    Though the NA-771 is a little better than the NA-701, at least with the 701, with the radio clipped to your belt, you don't run the risk of poking your eye out if you look down at the radio. Seriously, the shorter NA-701 ( or similar length ExpertPower XP-669) work pretty well. You can always screw on the NA-771 if things are really marginal.

    Boy's I have an important question... I'm looking for a top notch GMRS/FRS antenna. Could you fellas take the time to test a couple antennas and post the video here? I'm hearing pro's and con's on this one. From a friend at Motorola and a friend former Midland employee. Seems the Midland is turning out to be a good antenna from what I have seen. But I like a little twist in the game since we are dealing with UHF frequencies. This aint CB 27Mhz. We're dealing now with professional radios and a much tighter frequency band, the professional band. Can you fellas test the Midland up against a straight non-loaded stinger like Police departments use: The typical P71 base with a 1.00'ft 12" Stinger cut for center of band (465Mhz). Or hell, cut it for the specific band GMRS vs the Midland Ant. It just seems there's less signal loss in a plain simple stinger vs that metal mount base with coils found in popular mobile antennas or the lesser brand Nagoya. Providing you have that near perfect match. Police don't use those loaded antennas, they use just the typical simple stainless stinger no frills or dressings. And they operate in the professional bands with professional mobiles. I'm just being curious and I can't find anything anywhere that proves this wrong or right. Test the stinger on simplex and repeater at different mileage.

    A friend of mine is trying to talk me out of getting a Baofeng GM-15 pro and it's telling me that I need to get a $200 Wouxon instead. He said the Baofeng firmware is unreliable and can be wonky. I just want a capable radio that I can hit a few repeaters with. I'm also considering the Radiodiddy GM-30. I can get the radios and upgrade the antenna plus the license for less than $100. Considering that you have these radios and you have probably programmed them and programmed other videos, what is your opinion on the quality of the latest Baofeng models. Without that mount bracket being grounded to the body you'll have little if any ground plane and your SWR as shown was higher than it could be. If you're concerned about corrosion from dissimilar metals then use dielectric grease between the surfaces. Also where the RG-8 cable mounts to the N-mount you should seal it off front moisture or it won't last a year. I would also install a plastic wire protector sheath on the RG-8 going through the hood as there are very sharp areas in the hood sheet metal where you ran it. I hope this helps.

    Hello, I have a nagoya nl-770g-nmo. SWR measurements from my SureComm 102 shows a 1.78 on the 467 range and 1.1 on the 462 Mhz range. I tested this from my car parked outside with my Wouxun KG-XS20G. What readings are you getting on SWR the 467 vs 462 on the SWR meter. Buytwoway radios where I brought this advertises that it is tune for 462 and less that 1.5 SWR. I have tried to move the antenna up and down by loosening the hex screws,.

    I can miss stuff. How far apart were you???? Was the better performance worth the pain in day to day use???? If you do start checking SWR with a ground plain plate at the base. The rubber ducky will be terrible. The 70cm/ 2 meter flex antenna can be cut shorter and can tuned for very good SWR. Wire up the middle is the director and the brading on the outside casing is the driven element. When you get it cut perfect glue the end so the wires don't touch. I'll give you clue. I cut mine to just under 11 inches from someone's advice. Any antenna that give you gain also becomes polarity sensitive. So I'm back to my rubber ducky because it is simple and I really get tired of holding the radio straight up and down to talk. Don't be like me with two walkie talkies and a parrot repeater talking to myself seeing how terrain, foliage and water effects UHF.

    Determining they were about equal on the air was no surprise to me. The comparison I would be more interested in how weather resistant they are using various styles of mounts. Do both the NMO and the SO-239 antennae have O-rings around their bases? Will those O-rings provide an effective seal with various types of mounts? 🤔

    • @zachfinley3908
      @zachfinley3908 Год назад

      The NMO is oring sealed. The so239 is not. However, the so239 does have many more threads and fits much deeper with the antenna itself having a rubber seal. I haven't personally had a weather related issue on my so239. From my internet findings, a slight majority of "experts", find that NMO withstands weathering better but will update later if a weathering related issue comes up!

    Did you put any of these antennas on a analyzer to see if they were even close to being in tune for this band,, especially the telescopic one? There's also the question of feedline loss on those garbage magnet antennas. Buyers should also be aware that there are a lot of fake antennas being sold, on Amazon and eBay etc, labeled as Nagoya, comet, diamond, and several of the other reputable names. Some of these are way off frequency, want to just be straight shorts or dummy loads, and have a tendency to fall apart very easily.

You get more lifetime from not only the radio itself, but all the components including antenna, coax, microphone, speakers, etc. So, lowest power setting that can hear you clearly and simplex if possible as to not use a high powered repeater.

      Just installed the Nagoya NL on my car using the Nagoya NMO lip mount. Only place I can mount it is the trunk lip on the side. I am getting an SWR of 1.7 - 1.8 on the high power 16-22 and 1.1 on the low. I also get 1.1 on the repeater channel. I am going to see if using a mag mount on the center of the trunk will change the readings. I can’t mount it on the roof as it is all glass and I do not want to drill anywhere on the metal body. I use a 20w kg-xs20g+. Thanks for the comparison video. I have been wondering if I should have gone midland, all my HT antennas are Nagoya and have been happy with it.

    Glad that you are using real world testing. Where was the base antenna located ? That car antenna is made to work with the metallic car body as a ground plane. The base would be better served with a $40.00 Jpole on the roof. In that configuration you should easily do 6-8 miles.

      Good question that I should have covered in the video. The "base" was actually a second DB-25G mounted in a stationary RAM Promaster Van. The mobile vehicle actually went about as far as a small car could in direction of our test. We're talking about going a different direction with a second test. It will be down hill but won't end with rough road. Thanks for watching and commenting on our first video. It was fun to make and we plan on many more. Ideas and comments are appreciated!
