My heart goes out to you. I had a revision fusion in September 2021 after a failed fusion. Lived 10 years in agonizing, suicidal pain. No one can understand it if they’re not going through it. No dr would touch me even though they admitted the fusion was sloppy and done wrong. I finally got connected with a neurosurgeon known as the best on the east coast. Had to go out of state, but he fixed it! He fixes many failed fusions by the inept “doctor”. The excellent neurosurgeon is Dr. Paul McAfee in Timonium/Baltimore, MD. I wish the best for you.
Thanks Nirvana1010, glad to hear you found some relief and I agree. Unless someone has gone through that suicidal pain, they just don't really understand how bad it is. What were your symptoms of your failed fusion? Was it sciatic nerve pain or pain in the back or can you give some details. I am just trying to make sure a revision might fix my issues. Most of my pain is when my spine moves. If I stand straight up I am usually pretty good unless I am carrying something. If I bend forward for more than a minute, I look 80 years old trying to get back up straight. Also if I am on the ground doing something I look super old trying to bet back up, because of the pain right in my lower spine but once all the way up I am pretty good. Thanks for any advice or input.
@@KBradAdams Hi. I had two laminectomy/discectomies due to pregnancies in the mid 1990’s. I had a neck fusion in 2007 (C2-C3). I then had the failed spinal fusion in 2011. It was L1, L2 and S1. I knew something was wrong. I had severe sciatic nerve pain going down my left leg. My lumbar was pure torture. Found a new primary care physician and he knew just who to send me to. Had the revision done 9/21. Dr. McAfee said it was one of the worst cases he’s seen. I was put on Percocet for NINE years! I begged the pain management Dr every time to wean me off. I was cut off in one month. I ended up looking like a Holocaust victim. I was in pain everywhere. Tried medical marijuana, but it wasn’t for me. Thankfully I found Dr. McAfee. In March 2022 I fell down our steps and broke my tibial plateau, fibia and tore my ACL. My orthopedic surgeon said it’s been torn for quite some time. Never knew it. Still in physical therapy. I do have a numbing sensation in my lumbar. I was told it’s bc of the four surgeries and cutting through nerves and scar tissue. I can handle that. I really hope you find relief. 🥹 I missed out on a lot. Was on anti depressants for quite some time. Still am.
@@UpFromUnder6 Wow... so sorry to hear you had to go through all that. Sounds like Dr. McAfee was a great choice for you. I have done so many virtual visits having surgeons look at my MRI and CT scans and Xrays but I just don't want to be in worse pain than I am now. I might reach out to him and have him look at my MRI's and CT as well. Mine pain now is way better than I was before both surgeries but I feel like I can be even better, just scary thinking I could be worse. I hope you continue to improve and keep me updated. I plan on doing a few more videos leading up to my April Revision and visits. Thanks again for all the information.
I am going to keep you in my prayers Brother! I know what you are going through and i know exactly what you mean. My surgeon did an ALIF l4l5 fusion on me in 2021. What i understand is they go in through the front only if they dont need to work on the nerves? I am living in chronic pain again after someone ran a red light crashing into me wrecking my life. Keep in touch!!
Thanks for the good wishes and I’ll keep you updated as it gets closer to the surgery date and progress after. I hope you find some complete pain relief soon!
@@KBradAdams Brad if you ever need anyone to talk to about anything especially this horrible pain i am always here for you man. Its been a really bad week for me.
@@jeremys5904 sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I guess I am lucky I can do some things and sleep through the night most nights. Before surgery I was in so much pain so lucky I guess and greatful! Keep us updated any plans for surgery or anything?
@@KBradAdams Well i am able to excercise and walk and sleep but its a centralized low back pain that is always there since this accident in november. It was debilitating for the first month but with physical therapy and working out at the gym i am managing the pain better. I did have my surgeon look at my MRI and he says no surgery needed and that its mainly inflammation but there are some minor changes compared to a post op mri a year ago. I have a laundry list of problems that dont need surgery but all added up and i can not perform my work.I rolled over a speed bump very slowly and didnt brace myself and that put me in bed for 3 days and any wrong movement sends me in pain again. I am fighting for my life and i feel like i need another surgery so i might get a steroid injection at l5s1 bulge in a couple weeks. My life consists of resting, stretching, physical therapy, excercise and super clean diet to lose 25 more pounds to get down to 180. I do consider myself lucky as it could definitely be worse but damn back pain makes me miserable. My surgeon definitely saved my life in 2021. My disc was almost totally degenerated. Thank you for listening.
@@jeremys5904 Yeah I went through a couple of years where surgeons all told me you don't need another surgery! I was so pissed, I said I know my body and it is not right. Finally I asked one if I could go back to working out, yes you are fine. 3 days later my back was hurting more after a light warmup and some drilling. Day 4 I sneezed and re ruptured the disc again. I knew it was going to happen I just didn't think it would be that soon. Anyway that lead me to my first fusion and it took care of the debilitating sciatic pain but still hurts and has me where I am now, do I continue to live in pain after doing anything physical or go for the revision in hopes it can be better. Right now that is where we are. Good luck Jeremy and I will update this page in the next few months as I continue this back pain journey.

Hey man by chance are you a military veteran?
I am around your age I also have severe spine problems I dont understand why these spine problems are so common.
