourite.

By Jeez that came up well Ron. Great advice. Thanks mate.
Pretty sure the sacrificial anode would be the oven itself 😊
What a brilliant result.
Hey Ron, You see a lot of people sanding the inside of there cast iron smooth with sand paper before seasoning. Is there any advantage to that as far as a slicker surface after seasoning? And does it help with the non stick surface for cooking on? Great series of videos on restoration and seasoning.
Smelt it from here 😁 WA that is 😂
Great clip mate! Great to see! no BS, just getting straight into it! An absolute pro mate, well done! Came up a beaut! 👍👏
