      I had my revision surgery in April of 2023, this is July of 2024 so 15 months since my surgery not 3 months, but I agree for a Microdiscectomy my surgeon said wait 6 months to go back to normal things, fusion I would say a year or 12 months to go back to doing what you were doing before.

    So sorry to hear this! When they say come back and do it again? What do they say the reason is? What would they redo? This seems strange to me! My surgeon who did first fusion made me wait a year then said oh you didn’t fuse we can go back in from the front and remove old stuff and add new and it worked. Did they say what they think is causing the pain? Was your surgery from the back or front? I would love to hear more!

    I had really bad back issues for years, but this past July 4th, I somehow really made it worse. I ended up in ER and two clinics, but it was only temporary relief. The back pain radiated down my left leg, so bad that I could barely sit or lie in bed. I slept in the recliner for two months. Finally I saw a surgeon, got all the MRI's, CT's, etc..He said I needed surgery to fuse L4, L5, S1. I finally decided to have the surgery, which the surgery center was 150 miles away. The surgery went well and I went home the next day. That was 10 weeks ago, and I can say it was the worst decision I've made in a long time! I'm still in pain most of the time, and it's still radiating down my left leg. Can't find a way to get comfortable sitting or lying in bed. The only thing that they'll order for my pain is Gabapentin and it's hard to get that. Now they want me to come back and have it done again! I just can't see doing it again! No guarantee that it would work and it might even be worse! As bad as my back was before the surgery, I wish I had never had it done!!

      Hey John, I hate to hear you have been suffering with more back issues. In April of 2023 I ended up trusting my surgeon to try and do the revision and not touch L5/S1. They came in this time from the front and removed all the hardware and put in a new cage etc and screws in the back. The biggest issue I had was some stomach pain where I think the vascular surgeon messed up a nerve or got it trapped or something. It was bugging me for a year but my back felt much better. I think I finally fused at L4/L5. Now around 15 days after the surgery I had awful sciatic pain on the right side and thought I crap it is my L5/S1 disc and I should have just done both while I was under... well I asked the surgeon for a medrol or predisone pack and on day 2 the pain was gone. I have not had that bad sciatica since in the right leg. Long story short I feel 90% better now than I have since this all started. I can lift weights no dead lifts nothing heavy and not squats or anything bending over. I can run a little and walk as much as I like. Car rides don't bother me anymore either. I hope this continues. I am almost 59 and want 15 more good years and after that don't care what happens.. Well I say that now so we will see... Its crazy my wife just had a discectomy for L5/S1 so dealing with her back issues now. Good luck and I hope you find someone that can fix the L4 disc and facet joints or whatever they need to do. Post surgery you know is not as bad as what you deal with day to day... I was in so much pain when I ruptured the L4 disc the first and 2nd time that I was off all pain meds immediately waking up from surgery... It will be worth it if you can get it fixed... 63 is still young.. get back out there and do what you enjoy and find you someone to spend your life with... Good luck and keep me updated..

    Surgeon wants to do Microdiscectomy on L5/S1 on next Thursday the 20th of August. He does not think the disc will heal on its on and she will probably have good days and bad days and it could get real bad. Apparently injections don't really heal the disc and in some cases and cause more damage although it might provide some sense of pain relief by masking pain. As of now she does preop tomorrow and schedule for surgery next week.

      @@rtazz17 My wife's Surgeon same one I used, thought doing a microdiscectomy was the best option. She had the surgery in out patient surgery center at their location on 08/15/24 and was home about 6 hours later. We go in for her 2 week checkup this Thursday. She gradually came off the pain meds after 3 or 4 days just using Tylenol. Her back feels better and the pain is better although she still complains about a spot in her back left thigh that feels strange, hoping just some nerves trying to forget the sciatic pain that was there before. Curious what the surgeon says tomorrow. . The fusion is a more invasive procedure but honestly, depending on the type it is not super bad. Do you know if they are doing your fusion from the front or the back? My first fusion was outpatient center, but it never fused they did it from the back. I had a revision in April of 2023 where they took out everything and went back in from the front and it feels way better. Let me know if you have any questions about the post fusion etc. I have been through 2 so I will try and remember.

    • @rtazz17
      @rtazz17 2 месяца назад

      Its actually both. Its alif/plif. Disc out from front and spacer inserted and then mazo robotic assist from back to insert screws. He recommended screws in back cuz 5% of patients have cage move. I had choice, so I said yes. I in pretty good shape. 52yrs old. Active my whole life till my back sidelined me last 4 yrs. Im hoping its not terrible post surgery. Ive put up with a lot of pain so I know I can handle it but it would be nice to have smooth recovery. I have a little pain down leg but my pain is concentrated in my lower back. I had discogram in a couple discs and when they injected lidocain into L5/S1 pain went away. So its the smoking gun, I pray. Ive watched your journey.

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams 2 месяца назад

      @@rtazz17 Sounds like they are doing it the right way! I wish they had done mine from the front and back the first time I believe I would have been better. I was around 52 when I had my discectomy, did they consider that first? I re ruptured mine so wish they had fused me the first time although I know my neurosurgeon was trying to do the least amount of damage possible. Since you have dealt with the "REAL" PAIN, the recovery from surgery is always easier to me. Even the fusion revision was not as bad as I thought. I had more issues with a nerve in my stomach that I think got trapped than I did with my back. I did have bad leg pain day 10 or 12 but the medrol pack took care of that.. I still think I have some disc problems at L5/S1 and actually had lidocaine injected once to see if that was the problem and I felt 85 to 90% better after but the doctor did not want to fuse that area, scared of having two discs fused which he said would lead to more problems. I actually wish he had just done both while he was in there last time, but I can live with it right now and do alot of things I couldn't before surgery. Good luck and keep us updated or do some videos, since you will have time while you recover. Sounds like your Surgery Team knows exactly what they are doing and I know it will go great for you. If you have any questions let me know. My wife goes in for her 2 week post microdiscectomy tomorrow.

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams 3 месяца назад

      The surgery I was talking about is not an XLIF OR FUSION. NO Devices like cages or spacers are inserted into the spine. The surgeon does not remove or cut through bone or muscles to perform the surgery. Instead, they observe your spine using a device known as a tubular retractor with a small camera. Also, they avoid making large incisions. The surgeon only takes around 30 minutes to complete the procedure and you can go home. Similar to a discectomy but instead of damaging bones and muscles only a small incision. I think if you search ENDOSCOPIC DISCETOMY it will have some information on it. I am just trying to find someone in my area that does it or says it is an option for my wife. We met with surgeon yesterday and he said he could do injections or typical discectomy and the herniation looked pretty bad based on the MRI and where her pain is, down the back and leg and into the foot.

      I hate to hear that I know I was given Medrol dose pack because I got severe sciatic pain in my whole right leg but it started about 12 days after the surgery. I think the prednisone and medrol may keep the bones from fusing correctly. You should start feeling better each day and I am sure they are thinking you just need time to heal. Is the pain in your back? I would try and just keep healing naturally and ask about pain meds until the pain gets better. Good luck and keep us updated and hope you feel better soon. When I do high intensity jogging or walking up a mountain early in the day I have gotten a migraine 90% of the time. I found a few studies that say a Ketogenic diet might help with migraines. I have been doing a keto diet for a few years now very strict using keto-stix to make sure I am in ketosis and honestly I have not seen any improvement in my migraine frequency but it might be because I have been doing keto for over 10 years. Yeah Cold Plunge is my least favorite but was $120 so the cheapest of the bunch but honestly you could roll your windows down in the car for 5 minutes on your way to work in the morning and probably get the same benefits. Although some times when I back or legs might ache it seems to stop the pain, then I jump in the hot tub and go back and forth. Not sure it does much but the hot tub definitely helps the back. I do have to spend about an hour or so every 2 weeks making sure the chemicals are right.

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams 9 месяцев назад

      Actually in 2020 my fusion at L4/L5 was done from the back but it never fused. I was still in pain afterwards but I had a revision done in April of 2023. This time it was called an ALIF. They had a vascular surgeon come from the front and move everything out of the way then the neurosurgeon removed the old cage etc, and added a new cage. I will be honest, no one told me there would be any pain in my stomach but that was worse than the back pain honestly. It was not terrible but bothersome. I am just now getting to where I can stand a long time without this weird nerve pain pulling on my lower abs. I thought I had a hernia at one point but the vascular surgeon said I didn't and there was really nothing that would help it. I will say the fusion at L4/L5 is way better than it was after the first surgery. The only bad thing is I am about 90% sure I have had issues with my L5/S1 disc since this back pain and sciatic pain began and it was not addressed. If I could go back to April of 2023 I would pressure the surgeon into doing both discs, but always better to start small I guess. What symptoms are you having and what have they said is your problem? Just curious and good luck. Any questions at all let me know. I feel like I know more about backs and surgeries than I should or want to know at this point. I am considering doing the newer laser surgery on L5/S1 disc. Not sure if you are a candidate for that type but if I could go back in time I would have started with that over the discectomy. Good luck

      Good morning and thank you for responding. Yes I would like to talk to you more about the new surgery. I’m wondering if that’s the one they’re talking about… I got to be honest I’m scared to death and I’m on my third surgeon because none of them have made me feel super comfortable. My problems started in 2020… i’m very active and I used to hike and walk 3 to 4 miles a day. My pain started in my hip and then my leg would go numb and I could not walk it got to be where I could only go for about 10 minutes so I started physical therapy. I tried acupuncture all the things and nothing helped so I went to a back surgeon and he did an MRI. Long story short he retired told me I need surgery eventually wanted to try shots I’m not really into that kind of thing cause I’m like if it’s a Band-Aid what’s the point and I know steroids weekend your bones. I’ve been trying to fight it on my own, but I have spinal stenosis spondylolysis my spines curved now, and there is nothing that I can do to fix this myself obviously. But I’m scared to death for them to operate on my spine. They told me at the last place they would go through my oblique, and he said that my psoas muscle would probably be the sorest part. They wanted to try ablation and I said I do not want to mask the pain I want what ever is causing it fixed. They want to do these stimulators etc.. I said no to all of those. How old are you if you don't mind me asking. I didn't want to wait until I was too old and them tell me oh it' dangerous to have surgery now. Like you I have always been active and the last 5 years have sucked not being able to do things that are active. Since surgery or 6 months after I was able to start hiking a 1 mile mountain and trails although some times I over do it. I also started lifting some weights again just dumb bells but I haven't been able to do that in years so in that respect I feel much better and somewhat alive again. Why would you not want them by your head other than they get hot? I believe the reason you use the Ruby Lux NIR infrared lights is for penetrating the body? I got this off their webiste. Do Your Bulbs Have EMF's (Elecromagnetic Fields) or ELF's (Extremely Low Frequency)? Dirty Electricity? Some customers are concerned about the possible dangers of exposure to Electromagnetic Fields, or EMF's. A similar concern is exposure to Extremely Low Frequencies, or ELF's. These two are not the same thing, but people concerned about one of them will usually be concerned about the other. None of our bulbs emit frequencies in the ELF range. Usually, the biggest ELF risks are household electrical wires and the electrical cords of electronic products. So while RubyLux bulbs do not emit any ELF's, people concerned about ELF's should take care when choosing a lamp, lantern cord or fixture to use the bulb in. The best cords to use to reduce ELF exposure are electrical cords that are insulated. As far as Electromagnetic Fields (EMF's) go, RubyLux bulbs do not emit any EMF's in the range that EMF experts believe are potentially harmful. Another related issue is whether the bulbs put out what is referred to as "dirty electricity". We do not currently test RubyLux bulbs for dirty electricity, but we regularly hear from customers who do and all of them have said the bulbs emit very, very little dirty electricity. Difference between RubyLux NIR-A Near Infrared Bulbs and Other Brands: The RubyLux NIR-A Near Infrared Bulb is superior to competing brands. That's so interesting to read that you ended up buying a real factory made sauna. I've been going through this for the last 3 days studying saunas almost bought the sunstream sauna. @KBradAdams 11 месяцев назад

      If I compared the original make shift sauna in the tent to the factory made, I have to say the make shift was a little bigger so more room to move around and when I laid it on the ground it allowed me to lay on my stomach for 15 minutes and then turn over for 15 minutes. With back issues sitting for 30 was tough. It does not hold the temperature as well but would cause me to sweat just as much but took longer to heat. It is ugly and the new sauna heats up quicker looks so much better and after my last back surgery I can sit in there for 20 minutes with no problem and stand every few minutes just to mix it up some. I am happy with the real sauna purchase and my wife is happier as she hated the tent because it was an eye sore. She uses the new one twice a week and I have been using it about 3 times per week for 20 minutes a session. I don't use the radio in it at all even though it has really good sound. I rather grab a phone and play mediation music or music I enjoy or just listen to a pod cast or something. Any question let me know. But I say it was worth the money. Based on what I have read about the heart benefits I can see sort of see that. I take my pulse before I get in and its around 70 resting. Once the heat comes to temperature it goes up over 100 and sometimes reaches 120 even though you don't feel like it is beating much faster. No problem breathing at all.

      Once you set it up and get it up to 104 or just hold the temp button for about 5 to 8 seconds and it will flash some weird numbers that end in 05 then 06 and a little while later when you go back the tub will be at 106. I still keep mine there and I have used my hot tub probably 6 days a week since I have owned it and sometimes twice a day. If you have kids I would not suggest keeping it that hot and I also don't stay in it longer than 20 minutes at a time. I recently got a cold plunge and sometimes will go back and forth. You are going to love it. I also will mention at 104 to 106 temps the chlorine might get used up faster. I actually went to a bromine floater in mine and love it. I change the water every 3 months and have not had any issues with at all. Only change I would make is I would convert to 220 power just to save a little money in the long run on electric but its not too bad. Any questions let me know.

I have used this hot tub at least once a day every day since I have had it although I had to take about 2 months off after a spinal back fusion surgery since I could not get in water until the scar healed. Yesterday I was in it twice and I also purchased a cheap cold plunge tub that I refill every week with just plain water but will alternate or jump in the water after about 10 minutes in the hot tub then 5 in the cold water similar to a pool temp, then back to the hot tub, and usually do 3 rounds and end with the little tub of water to get some of the chemicals off before I go take a shower. I use bromine currently in the hot tub and it works great! Any more questions let me know. I also just purchased a radiant health sauna and use that about 4 times a week at 20 minute sessions.

So what he suggested was, to cut my back and do normal fusion and the cut my stomach and insert the ADR on the same day. Then after 3 month i go for another surgery so he can remove the screws from my back. He said to have ADR he needs to place the screw as my back has no instability. Thanks May Smith and I hope you figure out the best way to handle your back pain as well. Surgery for me was scary and after this one if you had asked me 12 days after I would have said I would not have done it, but if you asked me today at 8 weeks after I would say I am not sure yet. My surgeon actually said many times over the last 3 years, if you were a family member of mine I would say do not have the fusion. I always said well if I lived with you for a week or a month you would see how much pain I am in and know that I need something done. Anyway with all that being said I still say it all depends on what kind of pain you are in. What level are they talking about doing and ADR? Also are you able to sleep or move around or are you stuck in bed? Are you having to take medication for the pain? Is it going down your leg or legs or just in the back? I would try and talk to another few surgeons in your area and just get some more opinions until you find the one that feels right. I honestly had a gut feeling before my first surgery that the disc below the L4/L5 was causing some of my pain and I didn't push to have that one fixed and looking back now I wish I had. I am probably 3 to 4 months away from knowing if mine was worth it but hopefully I post my next video saying my 3 month check up went great and they see bone growth and the fusion taking place. Good luck and I hope you find more relief than you have now.

I am on holiday now and my back is killing me as I walk a lot . Every ten minutes I have to stop, sit down or bend forward to take the pressure for a couple of minutes. • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams Год назад

      @@maysmith7994 Would I go for the surgery? That is a tough question because there are so many factors to consider. When I first had my back issues I tried everything I could to avoid surgery but when I got to the point I could no longer sleep, walk or stand more than about 10 steps, because the leg or sciatic pain was so bad. I really had no choice. I fought it for a good 3 or so months. I tried everything ice, heat, inversion, decompression, chiro, massage, Dr. Stuart McGill's back mechanic program, acupuncture, cold laser therapy, electric stem, tens, russian stem, cupping, cryotherapy, cold plunge, and as a last resort I did the Steroid Epidural Injections. I got zero relief from all of these and had to opt for a discectomy. If I could have slept I might have waited or tried something else. My pain was coming from a disc so my sciatic pain and back pain were different from what you have. I did wake up sciatic pain free so for me that worked although I wish I knew what I know now, I would have opted for a disc surgery where they don't cut your back muscles or bones but go in from the side and remove it. Back to your question I think I would ask, how old are you? Have you tried PT with a good physical therapist? Do you have weakness or is it just pain in your back mostly? Have you tried decompression? Since sitting seems to hurt that might help. Did you say leaning forward helped with the pain or made it worse? I think I would try and get a second and third opinion and look closely at their reviews and see if they have any other ideas that might help before opting for what your current doctor says. 2 surgeries just seems a little extreme and I still say I would avoid surgery if I could sleep and didn't have to use pain meds daily. What level is the slip in your vertebrae? One thing you could try is when walking take the exact same path each time and remember when you get to the point your back starts hurting stop before you get there the next time and the next day see if you can get passed that point without pain. Here is a video by Stuart Mcgill that talks about decompressing your back that might give you some relief. ruclips.net/video/LjhrtruNz3I/видео.html He also has other youtube videos that might be helpful. I hope you find some answers soon, but as I said I would probably hold off unless you were in more pain and until you find a surgeon that you feel really confident can help. Last question what state are you in?

Yes, you have tried many different treatments, I don't even know half of it. One thing I didn't see in your list was RF ablation. Did you try that? My dr wants me try that before thinking about a surgery. You mentioned a good point about timing when I walk. I did that yesterday and I was 10 mins , that I should sit for a few minutes. Normally bending too much gives me a bad backpain for a few days but when I walk for a while bending forward gives me a relief. So I need to sit and bend forward. I don't know the level on my slipped vertebra but it's not high. One of the doctors said you need to try to make the muscles , the cire muscles stronger to keep the vertebra in place. Not sure if that will solve my problem but I decided to go to the gym and get a personal trainer to see if I can achieve that. I also want to do everything before I decide for surgery. For a long time none of these doctors I was seening didn't have any idea about my slipped vertebra as all they ask you to make is CT scan or a MRI. Only one dr asked me to have Xray in different positions ( like bending forward and back) so my problem was showing in those so now they know I am not a good candidate for an ADR operation unfortunately. It might be a bit strange but when I use a tense device, I don't feel the pain and I question myself, can my brain switch the pain off? Hi Brad! I'm so glad for you that the sciatic pain is gone! I asked my doctor about you today and he said that it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to have a double fusion if the adjacent segment has a herniated disk, but it all depends on the size and the shape of the harniation and if it pressures a nerve. So your doctor maybe did the right thing for you. I asked if someone from abroad wanted to have a zoom or Skype appointment if he does that and he said yes. So if you ever want another opinion, let me know. I have a friend that his doctor did a second discectomy after reherniation of his disc and after a few months he developed spondylolisthisis and had to have a fusion anyway. You create too much instability if you cut too much of the disk.
