Easy hack for pesky Conservatory Flies!
We have a large Edwardian conservatory and are plagued by cluster flies, something we had never experienced until moving to the country. They like to hide and hibernate along the ledges where the roof meets the walls and also like to snuggle down around the frames of Velux windows. Hoovering them out is difficult as the nozzle is always at the wrong angle and too big to go in far enough to suck them out. Once a year in Autumn we do a deep clean to get rid of them all and get rid of all the fly muck on the glass - see the video on the Karcher Window Vac with extension poles.
Last night we set a smoke bomb off before going to bed to make sure everything in there was dead and easy to deal wit...

It's really not good enough and recently there have been a couple of really bad fires here in Wales caused by tumble dryers. One family lost their house but got out ok. It's been years now and nobody is getting to grips with the design. The Zanussi we bought is still doing really well with no issues. Not the cheapest but worth the extra.

It’s unfortunate you can’t get this flavour anymore. First (when Nestle made this jelly, until 2005), the peach flavour was discontinued, now *this* flavour. On top of that, why was this jelly being confused with the non-chocolate confectionery, that Nestle makes? (I’m aware this was why, in 2005, Hartley’s now made this jelly) I always thought this jelly was, like, based on Nestle’s non-chocolate confectionery. My other four favourite flavours were lemon, lime, orange and blackcurrant.

We have the Breville Hot Cup. Great product apart from the disappointing water temperature which is not really hot enough for tea. I think the product would be great for an elderly person however as it’s much safer than using a kettle. The emergency “Stop” flow is also very effective in preventing overflows, should the dispense quantity setting not be set to the right value by the user.

The jellies have a nice 👌 taste 👅 and are puddings after the savoury meals 🥘 🍽️. Jellies are a good 👍 sweet taste. So what if jellies could perhaps 🤔 be bad for people’s health. I mix jellies with ice cream 🍨 🍦 or cream. I eat jelly from a bowl 🍲. Jellies are mixed with hot 🥵 and cold 🥶 water 💧. 👍👍👍

Can't speak for the Breville, but the Andrew James' Cook's Professional is PATHETIC. It will only dispense one average mug, before cutting out, so you have to give it a few minutes to coo; itself down before starting another. If you wanted to serve just 4 mugs of tea or coffee, it would take you the best part of half an hour. Also, after less than a year, it's "tired" and cutting out earlier and earlier, each day. Got this last Christmas and will be surprised if it sees me beyond this coming one (it's late September, now). There's just me (NOT a family of four) and it can't keep up with just one person who only uses it for hot drinks throughout the day. Whenever guests arrive, I have to dig out the old kettle I was hoping this heap of junk was going to retire.

We've had one of our Brevilles now for over 10 years and it's still going strong! Have two others that were for our B&B now closed and guests loved how quickly they could make a drink. It takes 30 seconds to dispense a mug so even making multiple drinks is fast and you can do 5 with the small one before refilling. Use it for stock cubes, jellies and all sorts and it is so useful! Freemans are still selling my model, the VKJ142 and at just £38. I paid more than that for all three of mine! www.freemans.com/products/breville-vkj142-hotcup-water-dispenser-black/_/A-61B584_?GoogleProductList&PLA&Electricals_SmallKitchenAppliances_Kettles&B584&ns_campaign=Electricals_SmallKitchenAppliances_Kettles&ns_mchannel=PLA&ns_source=GoogleProductList&ns_linkname=61B584&ns_fee=0&gad=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpc-oBhCGARIsAH6ote-Fegu7Hy8ypm5IdGH6nDMDMTd19WahGtm7nrxSvD2H0sHeUe2tPtoaAoa6EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I can't agree given what happened to my alleged "frost free" freezer, of which the cabinet completely filled with ice after two years and stopped working, but with the temperature still showing -18 degrees! Nothing I had done wrong, another of those design faults they do so well! Since this video randomly popped up into my feed even though I am in the US, the only conclusion I have for the excessive lint accumulation is because of the positive airflow design (pushes air through the heating element, drum, lint filter). Positive airflow dryers tend to accumulate lint fairly quickly since the drum is pressurized and anywhere lint and air can escape, it will since it isn’t a 100% seal. Negative airflow dryers (pulls air through the heating element, drum, and through the lint filter) don’t accumulate lint nearly as fast since the drum isn’t pressurized and rather is under a slight vacuum which will result in little to no lint buildup.

We bought the Breville about 2!/2 years ago. They dispense about 300ml of warm water - not really hot enough for tea - but bearable (just). After about 2 years it started to double heat/dispense water so - following the instructions - i descaled it two or three times with no improvement. As it was out of guarantee i stripped it down (i'm an engineer) - the on/off switch was heavily corroded so i cleaned it and saw that the contacts were heavily pitted. I reassembled the kettle and it worked ok but I wanted to replace the switch. Contacted Breville and their reply was that there were no user serviceable parts in the kettle ! If i'd been given the switch (cost to them probably 10p) i could have changed it in 2 minutes. Saw ASDA's own brand on sale for £25 - so bought one of them and binned the Breville. Sofar the ASDA model performs better dispenses more water which is hotter.

Both are still dispensing boiling water on demand and the amount has remained constant. But looking at the reviews of the Asda one it has some shockers and a lot of people are very unhappy with it, quoting the same issues as yours - are you sure you're talking about the right one?? .

We also have a completely contained lint trap; be warned, smaller particles will still get through and collect underneath the trap, and further into the pipe. Ours was completely blocked with sodden, heavy lint. The only solution is 6 monthly pull out, remove vent pipe and pull out lint from rear of machine as well as hooking out under the lint trap. If it's dry use a hoover pipe. As is with all things, regular maintenance is key.

I have an Indesit IDV75UK tumble dryer that "has been fixed" by Whirlpool (who own Indesit). Yet I find lint all around the outer of the drum and the bottom of the machine, even large clumps on the heating elemant. Luckily, I have caught this in time before any fire. My thoughts are now that Whirlpool hasn't done enough to stop the risk of a fire. It needs a metal box to capture the lint that can be hoovered out every now and then

Would have been a better design, safety wise, had they used a switch which the user had to keep pressed down while dispensing. It'll certainly be interesting to see if the Cooks Professional Hot Water Dispenser has the same issue. In anycase a hot water dispenser is safer for me to use, than a kettle, due to health issues affecting my hands.

    • @RottiDog21

It does on the Zanussi dryer but it's a better design than the Indesit. If wispy lint is escaping the trap you wouldn't see it going into the cabinet but once in there it will stick together and clump so it might be an idea to take the top off and check.

I would love the soft footbed but need the wider heel that it doesn't offer.

easier said than done, been trying for years but having put it on because of hormone drugs not overeating it's really tough to get it off again especially when you can't walk far - vicious circle! Still loving these sandals though and they are wearing really well.

That makes it a fire risk and you should go back to the retailer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if it is less than 6 years old and don't let them fob you off by telling you it's out of guarantee or to go to the manufacturer - you have no contract with them, the retailer took your money. It's a well documented fault so you should not have to prove it beyond pointing them to Google! www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-rights-act-aKJYx8n5KiSl

I bought one of these in 2018. From new it had the "green sticker" which the makers claim means it has been modified to address the fluff issue. It has only ever been used on the low heat setting. Also, to make it clear, the lint filter has always been cleaned after every use of the dryer, and the machine had (until now) never been opened up. It stopped heating this week and when I turned it to the high heat setting (which switches in an additional element) I soon got a scorching smell. I followed on line instructions for opening the case etc. to look at the element. The main case (i.e. the area within the outer cabinet surrounding the rotating drum) had a huge quantity of fluff and lint accumulated, and this blocked a Henry vacuum several times when sucking it all out. As to the heater, the dryer draws air from the interior of the case and so had obviously been sucking in lint-laden air and blowing it through the heater. The coils of the element that had been used were clear, but those of the element that had not been used were blocked with lint which was then scorching when that element was turned on. To effect a temporary measure, I thoroughly cleared all of the lint from the entire machine, cleared out the "high heat" element, and disconnected and removed the other element. (I work manufacturing heating elements so do know what I am doing). The element had not failed due to age or use, but had short-circuited to the case with what appears to be an enamelled piece of metal wire - which has legend stamped on it. What purpose that serves I know not but it had been in there from new and must have moved or corroded or something. So what do I do now. The experience of others of having difficulty with the manufacturers suggests that I am best to buy a new machine manufactured by someone else, throw this one way, and never ever again buy anything made by Indesit or anything else that has anything to do with Whirlpool. On the face of it, there is an underlying problem that has not been addressed. I conduct R&D with elements at work for my own benefit - I do not run risks at home for the benefit of multi-national corporations.

John, this is classic incendiary appliance territory so for heaven's sake try not to use it unsupervised or if you can afford to, replace it and put it somewhere while you battle it out. I can probably give you some advice on several ways to proceed if you can contact me. I battled with Hotpoint and won in the end but it's quite complicated. If you can get in touch via my website we can make contact. www.teifiriverbank.com
