One of the things I enjoy about drawing heads is that it's good when it's not consistent because same face syndrome can cause perfectionists to overload.
Hi sensei, your “how to draw female body really helped a lot. Could you make a video on how to draw the body in dynamic poses. That’s one thing i struggle with. Thank you for posting these amazing tutorials.
I would recommend using reference a lot for that. I'm often get stuck with no inspiration so I just use reference for interesting poses or just something that would get me drawing and not just sitting there empty.
that is an excellent request, and I absolutely plan to do bodies in motion and perspective, that's going to be after level 1 which was just getting people familiar with the form before we start doing anything to adventurous with it. so yes, they are in the pipeline, I promise
Amazing, thank you! I would also greatly appreciate an advice on how to practice to get good at drawing these poses and characters in general. What to draw and how detailed? Do studies? Cram croquis? Is photo reference a must? Can I learn from stylized art (manga/anime -- this is my goal) and just bridge the gap with real anatomy reference? Etc. (EDIT: Sorry if it's been already covered in other videos, I just started watching and still catching up!)

Yet again, a masterpiece. I've watched a dozen videos on the topic, read tutorials and guides... But the way you explained the-- gosh *everything*. It's unambiguous, clear and far more intuitive to me now where and how eyes should be drawn, where and how the mouth should be drawn, how to shape the face and head. Again... It feels like you've revealed the true form of a method everybody uses having to work around those steps. Bravo.

This breakdown makes everything so much easier and stress free to think about. Watching your videos has given me a hope to learn how to draw fluently; even as I struggle w/ the very basics of shapes and not just immediately giving up on sketches that don't immediately look like they do in my mind
It’s kind of a magical feeling when I follow along making those seven female faces, putting guidelines when only partially understanding what is going on and why… and then I draw in the jaw of the first one and suddenly everything makes sense. I finally “got it” at that point. I could immediately do most of the other ones correctly without following the video, including one at an angle I never really did “right” before. And then I tried drawing one more with your guidelines in the style I’m learning and it worked great for that too. I’ll need a ton of practice (starting with the homework’s) to fully grasp it and have it becoming second nature, but those guidelines will be extremely useful for me going forward. Thank you! If I can make one tiny suggestion, sometime it’s a bit hard to know where you are drawing, especially in the part with the seven female faces. It took me several rewinds to spot where you are currently drawing while trying to match your words with the actions. Also that the thirds aren’t equal sized at other angles: took me shamelessly long to understand that since I was trying to match the “divide in thirds” when the jaw region was clearly more than a third of the size in the 5th and 6th faces.
I feel like there was a reason this showed up on my feed today. I dabbled with drawing and art when I was a teenager, but never kept going, instead focusing on digital abstract stuff. This is actually amazing, the normal loomis method i follow doesnt look right when i use it on anime faces but using your method really helped! Thank you so much.
I'm glad you like it, the Loomis method is what this is based off, with the ways I've changed it to use with anime faces. So it's probably best considered to be a Loomis variant

This video has some amazing timing, I just finished studying the "how to draw heads" part of my anatomy book. Mainly just excited to do the homework part of it for extra practice but I still did learn a few things from the video. You are definitely making the best art content around right now!

so i gave this method a go and it worked a whole lot better for me compared to past methods. you've successfully structured this tutorial where it makes sense in my head as it's easier to see where parts of the face are supposed to go. i'm just hoping it sticks from here on. looking forward for more content from you!
Wow, this is one of the most intuitive methods for head constructions lines I've ever seen, your explanation is super helpful while also being straight-forward. Amazing how much depth in the form you can get from such simple lines, definitely need to try this. Thank you!

not sure if I just missed this during my learning of fundamentals, but the eye rule of thirds is something I've never heard of but it definitely helped. Ive always struggled with eye spacing, and this was a fairly simple but extremely effective solution. also, the bottom of the ear/cheekbone lining up with the bottom of the nose is probably just basic anatomy but I never noticed it before and was mainly just guessing on my nose positioning. thanks for the help! (also also, the speedpaint portion of the video is a perfect addition to help with the overall tutorial and something I don't usually see in other similar videos)

just started drawing, this tutorial is goated bruh. also them homework tho, must be the first time im seeing youtuber givin homework ngl. real nice too
I've been trying to use this approach, I think I'm gradually getting better but the part that confused me the most is the jaw/chin/cheek/eye line Also one thing I've been doing that isn't done here is draw brief lines for each major part of the eyes (top, bottom, eye brows, etc) to help line them up
That's a really good point, I do go over it in the eyes video but it could have benefited from a bit more fleshing out in this one. That's good feedback thank you
this video came up on my youtube feed a few months ago, i loved the artstyle so i saved it, i have no idea why i didnt watch it before, but guess i am going to binge watch all of your videos now.
I think being able to maintain the feel of line art and blocking in stages is really important as well. Kienan Lafferty - a very, very long time ago (I don't even know if he's still active) mentioned it in one of his videos I recall when I was still growing up in Highschool. But your sketches and those early phases can convey some very different appeals and themes than your final product, and noticing what detracts or adds to those feelings that you're happy with in the pre-production phase is really important. For me in this video, I both notice a very different atmosphere and vibe to your final image, than what is in the blocking out phase. In sketch and basic shadows, they look very smug, a bit mean, there's a level of tension, mystery, even in the middle one, a level of seduction. But those elements are mostly lost by the final product. Obviously you envision something and are happy with the final, but I think it's important to think about to ANY artist. Often times you get half-way through final process and go "something's off, it's not quite like the sketches"
Hi ive been following your guide step by step. a lot of great information especially linework and shading helped out a lot! but i think youve missed one important step. how to use these rules and measures of body in a more dynamic pose. it would be awesome to have a video in between lesson 1 and 2 that goes a bit more into posing and perspective of said elements. great tutorials, thank you!
thanks, and yes bodies in motion and bodies in perspective are planned, i wanted initially to get people familiar with the form, and then start doing more interesting stuff with it, so stay tuned

When i need it the most, i have been rather dissapointed in my art lately and trying to understand faces, and the more i look at them the more they just look like masks and then I dont even know what a face is. Thank you for the video!❤ 😊
Now THIS is some gourmet shit right here! I was doing a head structure study today (by using the Asaro head along with skull models) and this masterpiece showed up. It also helped me finally get the eye - cheek curve & jawline proportions right too!
thank you, and if you do decide to have a go we've got a great discord you can share your work on, and i'm planning to do a very beginner focused series further down the line as well so stay tuned
@@LinesSensei already in the discord 👍🏾, although I’m a beginner 3d artist not exactly in line(pun not intended 😀) with your work. I don’t know how 3d art will help in the community
This works for everything except Toriyama’s dragon ball art style. Not only are there a ton of iterations, a bunch of Dragon Ball character face anatomies even literally bend space time and break 3D dimensions. Their faces are also scrunched in the middle unlike other art styles, so I had to un-learn everything I practiced before in order to even grasp the fundamentals of Toriyama’s art style.

This video is 100% clear, but I think the most difficult part, is to understand when the angle of eye sockets is placed correctly. The rest of the video is super cool and detailed, insta followed your channel c:
You're quite right alot of other people have experienced challenge with that I'm thinking of giving out a bit more attention when I do a video focused on just drawing eyes. I also made an updated homework sheet to go with this one that has a more scaffolded approach to constructing that part of the face. The updated homework sheet is in the description now
@@LinesSensei Thank you so much 💙 I'm going through a super tough period, but as soon as I can, I want to be more present in discord server + I want to follow the homeworks properly c: you're a great teacher 🙏
The part about the eyes reaching so far into the skull changed my entire perspective on their placement as well as brow placement! I‘m definitely going to try your method. Thank you very much!
I was struggle to find any good guide videos, but this is truly a breakthrough when YOUR video is a good reference itself. Save me dozen of time to find and analysis references when learn with the Blind method.
never thought i'd receive homework from a guy off the internet. Great tutorial
BROOOO, I STUMBLED UP IN HERE CAUSE I WAS LOOKING FOR TUTORIALS AND REFERENCES, NOT AN ENTIRE LECTURE ON HOW TO DRAW HOWEVER YOU LIKED, THANK YOU SO MUUUCH MAAN, I WAS CLOSE TO GIVING UP ON DRAWING AS A HOBBY, BUT YOU REASSURED ME THAT IT IS POSSIBLE, THAAAANKS A LOOOT ❤❤❤
I really like how you explain those complicated things so simple
Thank you, I'm glad you found it useful
I added this video to my watch later thanks to the cute and funny thumbnail. I instantly subscribed and sincerely wished my procrastination hadn't delayed me this long right after watching this esteemed tutorial
Well I'm glad you did get to watch it when you did, I hope you enjoyed it
Ok seriously probably one of the best videos i have watched while trying to learn how to draw. I been able to get pieces from each section of the head and practice but I do need to learn more to get better. This video has extremely helped on angles and I will definitely be referencing this and using this to help improve. You are amazing!
Thank you I'm glad I could help
Thanks Lines I’ve spent the entire week trying the grasp this concept
Well if you waited that long I hope it helps, gambatte!
I’m blown away at your ability to teach so fluidly thank you - I needed this more than ever
The tutorials on your channel are so amazing! Literally better than any course out there. Will be following this and applying what I learn.
This video has some amazing timing, I just finished studying the "how to draw heads" part of my anatomy book. Mainly just excited to do the homework part of it for extra practice but I still did learn a few things from the video. You are definitely making the best art content around right now!
That's very nice of you to say
I'm 20 seconds into this video and I can't stop smiling, it's like I found my holy grail. THANK YOU FOR EXESTING LINESENSEI!! ARIGATO GOZAIMASU
That's very nice of you to say, and with such enthusiasm.
I hope the rest of the video meets your expectations
You clarified all the questions I had about the head. Two most influential videos for head drawing: this one and proko's loomis head.
Yeah proko is some pretty good stuff, I'm delighted by the comparison
It’s late night I been sketching and practicing lately but the attempts have left a bad taste this is exactly what I needed THANK YOU FOR SHOWING UP IN MY RECOMMEND 🙏🙏
Thank you for watching it, and thank you to the algorithm for bringing us together
Thank you for your work especially the fact that you took your valuable time to even prepare homework to be done, I can’t appreciate your efforts enough, i hope this will finally help me understand how to draw faces because they seem to be my biggest weakness.
They can be really challenging, I hope this works for you and if you do feel like sharing your results I'd love to see them if you want to put them in the discord
so i gave this method a go and it worked a whole lot better for me compared to past methods. you've successfully structured this tutorial where it makes sense in my head as it's easier to see where parts of the face are supposed to go. i'm just hoping it sticks from here on. looking forward for more content from you!
Amazingly done as aways, it's incredible how much I've improved from your tutorials
thank you that's awesome to hear
Wow, this is one of the most intuitive methods for head constructions lines I've ever seen, your explanation is super helpful while also being straight-forward. Amazing how much depth in the form you can get from such simple lines, definitely need to try this. Thank you!
Thank you I'm glad it works so well for you if you do decide to share your work we've got a discord with people who would love to see it, myself included
The last pass give magic to all the comp! Great sensei!
not sure if I just missed this during my learning of fundamentals, but the eye rule of thirds is something I've never heard of but it definitely helped.
You have answered sooo many unknowns, I am so glad you came up in my feed. Awesome work, keep it up.
Thank you for saying sorry I really appreciate it. I'll do my best to keep it up
Hearing little lines-chan in the background was adorable!
❤
Oh man I’m so excited to watch this.
Every one of your videos I learn a great new technique
that's really cool to hear if you want to share your results don't forget to put them up on the discord
I so have to say, I extremely appreciate your interactive nature with your community especially through platforms like the comments section. It such a rare but amazing trait that is hard to find in RUclipsrs these days. You earned yourself another sub and share 🔥🤝
Thank you I'm glad the activity in the comments here and on the discord is something people are enjoying. Coming from traditional class teaching it's hard for me not interact with my "students". though i will admit it is getting a little hard to keep up with now that that the numbers are getting so high
I like the idea that the standard front face is the least forgiving. Makes it less scary to try out different angles
That's a great mindset to have, very cool
just started drawing, this tutorial is goated bruh. also them homework tho, must be the first time im seeing youtuber givin homework ngl. real nice too
I've been trying to use this approach, I think I'm gradually getting better but the part that confused me the most is the jaw/chin/cheek/eye line
Also one thing I've been doing that isn't done here is draw brief lines for each major part of the eyes (top, bottom, eye brows, etc) to help line them up
That's a really good point, I do go over it in the eyes video but it could have benefited from a bit more fleshing out in this one.
That's good feedback thank you
@@LinesSensei Ah, sorry if you already covered anything in another video. I'm honestly taking your tutorials pretty slowly. ^^;
this video came up on my youtube feed a few months ago, i loved the artstyle so i saved it, i have no idea why i didnt watch it before, but guess i am going to binge watch all of your videos now.
Thank you, that's really great to hear I hope you like them,
let me know what you think
@@LinesSensei i especially liked the post processing tips i am really bad at finishing my pieces. i will likely look more into it.
THANK YOU IVE BEEN STRUGGLING FOR THE PAST 13 YEARS
Wow, that's some dedication 13 years is not a little amount, that's very impressive
Hi ive been following your guide step by step. a lot of great information especially linework and shading helped out a lot! but i think youve missed one important step. how to use these rules and measures of body in a more dynamic pose. it would be awesome to have a video in between lesson 1 and 2 that goes a bit more into posing and perspective of said elements. great tutorials, thank you!
thanks, and yes bodies in motion and bodies in perspective are planned, i wanted initially to get people familiar with the form, and then start doing more interesting stuff with it, so stay tuned
love how you chose jin roh as an example its really under rated lol
Oh so underrated
@@LinesSensei true lol
I am really trying to improve my heads and faces right now, this is a pretty helpful guide, thanks!
Holy cow! This was exactly what I needed! You are a godsend!
i'm so stoked that people seem to be really clicking with this
I just discovered your channel and the content are insane thank a bunch
Thank you, I'm really glad it helped
I just saw this man on my feed and was expecting a really long intro cuz of the 35 min stamp, mf really just get on with it and started drawing a head. Nice vid Im gonna check out your whole channel now
Its never been a bad day to draw heads since this video
That's really wonderful to hear, I'm really glad my video helped make it a more positive experience
When i need it the most, i have been rather dissapointed in my art lately and trying to understand faces, and the more i look at them the more they just look like masks and then I dont even know what a face is. Thank you for the video!❤ 😊
i hope it helps, make sure you share the results in the discord we'd love to see it and help where we can
Now THIS is some gourmet shit right here! I was doing a head structure study today (by using the Asaro head along with skull models) and this masterpiece showed up. It also helped me finally get the eye - cheek curve & jawline proportions right too!
That's great to hear I'm really happy it helps
thanks man, you just solved my problem when i drawing eyes.
Im very happy your videoes popper up on my recommended im sticking with ya
Thank you I will do my best to make it worth your time!
THIS is the video tutorial I wanted for long ! Thank you !!!
Thank you!
I can't wait to get back from work to apply your lesson.
i cant wait to see the results, be sure to share them
I don’t draw but I love watching your tutorials 👍🏾
thank you, and if you do decide to have a go we've got a great discord you can share your work on, and i'm planning to do a very beginner focused series further down the line as well so stay tuned
@@LinesSensei already in the discord 👍🏾, although I’m a beginner 3d artist not exactly in line(pun not intended 😀) with your work. I don’t know how 3d art will help in the community
this's literally the perfect tutorial for me to understand how its actually work
That's awesome I'm glad it's a good fit
I used your Transparent Circle techniques and it helped me with so much.
Mate, you are a life saver.
thanks i'm glad to hear it helped
Been waiting for this haha! I've not even watched it yet and I already know its going to be amazing! TY for the time and effort you put into these!
I hope when you get a chance you enjoy the video, let me know how you go!
certainly the best tutorial i've ever seen ! Thanks !
Thank you, that's really nice if you to say especially given how good some of the tutorials are out there here on RUclips
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Sensei! 🙏
Thank you for watching the video I appreciate it!
This video gave me +100 experience points, I'll have to practice this
Excellent XP boost
This works for everything except Toriyama’s dragon ball art style. Not only are there a ton of iterations, a bunch of Dragon Ball character face anatomies even literally bend space time and break 3D dimensions. Their faces are also scrunched in the middle unlike other art styles, so I had to un-learn everything I practiced before in order to even grasp the fundamentals of Toriyama’s art style.
You want a real mindbender, try Sonic the Hedgehog. His entire head is one merged eyeball with two pupils. There isn't a drawing method that can accommodate that level of lovecraftian insanity.
@@LinesSensei Never thought of that man! I tried drawing sonic today because of you and now I understand why he’s so hard to draw. Anyway, keep making these awesome tutorials; they’re great and still helped me a lot despite the struggles. You’re awesome man
RUclips really know what i needed, i was gonna search abt head proportion then this video pop up❤
Awesome I'm delighted it's useful and grateful to the algorithm for sharing it
This is so detail and well made ofmg, youre the best out heree sensei
You are too kind
All of these videos are wonderfully helpful, thank you! However, you should probably know that the visual for the "boys and mens heads" portion cuts off early and desyncs with the audio as the "female head instruction" starts at 10:23
Yes someone else pointed that out I don't know how to fix that after I've published the video, and it looked fine in the preview so I'm not sure what happened
used to lurk your forum posts on the sketched discord, wonderful content hope to continue seeing more ❤❤
Oh really wow, thankyou. I'm pleased to hear it was memorable
I absolutely love the way you explain things! This is the best tutorial i've seen on heads!!! Pls keep doing more. You will be a big youtuber soon i swear!!!
Definitely digging your workflow, easy to understand. Looking forward to the upcoming tutorials.
Thank you
this content is too wholesome, too informative, too educational, too good. no way I’m not subscribing to this.
