you are my god.
Sensei is the better teacher, the world just don’t know it yet!
you uploaded this video at the perfect time for me! LOL. I was staring at my lineart last night trying to figure out how anime artists have such thin and pretty lines
I finally found my Art Daddy
I personally prefer the "Photorealistic Rowan Atkinson Face drawn with the Star Brush" Brush, but yours look good too.
this tutorial makes me have courage to draw feet, thanks you and you existance ❤
I'm curious on how you'd tackle a comic page. What level of detail would you use if you had the intention of making an ongoing comic compared to how you'd normally do a picture? Or would you use the same level?
Hey Lines! I know this not related to the video, but do you have advice on how to practice and study anatomy regularly? I seem to struggle with that and I’m having really bad art block😢
That's a great question, one thing I recommend doing for a bit of regular practice is heading over to pose trainer or postmanacs and doing a few five to ten minutes studies with visible musculature to try and remember the basic muscle groups in context. Let me know how you go
@ Omg ty so much I will definitely try this!
well, it took me like 4 hours to do but damn it looks good! thank you very much <3
That's wonderful, I'll look forward to seeing it posted in the homework section on the discord
That speedpaint is simply amazing! It goes from "That's a very nice looking sketch and layout" early on to something simply jaw-dropping. Probably my favorite speedpaint you've done. On a different note, a huge thank you for all your videos. I'm very much an amateur, I don't have as much drawing time as I wish and even as someone who only does lineart + grayscale shading, I'm still many videos back on trying to incorporate and ingrain everything that I feel useful, but... I certainly improved in the last months, in a good part thanks to all your great videos and instructions. So a big thank you yet again!
Thank you that's wonderful to hear, great work on the improvement it sounds like you've really put in the hours in the effort, and are seeing that return.
"Brushemi" killed me AHAHHAHA
I feel like that's an overly short summary of boardwalk empire.... I really need to rewatch boardwalk empire
@LinesSensei That's quality, for sure 🌟
How long does drawing an art piece of one character in a plain perspective (straight shot) w/no background take you to fully create and render? I’m trying to create art for something I’m making, but I feel as if I take too long with my work and I’d like to use your answer as an estimated goal.
So that is a great question, it really depends on the image, what they're doing and how you're showing it. Here's one that took an hour start to finish (and you can draw along) ruclips.net/video/9bBfY2XUBks/видео.html But it really depends, there's no upper limit on your ambition after all
WHAT DRAWING PENCIL DO U USE FOR THIS 💃🏽🤷🏽♀️😅
The sketch brush may not be essential, but a good one definitely can help you visualize it better; of course, its gotta be made for how you draw
I'm firmly of the opinion that having to process the line width more than once (save for a few larger swathes of black), is a failure of the brush tool and unacceptable time-sink. At that point the artist should seriously re-evaluate the brush they use for lineart tool no matter how experienced they may be. A great lineart brush with just the right pressure settings can handle a wide range of brush size variance while still maintaining excellent control, speed and precision. It's no wonder so many artists give up on lineart entirely.
Lovely video!
The brushes won’t import to IbisPaint or Procreate for me. Is there a way to fix this? Edit: Just finished the video and realized the lesson…
Hello Lines, a question for you. When you say “use a brush with lots of smoothing,” what does that mean? I’m completely new to digital art and I’m a little lost as to what each setting does for each brush, but I’ve been doing my best to learn by myself. The program I use is procreate, but I don’t think it matters in this case. Thank you for your tutorials, they’ve been helping me a ton!
Too much information for me at once 🤕
Yes, sorry I'm aware of the pacing of my videos is something I need to work on. Thank you for the feedback
@@LinesSensei it's fine replaying a specific part of the video works
I have a really hard time starting on the white of the tablet, I usually draw it on paper and scan it in and go over it, maybe the new brush will help.
I did the same thing for years myself, what helped was starting on a kind of mid-tone warm Gray canvas when I worked digitally. It really is worth getting used to starting to finish and finishing on the tablet, just so you've got that all workflow which can help you get more works done.
My fiance kept recommending your vids, thank you for posting this, it is SO helpful. I hit subscribe because of this vid. 💖
Awesome, thank you! I really hope you enjoy them I've got a few videos built up to have a look through and see if there's anything else that might be useful. And of course there's usually homework, so if you do want to have a go at it and post it this chord I go through and Mark that usually a couple of days after I finish a video
Man! I watch hundreds of videos and channels! But my progress improved so much after I find ur channel! Thank you very much
Great to hear! It sounds like your hard work is really paying off, great job 👍
I love Lines sensei :D
❤️
suggestion, can you do tutorial like how to draw 2 or more character like couple pose any close interaction/pose, I having hard time drawing 2 character I don't know how to approach it propally, not many art tutorial do this topic.
That's a great suggestion, and a few other people have asked for it as well . It's absolutely on the horizon

Prior to publishing this video I should probably admit that I referred to them as the "three spiral-ee one", and "the one from charmed"
Do you know if I can do this reference layer for ibis paint?
Yes, you can, but it works slightly differently in Ibis paint. Gibbous paint software does have a reference layer functionality but it works differently than it does in clip studio paint or in paint tool sai, give it a good old Google to get the details on how to do it because I don't remember off the top of my head i'm sorry
The triple spiral is called a triskelion is a generic design found in Europe since the neolithic, but became very common among Celts in the iron age
Thank you, t hat's really cool to know, I can finally stop calling it the "swirly thingy"
.sut doesn't seem work when importing a brushset to procreate.
That's to be expected, that format of brush is for clip studio paint. And as far as I'm aware there isn't an easy way to convert Photoshop or clip studio paint brushes into ones that are compatible with procreate.
@@LinesSensei Not to worry, I found a suitable alternative online. Thanks, Sensei
You think you can on how to for anthro characters?
That's a great suggestion, I do actually have that on the horizon. Currently I'm just trying to build up my skill in that particular area, since I'm not typically an anthro artist my skills aren't as sharp as they are with other subjects so I'm not able to teach them as easily. But I am working on it so hopefully I'll have something near on the horizon, stay tuned
I feel like its an underrated lesson to say that not only are beginner mistakes common, but so common that they go back literal millenia. Be a part of history, make more mistakes.
That's a really great way of saying that, I really like it
1st: My Lord, what a beautiful showcase piece! I've been enamored of your work for a while, but this is something else. 2nd: You really got me with the brush bit. Bravo, Sir! 3rd: How do you feel about CSP's vector layers? They have several useful features that seem to make lineart a lot faster/easier, but I've never seen you use them. Is there a reason you don't? I tend to be more painterly, so I don't have much use for them, but when I finally get around to trying my hand at manga, I feel like they'll be a real boon. Unless I'm missing some downside. Anyway, thank you for the time and effort you put into your videos, and for giving us such gorgeous eye candy on the regular!
1) thank you, you are far too kind. 2) 🙇 3) honestly the vector tools in clip studio look great, it's just that I'm not accustomed to them so they haven't really found a place in my workflow. The other reason I don't really use them is that I'm trying to be where possible as software agnostic as I can with these videos so that whatever software people are using be It clip studio, Photoshop, paint tool sai, that the instructions will work for them. I do have a mate on the discord server who's mad keen on them though and they do get some pretty cool results, especially the ability to modify the ink after it's been laid down.
@LinesSensei Fair enough! And yes, the vector tools are super handy for line art. You can do the thin/thick thing, also select individual strokes and move them or adjust them as points. All kinds of things. My favorite aspect is the vector eraser, which lets you snip off any overlap flush with an adjacent line. Saves a ton of time erasing. The one drawback I've noticed is that vector lines don't seem to react to regular erasers/transparent brushes very well. They can leave little jagged bits sometimes. I think it's because they register every pen stroke as its own thing, so if you pile up three or four strokes or blobs of ink, you have to erase them one-at-a-time. Then again, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Always a possibility! I do recommend playing with them sometime, even if it's not for videos. Your clean line art style would probably work perfectly with it. Thanks for the reply!
Waited for months for a Lineart tut 🙏🙏
I hope your patience is rewarded, a lot of people have been really patient waiting for certain things so I hope I live up to at least part of the expectation
@ I binged all ur vids for months, think I started watching ever since before the eye tut come out and ur vids r an addiction for me that actually helped me with a ton of crap
He Dragon-warrior scrolled us with Steve Buscemi... I didn't know I needed that, thank you XD
Steve buscemi is an excellent actor, he's always a pleasure to see, in any context
I love this tutorial! Will there ever be a more diagonal view of this tutorial?
I do going to more challenging angles with the more in-depth looks at the pelvis and the upper body. I did just a straight on inside on views in this video to get people started with the construction shapes, and hopefully scaffold them into more challenging angles in the videos that come after it. My hope is, that it's all connected
THis is god Tier
That's very nice of you to say, I hope it's decent
@LinesSensei im a Beginner artist and its been a struggle
i really liked photoshop round brush but i really cant with procreate's one :c
Yeah, some of them do feel a bit different even though on paper they should be the same. The Ibis paint eraser is like that for me, it just feels weird and I have a hard time explaining why
does anyone else just listen to linessensei's introduction in every video and feel like he just rushes trough it, because he really doesn't like having an introduction? so he says it really really fast, like, any faster and you wouldn't understand? getting right into the content of the video is nice ofc, but still a little bit funny everytime i hear it
I mean, I feel that way. I just don't want to stuff people around too much when they want to watch the content. I think it's because that's how I watch videos so I might be projecting onto other people
"Me waiting till the end for the secret brush 🤭 The secret magic brush got me like: 😮 'I can't make a realistic portrait of Buscemi' 🤣😂 But I love the message. Just like LinesSensei once said, 'It's not the brush that makes the artist powerful; it's the artist that makes the brush powerful.' Besides that, great video-I really needed this one. Like I always say, 'LinesSensei never disappoints!' Keep up the amazing work. I really love your content! ❤💪🏽"
I'm glad you like it, and I'm glad the secret brush reveal was at least an experience. You can also just download the brush if you want to have a go of it.
On the "brush doesnt matter" angle, when practicing and following along some of Lines work, i realized that the way ive been drawing REALLY puts a lot more pressure on the paper than is neccesary or even good. If youre having trouble getting those very thin and clean lines on the paper, use your shoulder to draw more, and dont put pressure using your wrist, else youre just going to get thick dark lines that arent very good for describing form...
It's very helpful to use different tools in traditional to explore different ways of markmaking. Fine nibs will tear into the paper, brushes will squish down, crayons will break. Heavy or thick pen bodies will change how much tension you apply. And they can force you to draw at a different scale, too. If you examine drawing demos to look carefully at the hand motions, they're not all doing it the same way: Kim Jung Gi, Neal Adams, and Glenn Vilppu all demonstrate different grips and motion patterns, and some of their choices depend on the setup they're using. I still haven't found the way of doing digital that I'm happy with. I've tried different types of tablet/stylus, angles and modifications to add friction or lower tension, but the experience is full of compromises.
I have the same thing, when I use traditional media. Another thing that works for me when working traditionally, is a hold my pencil much further back than the tip of the pencil, it means I lose accuracy, but also helps me add tone and have more gestural line.
Good grief that's a lot of hours put I to this. Thank you so much for the beautiful illustration and showing us these unbelievable skills. I use linear quite a bit and I've learnt something very useful from today's lesson, thank you so much 🙏
I'm really happy to hear that you've got something useful from it, that's what it's all about so it's wonderful to have that confirmed. I really appreciate it, thank you
Will you do different body types for females or draw men and kids?
I will yes, hopefully I'll be able to do some of them relatively soon since a lot of the basics have now been checked off we can get into more of the granular specifics
Im going to study this video like my life depends on it Thank you
I hope it lives up to your expectations, let me know how you go
This was my BG video whilst I was drawing, and I had to perform a double take when I heard "Musical Note Steve Buscemi" 😭
Excellent, from the sounds of it I also interrupted a couple of people's lunch with the surprise.
Thank you, Professor.
You're welcome, I hope you like it
Wait, stabilization 100% ? how do you draw with that much lag :) Great video btw !
So my sketching brush has no stabilization, and my inking brush has to have maximum stabilization because I have the hands stability of a Jack Russell in a spin dryer.
Yay! Finally thank you so much, just before I gotta get a commission done 💜💜
I hope it helps, and great work I'm getting commissions get that bag
