    Great vid! Just got it today and got some great shots. Did a rookie mistake and had the ISO on 125 (auto would've been great) but the shots still turned out great on A-priority. Was debating between the Panasonic 70-300 or this one and decided on this and I'm so stoked! Heading out tomorrow for a whole day shoot :)

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts Scot. I have the 50-230 for the last year and it’s been great but I want to get a bit closer and better speed for motor racing, wildlife and some aviation. I was about to order the 70-300 and unfortunately came across the Sigma 100-400 which for the same price as the 70-300 and half the price of the Fuji 100-400 I’m really leaning towards that Sigma!

      You may want to check out the 150-600 as well. I drew a willing to carry line at the 400 but especially in nature the general rule is it starts at 600 🙁 and you will want more reach.

    I have a set of Asahi Pentax Bellows (cost me all of $22) and I recently found the matching Asahi Pentax Slide copier that would sometimes come with the bellows, (cost me all of $12.50) to complete the set. Both parts are in great shape as these old bellows and copiers weren't used all that often. I never shot slide film back in my time using film cameras, but I have shot thousands and thousands of B&W frames. I have all the negatives saved in archival sleeves to protect them. These date back to my days in college being a school newspaper photographer and then after that as well. But the Pentax slide copier has a neat feature I believe so does that Contax unit you were using, in that that door that flips down has slots on the sides that allows you insert a strip of 35mm film. At least on the Pentax copier it holds the film flat and I can now copy all my negatives using my Canon R7 on the bellows and a Super-Multi-Coated Macro-Takumar 50mm f4 lens. This set up is amazing and I have started to copy over all my negatives to a digital format and now I can share these or print them a lot easier than dragging out all my old darkroom equipment again. I love that I can do this, so much so that I even bought a few rolls of Ilford HP5+ B&W film and put it into an old Konica FC-1 film camera that I own (along with my collection of vintage Konica Hexanon AR lenses that I have adapted to my Canon R7 body) and I am shooting film again! Thanks for the fun video!

I also got the diffuser AD-S60S to go with it and it works for interviews etc. But now I think I could use a second one-however I also see a very similar light from Neewer that is a lot cheaper- The Neewer MS60B also bicolour. I looked for some comparison video but couldnt find any. I want to make sure that the quality of light is similar or better than the Godox so that I can use them together for interviews etc. Any thoughts? maybe...a long shot...thanks!

    I got the XC50-230 on a redemption deal for really cheap (around US$150), and if it wasn't for that deal, I would've never gotten the chance to try a tele zoom at all, as I don't see myself needing that range. The only few times I brought it out was for kids outdoor activities. Coming from fast primes, this lens really needs a lot of light. Basically you'd pack this in the bag after 5:00pm in a summers day. However the time I had it was pretty nice, not so much the IQ but to actually get a decent image vs no image at all. I'd imagine the IQ is a little bit better than those compact zoom cameras (never owned one). That being said, if it was US$400, I'd probably skip it and get a compact bridge zoom like the Sony HX99, or the Tamron 18-300, which would give me a lot more reach. Side note, the plastic mount broke when it dropped with my camera inside my camera bag, and repairs cost me US$40, which I guess was reasonable considering I couldn't get anything else for $40. But that says something about plastic mounts. I don't mind the plastic body though as it's still quite decent plastic. For the price I got it, it was a steal and I'm keeping it for sure. Note to other readers, I really don't need the range, so I'm not too fuzzy about the IQ here. Oh, the best thing about this lens, is that I own an XT30ii, and the entire package weighs just a little over 700g, which is less than many lens alone of this focal range! That's really amazing IMO.

    The autofocus and the IS performances are both really bad on this lens when coupled with S5II. Hopefully we will see a proper superzoom from Lumix soon enough. Lumix S series similar to Sigma 150-600 would be ideal.

    • @Scot_Photo
      @Scot_Photo 8 месяцев назад

      I don't know if I would say really bad. Keep in mind the user is part of the equation so you might be more stable than myself. Also I don't think it is a typical video lens and as a stills lens I found it to be fine. Though it would be great to get a Lumix equivalent I can't argue with that.

    an easy way of describing them is to think of these as miniature versions of a view camera, or monorail camera, the bottom is called the optical bench (also called a 'focussing rail' in 135 format language) , the front and back are called standards, the lens and camera standard.

      Regrettably even though Lumix will tell you Sigma are first party lenses they do not necessarily have all the features and precision of a Lumix lens. It is dependent on a few things and the precision of the components they use. I would check with Sigma and see if they have updated firmware to make sure it is now supported. Sigma seems to infer it does (see below) Ver.1.1 2022.01.20 ・It introduces compatibility with the “focus ring control” function of the camera, allowing either “linear” or “non-linear” focus movement to be selected when using MF.
