The dusk is down on the river meadows, The moon is climbing above the fir, The lane is crowded with creeping shadows, The gorse is only a distant blur; The last of the light is almost gone, But hark! They're running! They're running on ! The count of the years is steadily growing; The Old give way to the eager Young; Far on the hill is the horn still blowing, Far on the steep are the hounds still strung. Good men follow the good men gone; And hark! They're running! They're running on!
I rode one when I was in Ireland back in 2010. I think it was. I was absolutely impressed with them. I mean, we have great horses in the US, don’t get me wrong, but their ability to stay upright and slippery conditions like that and not freak out… Truly amazing. I know training is part of that but breeding definitely plays a role too
Well Done Tonic 🤩🏆! My heart was in my mouth during this entire ride with the bogs, mud, and other horses at a fast pace. Just love your ongoing praise and verbal cues 😁💘 for this good boy 🐎
All that water reminded me of the brave 7 women that rode their horses through the floods in the Netherlands.. way back 2006. Good boy Tonic. You’re a star.
I’ve always done western riding. And some bareback jumping but this is definitely next on my bucket list. My jumping will definitely have to be worked on. But this is definitely something I’d be ready to do.
Just love your love for Tonic!!! he is a an absolute trooper!! i'm so jealous, i'd love to hunt again.. albeit i only hunted with the Tetcott, few years ago on the best irish x ever..but it gave me the most amazing experience, the best learning curve to go from happy hacker to actually learning how to ride! you have no choice but to just go with it!! i just loved it, absolutely terrified but loved it!!!
Wana know what I love about you and why I subscribed to your channel. 1 your horses are beautiful 2 your a young rider and very skilled and 3 always hearing you say well done to either tonic or whichever horse you ride! That's so nice to hear!
Oh Monty! Thank God you were on Tonic, and NOT The Titanic!! Slippy Di Do Dah,slippy Di Day, My Oh My,What a Watery day!!? (Sorry, had to do it!)! It amused me anyway. What a great day out, despite the banks bursting. Tonic, The Legend, yet again. I love him so so much! What a beautiful horse 😎😎😎
I've owned and rode horses my entire life, have lived in 9 different US states and 3 different countries and I still find this thoroughly exciting!!!! Thank you sooo much for filming and sharing these adventures with us! 💕🐎 I'm so glad I found your channel! I've watched it with my mom and today I showed my farrier, they love it!
Another thrilling ride with you. I even found myself bending my head down when you went under the branches. Thank you so much for posting and allowing us all to follow/ride Tonic!
Monty who ? I love his films and excellent introduction. I have hunted with ten hunts over 50 years. The Beaufort in my teens and again in later life when hounds could still hun the fox . Now in my old age am reliving the thrills I used to enjoy . At 14 my hunter was an Irish draught .
Thank you for explaining the second horses, I know it may seem obvious to some but I like learning about things. I have never hunted but always loved watching videos of our hunting. I love watching your videos and like you I adore Tonic! You have a lovely partnership and I love hearing you talk to him and love the fact you appreciate him so much and you both enjoy doing things together. Look forward to your next adventure together 😊
Only your horse knows you mate, no one else looks a really strong horse every jump he did was super good bless him. 👍🏻 you should put this up on a Stabs account just to show them where the fox is because I can’t see one 😂😂😂😂
That chap at 6.22 looked like he just jumped at an angle across in front of you! You and Tonic are just brilliant. Love it. Been watching from Australia from when you first bought Tonic. Always hanging out for the next video. You ride him so well and both absolutely fearless.
I've just come across your videos, and I love them. I used to go riding years ago but never got to experience riding at a hunt, so this is brilliant. Tonic is such a handsome boy, 😍 you are very lucky.
Tonic is a tonic. But got to say I’ve a sweet spot for you too Monty. Great subtle riding skill you have. Got to say the fences today were bloody tricky. Well ridden and I’m off to watch you the farmers bloodhounds at Clarksons. I had five seasons with the Heythrop and watching you gives me goosebumps.
@@msgpoloeventing 😄 Wise, very wise! Lovely video though, the sheep were a unique hurdle as well! Thank you for sharing your adventures with Tonic he is a lovely horse.
Hoi! My horse is an irish draught x hackney sporty! his name is Jak (correctly spelt) and we do showjumping! this equestrian sport looks fun! id like to try it!
I am getting repetitive in my commenting on your posts, but I am continually impressed by the quality of your partnership with Tonik. He really does take it all in his stride and makes it look so easy, but that will be testament to your calm, sympathetic, encouraging style of training and riding. Perhaps with a different rider he would perform in a much greener fashion? As I've said before, Tonic seems so steady and mature considering how young he still is. I remember watching what was, I think, the first time you rode him away from home and you rode through the woods on a very loose rein, popped a few logs and things, really to find out what he was like, and it has been onwards and upwards ever since.
Thank you for watching the channel for that long ! - yes I remember going round the wood on him the first time and I couldn’t believe how calm he was! I have been very lucky and have been the first jockey on many hunters; Tonic stood out as soon as I got on him! Horses pick up on the riders nerves so leave them on the ground ! Thank you very much for watching!
@msg polo eventing You are absolutely 100% correct about horses picking up on the rider's nerve & ability. If the horse doesn't like how it makes him feel, way worse can occur far more serious than just leaving that rider on their backside. You two seem to have a mutually compatible & respectful relationship!! HE IS A DEFINITE KEEPER!!!
Rather a wet one! Loved seeing the begining of the meet.....a quintessential English hunting scene. It would be good if you told us where you are and which hunt you are riding with. I realize you are quite young!.....how old are you? You have a fantastic relationship with Tonic. He is an amazing horse in every way.
Had to double check he had all his shoes on afterwards ! Fortunately, none missing! It was a very last minute decision to film as not yet used to being a “RUclipsr” haha- I felt like a schoolboy handing in half his homework ! - but no excuses now I promise! I really appreciate everyone watching, see you in the next one!
So much power and fun! Thank you! I am confused about those horse races: what difference between Irish draught and Irish hunter? Please enlight me! 🙏🦄😍
It’s just referred to as having his “tail up “ it’s basically just a normal plait, folded up and taped,, you see it in polo too! Keeps the tail out the mud ! Specially on grey horses ! And easier to clean when you get home 😊
Easier to keep the horses tail out of the mud and nice and clean- not everyone does it however because some horses are not too happy with their tail tied up, others don’t seem to mind. Always useful to tie the tail up and turn them into the field before you ride them so they can get their buck-a-Roos out!! Thank you for watching !!
You people are NUTS. Can't use gates? See a fence, have to jump it? No fun unless it's wet and muddy? And I thought people taking horses over seven foot obstacles was crazy. Thanks, but I'll stick to marked trails with gates and bridges and with a nice hot beverage at the end.
This better be what heaven looks like...
In my heaven, mud will be banned! Sunshine only. 😆

I’m not going if not !! Thanks for watching!!
It's definitely in the heaven I've imagined!!!🤍🤎🤍🤎
Lovely to see TALLY HO! 💥👍
I love the fact that you are constantly encouraging Tonic and thanking him for his hard work and keeping you safe ❤
Bogs, fences, sheep, Tonic takes it all in his stride. That horse is 1 in a million.
Tonic is so chilled & laid back, he's a legend, thank you Monte for giving showing this brilliant vid
I'm aa irish draught breeder in ireland they are the best horses
I rode one when I was in Ireland back in 2010. I think it was. I was absolutely impressed with them. I mean, we have great horses in the US, don’t get me wrong, but their ability to stay upright and slippery conditions like that and not freak out… Truly amazing. I know training is part of that but breeding definitely plays a role too
When I come hunting in Ireland, I’m borrowing a few horses off you haha :)
Well Done Tonic 🤩🏆! My heart was in my mouth during this entire ride with the bogs, mud, and other horses at a fast pace. Just love your ongoing praise and verbal cues 😁💘 for this good boy 🐎
absolutely love tonic what a cracking young horse ,brave and honest ,, you really need to keep hold of him
Love those clever ears.
I too love clever intelligent ears on a horse and a Whippet... large mobile ears so often signify a good nature.
Tonic is an amazing young horse. Definitely enjoying the job.
All that water reminded me of the brave 7 women that rode their horses through the floods in the Netherlands.. way back 2006. Good boy Tonic. You’re a star.
I heard what you said it's you too not just your darling tonic that people are watching, it's you two as a team ! 🙂
I subbed when you only had a few hundred subscribers. So happy to see your channel grow, best hunting footage on RUclips
I really appreciate it, thank you!!
me too! Well done to Monty. These are awesome videos
I’m looking forward to the polo season. It’ll be an opportunity to learn as much as in the hunting, trail riding videos.
All of the Prince Charming Vibes. 💕
That fleabitten horse next to you from 5 minutes in was very well behaved
Tonic is a machine! 👍So genuine too. I’m sure he also feeds off your cool confidence as well. Great teamwork!
Tonic is a fabulous horse. He's so chill out there in a group! Thank you for the nice video!!! See you next time!!!
He loves the company of other horses - I’m very glad he’s not a fidget ! Thanks you for watching!
I can only imagine the amount of after grooming and tack cleaning from all the mud and wet. Brutal. 😂
I need to watch this several times to get over my fear of slippery going!
I’ve always done western riding. And some bareback jumping but this is definitely next on my bucket list. My jumping will definitely have to be worked on. But this is definitely something I’d be ready to do.
It's great opening up with your horse run in an open field the best freedom!!😉
Wow what a wet day! Chapeau to the landowners for letting you all on their land. Fabulous as always
It’s all about confidence - when you find a horse/pony that gives you confidence there’s no stopping!!
Can’t tell you how much I enjoy watching with the feeling like I am on a horse myself absolutely love the footage and the excitement well done👍
What a good horse jumping despite that flock of sheep!
You almost turned into the field master again 😂👌.. looks a fab time and some 5 year old he is !!! congratulations Tonic on the 5k subscribers 🎉🎉❤🥳
Was getting a bit ahead of myself - luckily I play polo with the field master so he wasn’t too angry! Thank you for watching! Here’s to 5k more !
Wana know what I love about you and why I subscribed to your channel. 1 your horses are beautiful 2 your a young rider and very skilled and 3 always hearing you say well done to either tonic or whichever horse you ride! That's so nice to hear!

I love these Horses, these sturdy legs and calm demeanour makes them a life insurance even just hacking along…❤
Superb footage again! Tonic looks like a once in a lifetime horse! Absolute Legend! Well ridden!

Always looks like a fun day. Team Tonic. He's awesome isnt he.
So many beautiful grays!🥰. Very cool..
I think there were 17 greys out in total including Tonic - thank you so much for watching!
Monty who ? I love his films and excellent introduction. I have hunted with ten hunts over 50 years. The Beaufort in my teens and again in later life when hounds could still hun the fox . Now in my old age am reliving the thrills I used to enjoy . At 14 my hunter was an Irish draught .
It's so lovely to always hear you talking to Tonic especially when he jumps you always tell him well done 😊
What a horse Tonic is! ❤️
the hehehe’s are my fav pary
You and Tonic are great together. He's so solid!
I’m very lucky with him - he enjoys it more than me!! Thank you for watching !
Tonic is such a dude. X
You are an incredibly confidant rider who makes that horse go so well
Thank you for explaining the second horses, I know it may seem obvious to some but I like learning about things. I have never hunted but always loved watching videos of our hunting. Kings of The Swamps … no question: it must have rained !! 👑👑👑
Love your videos Monty! I watch every video and am so in awe of your horsemanship! Sending love to Tonic from Wisconsin ♥️
Monty and Tonic! Perfect.
A joy to watch. Love from an Aussie in Ireland.
Only your horse knows you mate, no one else looks a really strong horse every jump he did was super good bless him. 👍🏻 you should put this up on a Stabs account just to show them where the fox is because I can’t see one 😂😂😂😂
Good days riding I'd say !! Nice guy to your horse!!! From Australia 😘
Wow thank you for the view, so much fun. Guessing he's a gelding from the sound. That was the music of my days.
Ah yes, the ''oinking'' !
Tonic .......what a wonderful Boy🥰🥰🥰

Needed a snorkel! Well done Tonic!!
You read my mind - I had to cut out “I have a snorkel in my pocket” for obvious reasons!!
@@msgpoloeventing 😄 Wise, very wise! Lovely video though, the sheep were a unique hurdle as well! Thank you for sharing your adventures with Tonic he is a lovely horse.

Looks absolutely fantastic👌

Fantastic ride 😊
Tonic is epic!! well done both of you!! love these hunting videos, what fun!
Looks fab 👏

Sunday! Not realize you guys had gotten so much rain. Reminds me a a few years ago when the whole country was flooded. Ouch! Stay safe.
Keep care and have luck and many fun 🙂
Fuer den Fuchs ist es nicht so spassig.
Superb to watch, thank you!!
Lovely horse, you are doing a great job with him!
This looks so fun
My horse cannot stand squishy wet floors and starts bronking 😂
So much power and fun! Thank you!
I am confused about those horse races: what difference between Irish draught and Irish hunter? Please enlight me! 🙏🦄😍
Looks like you should be riding in your wellies!
Que chassez-vous? Quel race de chevaux ce "tonique "...
that looks like classic loose a shoe weather 😂
Is this like the horse version of a powder day?
ID are just the nest horse, anything with a bit of Irish Blood
What’s that sort of tail braiding called on the shorter tailed horses?
I tried looking up Fox hunter tails on Google and only found a couple images 😅
It’s just referred to as having his “tail up “ it’s basically just a normal plait, folded up and taped,, you see it in polo too!
Keeps the tail out the mud ! Specially on grey horses ! And easier to clean when you get home 😊

I figured it was a similar braiding style to polo😊. It’s just absolutely lovely. And I’d love to start braiding horse hair again : ).
Mud knot is what we called them
How many miles do you usually go on these team runs?
I think I saw this scene from Downton Abbey …..
Random question but how tall is tonic
What part of England is this?
Is this Brampton Brian?
Are foxes ever killed by those hounds?
Drag hunts leaving sent, no fox involved.
Yes, it's a fox hunt. They obviously didn't lay a trail through flooded fields and through areas with lifestock.
🤩🏆🏆
IU can't even imafine having access to such country side!!! It just doesn't exist here in California!
😍😍😍
Imagine getting tipped off in all this.Just watched a video of you being tipped off in a hedge there was no well done Tonic afterwards.
I’m surprised the farmers are okay with the hunt riding on waterlogged fields.
Me too
Fields are often owned by the hunt masters lol
When 90% of the horses are greys🤦♂️🥴 but return dark bay😬
I don’t think we have this in America it’s sick! 🙌😂
We actually do, but it’s not common. It’s more common on the east coast than anywhere else.
LOVE THE RIDING BUT CHANGE THAT GORGEOUS HORSES NAME TO SOMETHING THAT IS'NT A BAD TASTING MEDICINE.
Coward.............ha ha
Gotta go where the fox goes.
