By looking itself I can tell that I can work long hours in the lab. It’s so satisfying. The only experience I had was during a biotechnology project back in high school. But, everyone out there says lab work sucks. Still can’t figure out what should be done. You’re videos are really motivating for me.
The work itself is pretty fun. I even like the independence of night shift. The shift hours aren't that great to me, but it is healthcare lol.
Also a recent graduate, of Biomedical Science in Zambia 🇿🇲. I had a job interview and I was grilled... Crazy insane questons. I got the job as a Medical Technologist and starting my on-the-job training 3rd of October. Our lives are literally two parallel lines 🤣. Maybe I should start a Vlog.
Congrats on getting the job!! I wish you the best as you enter the laboratory field. I’m curious on the interview questions, were they theory based or more about skills/clinicals? You should definitely vlog your journey! It’s a great way to help bring more awareness to the field 😄
@@domilarae I was intervied by a panel of three people: The Lab Manager, QA Manager and HR Manager. I spent about 30 to 40 minutes being interviewed. Technical questions such as What is a trend and a shift in levey jennings chart, what is the normal level for K, what do you understand by Ion selective electrode, what is lipemia and how do you handle a lipemic sample, describe how you used your skills to solve a problem in the lab, what are ISO standards, what Is Good Customer Service, what is the normal platelet levels, differentiate anemia and leukemia, salary expectations, do you have a criminal record, among other questions.
@@mikesikatema5807 thank you for sharing! My interview was very similar last October. They added questions on analyzer maintenance and troubleshooting qc, since a few analyzers I used in clinical rotations were the same at the job.
Congratulations!! That's some hard work. I'm in a CLS program now. 🤩
@@sorol79 how is your semester going so far?
❤
I love your videos! I’m a first year MLS student, I’m walking in your footprints LOL… ❤
Thank you! How are your studies going so far?
@@domilarae going ok! I just took my first exams for all classes, currently a B average. I can take some extra study tips or resources tho😊
That’s great! Good luck this semester. I have some study tips that I can sit down and film one day, thanks for the video suggestion
So do you have to pick up that 12 hour shift? And if so how often do you have to do that? And do that pay more you more for it? I’m an incoming student in this field and thank you for your videos, They motivate me.
Thanks for supporting my channel! Labor day was my holiday to work and Sundays are scheduled for 12 hrs at my lab. I get paid time and a half for holidays. I do pick up a few extra hours to help out, but it’s voluntary.
Mam Make a video of using different machines and there Usage in your Laboratory..
Thanks for the suggestion!
Ahh I love betta fish! Thank you for putting yours in a nice big tank, he's gonna love it.
Also nice Naruto shirt. :)
Thank you!! I had been on a long search for kuhli loaches, but couldn't find any. Luckily, the betta has been a great addition - he's very active. I'm working on getting a heater and a few more aquatic plants to add to the tank soon.
If you work during the day, are there more people and micro managing?
There’s more people, and administration is also around. But I work independently and there’s no micromanaging. 😊 it’s just a little louder than what I was used to on night shift 😂
Hello, I've recently graduated with a bsc in biology and my goal was to go med school however Im no longer interested. I am thinking about doing a master in clinical/medical laboratory science since I already have a undergrad degree. My question is would having a master degree benifit me more than getting into a cls/MLS training program? Would I be working for more money or am I going to get the average salary for someone who have done bsc in CLS/MLS or just a training program. Is a master degree in this field worth it?
The salary is based on having certification and work experience, so a masters wouldn’t help working on the bench. It is helpful later on, after you gain a few yrs of work experience. Honestly, whichever way is cheapest/fastest for you to get certified would be the route to go. A masters degree in the field is worth it if you know what path you want to pursue beyond the bench (admin, mgt, edu, lis/it, research, etc).
I agree with Dominique. You only need a relevant 4yr degree (must include hematology, immunology, medical microbiology, clinical Chem) and the clinical rotation. And you can't be a licensed CLS without those things. Although you can do research in the medical field, which is what I did for a few years. I recommend checking out the ASCP website for requirements and processes. So yeah, you're half way there with a bio degree 🤩. Good luck to you.
Sorry but I have a question I'm studying medicine laboratory science and I'm in third stage but still I don't know what is the difference between MLS and medical laboratory techniques ??💔
@shokhan, I assume you meant Medical lab technician?? The tech is a 2yr degree, and less responsibility than an MLS, which is a 4yr degree and training pgm. It is a Scientist position. More responsibility, analyzing, decision making. Whereas the tech runs machines essentially. Hope that helps
To add to SoRo’s explanation, Medical laboratory science is the same study as Medical Technology in countries outside of the United States
So what are u back in school for. Love ur videos. I just finished Medical Lab Tech in August. Got certified this month and got my first job at my first clinicals rotation cite and ur videos helped me alot. I'm really intrested in knowing what ur in school for.
Congrats on your milestones! I hope you have a great experience in your first job. I’m studying data analytics, which is a few computer science courses. I’m trying to get a feel for what I may study for my masters (can’t decide between data science and public health/epi)
@dominique is this kind of like software engineering?
It's similar, but with less coding and more statistics to analyze large datasets
@@domilarae Can you do a video on the reason why you’re leaving the MLS field
I don't plan to leave the field at the moment, I am just taking more classes to decide what to study for my master's (public health or data science).
How are you liking computer science so far?
It’s going good so far. Im getting the hang of it, there’s a lot to learn. It’s kinda similar to troubleshooting in the lab. I’m having to figure out why the code isn’t working, just like qc failing lol 😂
