    This test doesn't test for weak D, so my blood type comes out A-. But when i donate blood, I'm A+. I guess it all depends on whicb labs will do the typing.

      Weak D blood types are interesting! And you’re right, it depends on the testing purpose. The A neg typing is just in case you need blood, youd more than likely to be compatible with A neg or O neg units. But, your blood type is still safe to give to other A pos patients 😊

It highlights many details that are easily overlooked in textbooks, and it's great for knowing specific facts that I knew would be possible questions/answers on exams. Overall, I think it's a good tool in combination with other resources, but by itself it felt a little overwhelming trying to get through it. The answer is DRVVT, but I would like to know why?

    • @domilarae
      @domilarae Месяц назад

      @camilleramos8659 okay, this may or may not be helpful. The patient has a prolonged aPTT. The mixing study didn’t correct the aPTT, so it could be something systemic that’s inhibiting clotting, not a clotting factor deficiency. The DRVVT screens for lupus like antibodies that could be inhibiting the clotting process in the patient. It might be helpful to learn mixing study interpretations to understand why you wouldn’t perform the other tests.

    I knew I wanted a BS in Bio but had not really thought much past that. I was taking a Micro class at the local community college just because it was the only other "bio" class offered at the time. During the lab, the instructor kept saying, "When you are in the lab." I was absolutely clueless. I stayed after and asked, "This IS the lab for Micro right? What are you talking about??" 😂😂 Are you not in the MLT program? Uhhhh.... no? I don't even know what that is? So, they explained MLT program. I said well I'm getting a BS; is there a 4 year program?"" Yes, MT.. Well... does the college I will be attending offer it? Yes. I said well great! That's what I'm gonna do then. Decided my career path in about 3 minutes 😂. Never looked at anything else; applied to only ONE school (I didn't know there were over 100 candidates ,only 8 spots, and I was the very last interview- that was a rough week😂). That decision was 30 years ago. I'm a hiring manager now, and it's getting more and more difficult to find techs when so many are retiring and schools are closing. You have inspired myself, as well as many others in our journeys to becoming Medical Technologists, and will continue to do so for many years to come. Words cannot begin to express the level of gratitude I have for you. Thank you Dominique.

    I'm 1 year as an MLT at the middle of this month, and I still feel like an imposter and insecure. Everyone tells me I'm doing great and they love having me on the team. But, i feel like I'm way less intelligent than them, any time i make a mistake it's like my world is ending, and I don't know if this was the right move for me. I want to be a tech and I want to be a good tech. But, I don't feel like I am and it's a horrible feeling to feel like you're letting down patients and your team because you're not good enough.

      I think once you’re exposed to things more than once or more than a few times it’ll get better. Those people probably have years and years of experience so everything comes naturally to them at this point. It’s all about repetition so don’t beat yourself up. The fact that they say and show how much they love you shows that it’s all in your head 🫶🏾

    Did you do a 1 for 1 substitution of the gelatin for agar? I've never tried it but I've been told for success you have to add more gelatin to the mix than you do agar. If I'm not mistaken you have to add like 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 in order to get the results you're looking for.

    • @domilarae

    I wanted to ask how you had time to work while you were in school because mine is an hour commute 7-3:30 5 days a week. Idk what your schedule was like during school but girl with this much studying and exams, how does one even work?!

    • @domilarae
      @domilarae 2 месяца назад

      I went back to school at the start of covid, so my classes were mostly from home! And I worked from home since most places were shut down. I worked full time for my state’s dept of public health as a case investigator right up until I had to go to clinicals, then my schedule for rotations was 6:30a-3:00p. I kept a part time evening job during clinicals, but it made it hard to study. My classmate worked as lab assistant, so they were able to gain a year of experience while in school. They also lived an hour from the school/their clinical site, I think they made it work by being scheduled on evenings and weekends

    • @madisonv_7
      @madisonv_7 Месяц назад

      @@domilarae ohhh I see. That had to have been nice not having to lose time for studying by commuting back and forth and everything. I know my school offers during my clinical rotation time- same as your classmate- a chance to work as phlebotomy (or whichever rotation you’ve completed) as work after clinical/evenings and weekends, so I was thinking of doing that. However, yeah like you said, I’m afraid of it running into my time to study and get good grades for school. No pressure!!!! Lol

      Hey! Are there specific things about the organisms that you'd like to work on?Maybe try organizing your notes into flow charts. CDC has some great flow charts for identifying microbes as well. Check out this site for examples too : wordsology.org/high-yield-notes-2/microbiology/
