Little Houses - an origami tessellation tutorial
Here is a bit of an explanation of a variation of Shuzo Fujimoto’s clover tessellation that I call, Little Houses.
-•-•-•-
You will need a square of paper creased to 16 division grid with 16 diagonal divisions.
-•-•-•-
There are some really nice intersections in this pattern that can be used in endless different ways.
Happy experimenting.
-•-•-•-
This is not a beginner’s tutorial; I recommend learning to fold a clover tessellation first if you are new to tessellations.
There are plenty of videos available.
I also have a series of three tutorials on clovers and hydrangeas that may be of use.

Origami Tessellations: Grid Folding Tips (part 1)

To create origami tessellations, you usually need to crease a piece of paper into grid first. The thing is, a lot of people find creasing grids tedious! Thank you @@zoeysweetie1 🤗 I have tutorial ideas to make in the future but no time at the moment. Definitely more to come eventually

Nice Tipps! How do you color your your paper in such a cool Pattern?
@@hunterqwertz2342 This paper comes in a a pack if different colours and patterns. It’s called Harmony by Grimmhobby. You can order it from a few online origami stores and it’s available on Amazon. My favourite paper ever.
@@origami.by.e9415 Thank you for your answer. I just ordered some Paper, it looks really great especially for tessellation :)
It is absolutely unacceptable to make a tutorial like this! It took few hours to reach the moment where you just stop showing what you are doing! It is outrageous to loose someone's time like that! If you want to make a tutorial than plan it and do it with patience! If you don't have the time or will than don't loose other people time as well! VERY DISSAPOINTED!!!
Will you take a breath and look at what you are saying and how you are saying it. “Absolutely unacceptable”?? How many views are there on this video? How many people have folded it successfully? This is not a beginner’s tutorial. I am not a paid teacher for you. Anything I share is with the aim of giving “some” guidance to people wanting to learn. Are you going to get it every time? No. You want me to plan better? How about you do some further practice, perfect the base techniques, and exercise the level of patience this type of folding requires, before you have a whinge to me about your troubles. I am doing this for fun. For free.

That looks gorgeous - and with beloved hydrangea-moves 🎉 By the way: You did *64* divisions??!!!! That's just insane. Na, I don't even want to know, if you did that tiny treasure with just a 15 x 15 square or not. I'm utterly speachless! Fortunately, there where no nightmares of endless messy folding with sweaty hands after watching your tutorial (or rather the 64 divisions-statement). 😳👍
@@theresa5114 Thank you! This version thankfully only needs 32 divisions! But then, of course, I also fold these out of 7.5cm squares 😂
@@origami.by.e9415 Pfff, 🤣 I can Imagine you sitting with magnifier spectacles, a set square, pencil lead (lead pencil lead?/lead? Ähh) with 10^ - 8 mm and other tools drawing exact lines on the paper and folding it.

I enjoyed making this. It was easier than I thought. In the end, instead of cutting the excess off, I folded it in and secured it under a triangle making a frame. Thanks!

Hello, beautiful model! I am absolutely obsessed with all of your tutorials. I know that you posted this video over 3 years ago, but I was wondering if you will post the tutorial on how to fold it from the center? I keep having trouble refolding it from the first model.
Hi, thank you. I did start a grid for the a tutorial…. but got busy and I gave up 🤦♂️ I haven’t done a tutorial in a while, so this is a good reminder. Stay tuned.
I love your videos I had done a couple of these ones now And I loved them so so much but what paper you use? Where do you buy your paper? On amazon I can't find standard bicolored kami, or I find it, it's just the full colored one. Where do you get the gradient paper that you use in a lot of your designs?
The gradient paper is called Harmony print from Grimmhobby. I have got it from Amazon before but it can be bought at a few places online.
What is exact name of paper
I’m completely obsessed with this model. Both of them in a way, but mostly the first one so I can make the conversion. I was having difficulty with the first one for a while, so I went back to basics and folded loads of simple 9 tile clovers. And then played with adding squares between corners on those. One of the most difficult things is folding an accurate grid. Every time I get a slightly different result. But, on balance, it’s improving. I can fold the both models on my own now. And I just worked out how to fold the corners so they are ready for the conversion. Very pleased about that. Sorry for the long comment. Not sure if anyone else would have a clue what I’m on about. I like the challenges your videos present. I’m glad you don’t let the complainers get to you. When they pay you, they can complain, maybe.
Great work sticking to it! Accurate grids really make all the difference, and that all comes down to practice, practice, practice.
Well! Clever tips. It’s those little details that give polished results. You’re very good at both techniques & teaching. And I fancy that Kiwi accent of yours. Thanks for explaining the diagonals too. Very helpful. Cheers

is this initial collapse the method you refer to in your most recent instagram photo's comments; for making the central region be an intersection of four clover tiles rather than the single tile?
and i derp while i derp: i folded most of this on a 16x16 grid with 32 diagonals accidentally and only realized i needed the 32 near the end of the process. but while rewatching with an appropriately gridded square i noticed that you explicitly mentioned this was the same collapse as the 2x2 hydrangea/clover tiles, very handily preempting my thusly dumb question. thank you again for all your great work on these fujimoto tessellations and variations; i plan to post some photos to instagram of most or all of your exemplary models for which you've provided tutorials (this is one of the last ones for me to complete!)

Is there an update about the tutorial on this?
So, I have actually recorded most of the folding process but got sidetracked with life and was exhausted at the idea of redoing it. I plan to upload whatever I have, when I get around to editing it.
Hello my friend, your sharing is very good.🎉😊😊
I decided to come back and start at the start with your tutorials to understand what I was doing better lmao. I accidently made it on 16x16 but adapted the final steps to still get a nice finish, the star shape (as I call it) folding to make the clovers I struggled massively with last time clicked with me a lot better this time! Thanks! I'm a bit late finding your channel but I'm enjoying the content so much!
This was my very first attempt at tessellated origami. Both making the grid and the design! It took 10 hours but I did it, thank you so much for posting your design to follow! I love it.

I'm not exactly sure why, but I get sucked in. I've spent all day (unintentionally) trying to make the larger tessellation. I made a few of the one you demoed from 15 cm paper and then one from 7.5 cm to practice for making the larger one from 15 cm paper. You said you'd like to see what we do, and I'd like to show you, but I don't know how. I haven't yet succeeded with the larger one and I wanted to show you my more or less failed attempt to see if I was at least on the right tack. Is there any way I could do that?

How do you make the grid doe
It needs a 24 division grid, so the easiest way is to fold it in thirds then fold each section in half and then again and again. I use a ruler to measure to a third of the square, make a small mark and fold up to there. Then fold the other side to that crease. Hope that helps 👍
This kinda looks hard...I need to learn tessellation for my holiday homework but after seeing two videos, I think it is hard for a 13 year old to do this...But I like the way you made it look easy..Can u post some videos of origami tessellation on ancient showpieces?

初めからの折り方がわかりません?
You cut a hexagon from a piece of paper - there are instructions on RUclips. Then crease it in thirds from edge to edge - i use a ruler. Then crease each section in half, in half again, and then in half again. You will then have 24 divisions.
