Каждый ваш урок я разбираю на протяжении недели, посвящая от 5 часов практики рисованию каждый день. Спасибо вам огромное за ваш труд!
my god, ive been looking at tutorials for over 7 years, its rare to see something so straightforward and useful, seriously 100s of yt videos and no one could give me an answer about how to adress the multiply lauer issue, i had to adjust my process to just hue shifting for each individul flat using a normal layer for shadows. would appreciate if you gave more examples with multiply layer and other layer modes in the future!
These are always so phenomenal, like I genuinely can't say just how informative and helpful these are along with how simple they are in retrospect. I was shocked when the nighttime section rolled around because I've always been fascinated with how it's done, and to essentially boil it down to a massive blue multiply layer is just nuts (And the color temperature adjustment aspect, which I didn't even know how to use properly before this). Keep doing what you're doing bro
Incredible video, so many things i've never seen other people explain or talk about much. Small question, how do you create a copy of the full image at 30:47?
9:24 also an easier and faster way to do this on SAI is by pressing CTR then clicking on the layer's thumbnail you want to make a selection around, this helps a lot without clicking away from another layer you're currently working on
That's a good way to select everything on a layer, the main goal with this method is to be able to select just one colour from that specific layer. For example if you just want to select the skin tones from a flats layer without having to select everything from the flats layer
There isn't really much more to cover with gradient map specifically. But I do plan to make more videos in future covering over more of the digital tools
This guy just made a tutorial PACKED with tips on things I've been butting my head to figure out for ages. You just saved my life friend, well deserved subscription!
I’ve watched a lot of art tutorials content but nothing has clicked with me more than your videos. This video has so much good information! I especially love that you spend time on the tools. So many videos just assume you know or completely ignore how they use the tools. For example, I use Procreate and when laying flats, I made a separate layer for each flat color and then I utilized clipping mask layers to do shading. It became overwhelming. The reference layer and magic selection trick was mind blowing for me because now I need fewer layers to achieve shading! I did a study of this piece, subbing in my own character and making a few changes to the swimsuit and hair and, using the knowledge gained from this video, it was easily the best piece I’ve made. The colors look good, I didn’t shy away from the background, etc. So this is just my long-winded way of saying thank you, LinesSensei! You’ve given me the confidence boost I needed to get past my current barriers!
at 29:40 after you selected your gradient and u use the "blur tool", that popup window(i asume) where u fiddle with any blur options doesnt show, so what filter ( i asume) are u using and how does ur pink gradient selection turn into that blureffekt ?
That bit with using reference layers for selections is such a big help. I'm definitely gonna be giving it a try. I always make individual layers for each flat colour. Then each flat colour gets a layer for shading, one for highlights, and sometimes additional detail layers, like for blush. And as someone who rarely names layers, its rather annoying going between all of them. Also, I really appreciate the fact that this is on Clip Studio. I find that most high quality tutorials are usually in photoshop.
Yeah it is a good time saver using reference layers, it's something I picked up initially in paint tool Sai. CSP really is great for drawing, much better than PS. CSP is drawing software first and foremost, whereas PS feels like photo editing software that you can draw in if you want.
Wow, i love your tutorials. Im so happy RUclips recommended me your videos. I was struggling to understand why shadow look so good on people's work. I usually was making shadows with dark coloursless brush and then adding layers which changed colours.
Thanks for elaborating on the flats selection! I still was having trouble getting the selection to work, even after watching that section of this video. I knew about reference layers, etc, but I couldn't get the magic wand to select all of a single color in a layer. If there was a line between it(like the bikini top cutting off the top and bottom skin, for example), it would just stop at the nearest line. But after looking in detail at your wand settings at 8:49, I realized you had the "Apply to connected pixels only" box unchecked. That was the missing piece. Now we're cooking! Also, I really must thank you for showing the post-processing. I started using a few that you hit on briefly in your demo with the goblin girls, and they have been a drastic improvement in my art. Especially the Level Adjustment one. That's an instant beauty filter if I've ever seen one. Great work, as always!
seeing paint tool sai gave me such a wave of nostalgia. also my jaw is on the floor the way you explain the process is amazing and this is going to level up my art so much thank you!
Very helpful tutorial! I always struggle with trying to add the finishing touches, that little extra polish. Thank you so much for your high quality tutorials

The best one I've seen tbh, I've been interested in the topic for the past 10 years, I've only seen this quality in non video format and in non english languages.
I learned so many features from this video! None of the other videos about post-processing I've watched have been explained in such detail. Thank you very much!
Holy crap, the last 6 mins of this video are JAM PACKED with amazing tips. Gonna have to rewatch it a million times to figure out all those ideas, thanks for sharing and putting everything together!
Quick question. this is probably inconsequential but at 19:02, when you duplicated your folder and moved it to the right of the canvas, how come the two dot colors on the left aren't the same after duplication? You can see that the pink/teal color dots look like they're on a multiply layer even though you hadn't done anything to it from the first folder.
that's an excellent question, if its the bit I think you're talking about its because the folder of layers, the folder will have a blend mode, so within the folder they will use their individual blend modes, but the contents of the folder as a whole will be dependent on the group's blend mode
This is delightful, thank you so much. I've forever put off trying to piece together a coherent color workflow and here you are, pointing out how it can work.
I'm so glad I found your channel because I love all of your tips and tricks esp with coloring! I def need to get started on some of the homework sheets soon after Im done with Anime Expo prepping haha

Do you plan to make any videos in the future on these topics? I would love for you to explain it since your tutorials are the best I have seen. thx!
I am loving all of your instructional videos. You convey information in a way that feels much more approachable than what I usually encounter. I'm sure you have dozens and dozens of video ideas but would you consider doing as step by step process video at some point? Like an overall from start to finish step by step. Yo the big pineapple, I've been there, it's like 2 hours drive from me. Excellent video as always Sir. Rendering has always been something I've struggled with.
The tutorial ball in the “wet skin effect” chapter was really nice. Seeing it (general “it”, as in the thing being taught.) in a simplified context makes it feel less intimidating. It also works better than the single image tutorials on Pinterest or wherever since I can see you do it.
I've actually done the night-lighting trick with the blue layer and just removing the shading in some spots myself a couple of times. Usually turns out to look better than my other attempts at shading.

Half of these trick I knew and the other half I didn't but again another amazing 👏👏👏💯💯💯 the night trick I'm definitely giving it a try on my next design
The biggest issue I've always had with post-processing is choice paralysis. These programs give you so many options that it feels like I'll never be able to find the one that works best for my purposes.
Tried for a bit but I cannot replicate the multiply shading method on Krita. Grouped in an equivalent manner to CSP in krita but tried all the blending modes for the copied flat and none of them worked. Otherwise great video.
So I had someone else with a similar issue in Krita, I made a little mini tutorial and posted it in the Discord, so if you do join the server ping me and I'll dig it up and Link you to it
yeah there's a lot of software out there, they do have a lot in common, but they also have a lot that's unique. if you do ever have trouble applying what i go over in the video, I can see we've already gone over a bit of it in the discord but keep on asking, it's important that i make this info usable to people who use software i don't, so that information is super valuable 🙇
7:04 there's also a subtool called the lasso fill tool which automatically fills in the lasso selection with color :) On that note I'd love to see a video dedicated to showing how you render tricky stuff like clouds, water, beach foam, and tree foliage. I know there's not one right way to do them but you have such a good way of breaking down your process that I think it would be super helpful. Edit: Gosh I didn't even *know* there was a solution to the multiply layer not multiplying. I couldn't wrap my head around the layer modes so I just accepted my fate and suffered 😂
There are so many layer blending modes where I don't even know what they are used for. Krita has something like "Freeze", "Reflect", and "Parallel A" and "Parallel B", but all I and everyone else seems to be using is Multiply, Screen, Add, Overlay, etc.
Im one of those masos that separates their colors by a thousand layers. Its a crutch inherited from my photoshop days that can be put down for good with your technique that is oh so much easier on the layer organisation. Im not a big anime waifu kind of person, but damn are your videos well done as a teaching tool. This one in general is just great for soooo many workflows that deal with cell shading or try to incorporate it in theirs (like me 😂).
19:06 I wanted to know how we'd do this on ibis paint. I tried and I didn't get the same results? If I'm following it right. We put the chosen cololrs and chosen shading color together. "Grouping" like, putting it in a folder? Or uh, maybe combinding it into one image? And then set the whole image to the a different affect. Like hue, soft light, ect? Or if we put it in a folder and just use a different coloring effect that way. a little confusing on how to do it when not having this program. Bc I tried both honestly and I didn't see a change? 🙏
Yeah nah Ibispaint does it, I did it recently when I did that video with a complete imag on my phone. It's there it's just called something else like layer clipping or something, check the controls in the layers panel I reckon
@LinesSensei like trying to get it to change the shading color. how sometimes the color is too bright and what not? I'm just unsure how with Ibis paint
Try doing a human saturation adjustment on the copy you made of the flats that you have clipped to your shading layer, Doing a hue shift as well as a lightness shift down by about 20 should do it usually. Also don't forget that you can keep some of the original shading color and darkness by simply lowering the opacity of that duplicated flats layer that you're using to control the shading layer

probably gave my PC some sort of virus, but it was worth it
@LinesSensei 🤣 Im so close to doing that myself after the way season 3 ends I have to get the last season
Appreciate it this really helps 🙏
really nice
No you are!
How do you use the fill tool? (to make the color go under the line art) so when you remove it there is no gap?
that is an excellent question.
it depends what software you're using, so what software are you using?
@@LinesSensei I would like to know as well, I remember kind of doing in it the past but forgot how. This is on Clip Studio Paint. BTW love your videos. Thank you for sharing.
@@LinesSensei CSP :D
@@Vensethos so in the bucket fill tool, making sure you have it set to "Refer other layers" in the subtool options for "Fill"
then in the "Tool Property:Refer other layers" panel, make sure you have the "Area Scaling" box checked, and set your area scaling to about 1.00, you can see the settings in the video if you pause it at about 5:15 or jump to the "Flat Colours" chapter

lines keeps us so well fed.
also wakfu 💛💛💛
Omg! This one! I was waiting for this one! Thanks for sharing all the tricks, are you gonna do one about colors? Or color pallets?
Half of these trick I knew and the other half I didn't but again another amazing 👏👏👏💯💯💯 the night trick I'm definitely giving it a try on my next design
The biggest issue I've always had with post-processing is choice paralysis. These programs give you so many options that it feels like I'll never be able to find the one that works best for my purposes.
Amazing! I see you take in mind SAI, I love that! I use the first version tho
Great anatomy work 👌
Tried for a bit but I cannot replicate the multiply shading method on Krita. Grouped in an equivalent manner to CSP in krita but tried all the blending modes for the copied flat and none of them worked. Otherwise great video.
So I had someone else with a similar issue in Krita, I made a little mini tutorial and posted it in the Discord, so if you do join the server ping me and I'll dig it up and Link you to it
Nice stuff. Hoping when you cover alternative methods like in this video you include Krita. I struggle with doing this stuff using Krita
yeah there's a lot of software out there, they do have a lot in common, but they also have a lot that's unique. if you do ever have trouble applying what i go over in the video, I can see we've already gone over a bit of it in the discord but keep on asking, it's important that i make this info usable to people who use software i don't, so that information is super valuable 🙇
7:04 there's also a subtool called the lasso fill tool which automatically fills in the lasso selection with color :)
On that note I'd love to see a video dedicated to showing how you render tricky stuff like clouds, water, beach foam, and tree foliage.
Sensei is a Wakfu fan? Fantastic
huuuge fan
There are so many layer blending modes where I don't even know what they are used for. Krita has something like "Freeze", "Reflect", and "Parallel A" and "Parallel B", but all I and everyone else seems to be using is Multiply, Screen, Add, Overlay, etc.
As a long ear enjoyer I'm all for the long ears staying
LOINES what’s good.
Oh just so much
Thankyou!❤
Im one of those masos that separates their colors by a thousand layers. Its a crutch inherited from my photoshop days that can be put down for good with your technique that is oh so much easier on the layer organisation.
Im not a big anime waifu kind of person, but damn are your videos well done as a teaching tool. This one in general is just great for soooo many workflows that deal with cell shading or try to incorporate it in theirs (like me 😂).
love how you draw the background, could we get a video about it?
Quality content!
Try doing a human saturation adjustment on the copy you made of the flats that you have clipped to your shading layer,
Doing a hue shift as well as a lightness shift down by about 20 should do it usually.
Also don't forget that you can keep some of the original shading color and darkness by simply lowering the opacity of that duplicated flats layer that you're using to control the shading layer
@LinesSensei thank you!
This is so goood!!
