So many bad fitting saddles omg.. 😢
Wonderful video and very informative 👏. I've been hunting since I was 6 and I'm now 50 😮 and I learnt much from watching it which has escaped me over the years 🤦🏻♀️.
If you hold your whip like that "you look like an idiot" 😂😂😂😂
Another great video, thanks for sharing. I was watching your shadow approaching that “bogey” hedge and had a weird premonition something was about to go off-script, no idea why but glad no harm done, and props for neither of you being fazed by it. Well done spotting the wire in that other hedge and pulling him up; I think I mentioned this on one of your other videos but years ago my horse said no to a hedge and got both forelegs tangled up in a piece of metal fencing hidden deep inside it. He freed himself after clunking my helmet with it, pulling off both shoes in the process; it was a terrifying couple of minutes before I caught him and discovered that (unbelievably) he was sound and unscathed, but I had to lead him home for a couple of miles without front shoes. He was pretty stiff for a couple of days but otherwise OK.
The name of my horse was (🥲) Grainger. Losing him (even at a venerable 27) was tough but your videos are inspiring me to get back in the saddle again!
Awesome footage, well done. Great job bringing on Tonic, he is such a bold and genuine horse. When I bought my 12 yo TBX he had been hunted previously for a number of seasons, he had a terrific pop but when we competed in unaffiliated jumping classes at local shows he had a disconcerting habit of getting very deep into the fences which made for some uncomfortable moments. I was told that this is not an uncommon trait for horses with his background, which want to take a look at the other side and give it plenty of clearance! He always performed better in Working Hunter classes, I think he felt more at home over rustic fences!
The sequence at 1:55 was particularly interesting, to compare the different approach to the fence by each horse (and rider) in succession.
Tonic is a machine! 👍So genuine too. I’m sure he also feeds off your cool confidence as well. Great teamwork!
What intrigues me about hunting is how diligent most of the riders are in caring for their animals, which are clearly maintained in top condition and ridden responsibly for most of the year., with care about how and where they are exercised… and then in the hunting field all of that is suddenly completely abandoned. Galloping on hard roads and in deep mud, jumping barbed wire trotting & cantering downhill, jumping solid unforgiving obstacles on tired horses, anything goes. I’m not necessarily being critical, it’s just a curious observation
The hedge incident reminded me of a charity fun ride I did once. In their wisdom the organisers put me in a group together with three schoolgirls on ponies and an amateur jockey on a point-to-pointer, which pretty soon became just me and the jockey. He seemed to know the country and suggested we pop over a nice hedge on the far side of the field. I followed his lead towards what looked like a reasonably jumpable hedge, when he veered off towards a humungous hedge at right angles to it. As my horse lengthened his stride I felt he was going to follow the other horse over it. Needless to say the other horse sailed over it, and my horse seemed about to launch when… crash! I found myself buried in the hedge watching in horror as he tried to free his feet that were wedged in a piece of rusty metal fencing which had been hidden within the hedge. I turned my head as he clunked my helmet with the metal grid, and when I looked back he was gone. When we caught him at the other end of the field, the piece of fence was gone.. and so was one of the shoes from his front feet (he other was hanging on by a nail.) Unbelievably he was still sound, so we pulled off the remaining shoe and I led him back to the trailer. Next day he was so stiff he couldn’t even come to the stable door to search my pockets for mints. I had him checked over and after a week he was fine. I look back with shame at my stupidity, and learned my lesson; I was incredibly lucky, and could so easily have lost my horse that day. As it was, he was with me for many happy years until the ripe old age of 27. I suppose the takeaway is.. when weighing up a large hedge, don’t just consider the hedge itself, but consider what might be lurking inside it.
You and Tonic have a great partnership there. The action appears to be surprisingly prolonged and sustained, compared with my own limited experience from years ago, when there was a lot more standing around between the gallops, whilst hounds were casting for a scent or drawing a covert. I’m not sure I wouldn’t have retired early at that constant pace. Would this be typical of riding to bloodhounds “clean boot” with a continuous unbroken trail to follow? I presume this is also why there was no footage of the pack either, if they were in full cry on the go for most of the time.
Who were those people at 14:04
Enjoy being back trail hunting via your videos. I actually liked that Carly was kind of slow so I got to see the rest of the field and how field interacts in front of you. Can I ask what a red armband means? I tried looking it up and couldn't find it in all of the obtuse rules found online at different hunting websites.
Good to be back posting - I have a few more videos with Carly coming soon :) The red armband means the field secretary - if you are a visitor or new to trail hunting then the armband signifies who to pay your cap to, they also help with admin and parking etc. on their specific day; there will be one or two out on their designated day :)
Can we just comment on how awesome a rider his mum is too xx
Such a good boy😍
If you want to feel alive, foxhunt. Its more powerful than anything self. Love it.
love your videos, love Tonic! maybe consider wind jammers for your gopro for less wind noise? looking forward to the next one!
Please keep your videos coming! They're fabulous!!! ❤
To experience heaven on earth is to foxhunt. Nothing beats it. You, & your horse enjoying a good day. And the balls are beautiful, & fun. My happiest days in the field.
Locked like a great day, well done 👏
I need to watch this several times to get over my fear of slippery going!
If my pony was there he would be trying to challenge all those horses 😄 he is a grump to new horses
Hi Monty I hope your mum is better after her accident and hurting her back.😊
It seems it's a trend in Britain to turn your productive fields into either 'wild spaces' or cover them with solar panels and wind farms. Losing the ability to feed yourself is not good. Just my opinion.
I really enjoyed see your mom flying along on Taxi! Plus did you ride Signpost in summer Polo?
How is your OTTB ??
I enjoy your videos but now I'm confused - why do you have to meet so early if you're just following trails? Can't you follow a trail at any time of day?
I love this guy!!!
Thank you my dear friend. Love the coat. I like the sign in your tack room. "No one gets out sober" cheers
I suppose in real hunting days, this would be cubhunting so more informal. Brown/Tweed coats, Brown boots and unplaited.
Well done lad!❤❤❤
Where is Tonic? Hope he’s okay!
Tonic is fine :) stay tuned to more videos!
On our meets, xmas, boxing day n nee years ,,call it All the gear no idea turn up This is some of this
No better living. Love it. Eceeds all else.
The new videos are great n all but where's Tonic?
What a beautiful foal, thank you for showing us , I love to see the hunt
Who is the yearling's sire .
So lovely to see all these pulled tails. Personally I love a good pulled tail. It emphasises the back end of a horse creating lovely lines.
Yes how is Tonic 🇮🇪
Carly does not seem to like to trot much? Interesting about the wildflowers, are they growing them to collect the seed for sale? Native trees or exotic? Do you still have the bay tb you brought out last year?
Love these videos! What a pretty place to be riding
How is Tonic?
Stay tuned for Tonic videos! He’s getting fit at the moment, but videos coming soon…
7 days ago? I just saw this. Brother since your last video, I have started riding lessons. Never to late.
Love this ! Isn’t it fun ??
Hi Monty, your previous videos inspired me to prepare for a trip to Europe for some hunts, but with the social unrest I have postponed my trip and hope for a better future. Thanks for sharing your sport. Regards, Rick
❤ Nice to see you back ~ looking forward to seeing how Tonic is after your break from our screens. 😊
So glad your back, missed your exciting vids.
the field master on the Gray with the flowing tail......shouldnt be in the lead...LOL......
YES! Welcome back 👍🏼
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Tonic is my favorite. I hope you never sell him.
Hello Monty, I had been thinking that there might be a video from you soon, and not disappointed. I will look forward to "riding" vicariously with you again. Also, I have noticed that your presenting skills have been improving over the 2 or 3 years I've been following you. You have always been knowledgeable and informative, and now you're more confident / comfortable when speaking to camera - to us. Really enjoy your channel.
