How I Learn New Tricks (Progressive Drills) // Faction Tactical V1 // Aggressive Inline Skate Vlog
Royale is one of the best feeling tricks when you get them dialed. You might also find them to become easier and even safer than Frontsides.
So sick!
Im so pumped to finally be getting these
@@inlineonline Please keep sharing your journey. It's getting me motivated!
Yes Sir!
Nice man! I'm just getting back into after 20 years and I'm looking for channels of people working through the progression. If you don't mind me asking, how much do you weigh? I'm 230lbs and working on dropping weight just so the falls don't hurt so much haha.
I'm about 220-225 depending on, carrying alot of extra fat and muscle I probably don't need but some extra muscle mass does help with impact injuries. The only issue I feel is being super top heavy means my weight balance gets thrown off drastically if I lean to far in any direction. We just has to be a little bit more precise in terms of balancing our weight as big guys, it really shouldn't effect too much as long as you're moderately active. I was mountain biking and lifting for years before starting rollerblading so I've kept myself in alright shape, but I'd like to get back down to 200lbs, thats my comfortable weight
@@inlineonline I feel you. I’m in the same boat, I’ve been lifting for years so it’s a lot of muscle mass and stiffness. So I’ve switched up my gym workouts to cut back on hypertrophy and work in more athletic movements. I agree there are some benefits to have the extra mass but it does affect fluidity a bit. I’m not sure if it’s the case for you but getting low is something I have to remind myself of a lot. I’ve started doing box jumps where I try to land in a squat to help with that. Keep it up!
@@chauncey7242 yeah you're doing the right thing, The lack of flexibility is definitely tough for guys like us especially if we never really focused on it until now lol I can squat down to my calf's with a barbell on my back but as soon as I put the blades on I'm like Bambi struggling to bend my knees lmaaao getting low has beeny biggest enemy, it's a constant battle. Like you said I have to constantly remind myself to get low while skating
How did you like these skates? I’m thinking about buying a pair. Never skated Roces before
I love them they're super wide and roomie, I have a 275 Mondo and I bought the 8-9 shell to use with a 2nd skin liner. Fits great like that, stockliner wouldn't have worked for me
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
🙌🙌🙌
should get that elbow checked out. seems too sensitive
Elbow bursitis! Feeling better now, slammed last session right on it while learning unity grinds and it didn't hurt, first time that's happened since I injured it 😂
@@inlineonline Ok, I see. good luck with that
Damn dude some of those switch souls were looking better than the reg ones, good shit! High box looks fun as hell also. Looks like a blader built it 👀
It's weird I feel so uncomfortable in the switch soul grind but the form looks pretty okay on video lol I think it's cuz I'm turning into it way more on my switch souls and getting a wider stance
So ima sit here and judge you from the safety of my chair... lol. You are still waiting a while before you jump. It's like your jumping as soon as you get TO the rail. I think (if I understand correctly) You want to jump BEFORE you get to the rail... land at the start of the rail... and slide as far as you can. Right? All that said.... Big nope for me lol. I like your practice rail... and think MAYBE if I put it in some grass... :/
Yeah that's exactly whats happening, I'm triggering my jump right at the beginning instead of like a solid foot before it And you can definitely do it!!! Take it slow and figure out what seems most comfortable for you then get to sliding
Getting alot better homey.
Thank you bro!!!
👍👍👍👍
My man 🙌🙌
You have to let your body heal. Had a buddy that threw hammers all day every day back in the day. His joints are like he is a 70 year old.
Don't worry I won't be throwing any hammers 😅😅 you're right though
Nice job on that higher rail! I can't even jump that high without skates!
Yeah I wish it was a bit shorter but I'll take what I can get haha easier than I expected!
dope stuff!
I tried to find you some videos of people skating curbs but couldn't come up with anything good. I had been skating for 3 yrs when I saw this japanese skater in LA, and it was formative for my entire approach to curbs and p-rails. good vid. I always watch these and think about my own form and influences. re: constructive criticism take a look at 4:48, for every trick you are appropriately low in your approach, but then jumping way up and standing for the grind. approach at a medium height and save that beautiful squat for the p-rail
its for some reason its really tough for me to get low on my prail, I can get a bit lower on higher obstacles so I'm trying to find a way to bring my coping box to this park, that way I'll have the perfect practice setup. small prail for learning new tricks, then my 12 inch coping box for getting them comfortable, then the 2 foot coping box thats already there will be the "final test"
Low low stuff is low key scary and it’s along way to fall down lol
yeah its alot easier to lock stuff in but sometimes my feel just randomly shoot out and there is no time to catch myself lol
Yo first try on the big box! Good shit bro 💪🏼
had to full send it on the first try cause I was so scared of slipping out from that height haha I dont get low enough in my grinds so I'm basically standing up on the box, I need to fix that lol
Good stuff! How long did you skate for?
I just hit 5 months!
The dedication is real!
The grind must go on!!!
They still stock and sell rollerblades??? 😂😂
you'd be surprised!! theres so many its making a resurgence apparently lol I have $450 carbon fiber boots 😅
last night I landed on a quarter my first top acid, topsoul, toppstar, top mizu ,frontside to backside 180 back in stall thing and fishbrain you got this
bro thats awesome, I really need to get back to trying to skate transition again, one of my big goals is to skate mini ramp well we just don't have any good ones close to me
@@inlineonline same no minis
nice man ure doing good. Its all about ur mind and confidence. if u feel not confident u cant do that shit. Good job.
That's soo true
Looking good homie. With the Royales, try to turn your head/shoulders towards your right hip. That twisting motion will help keep your balance as you get boot down!
I'll try that, I worked on royales today and had the same issue of not dropping my front shoulder but I got boot down a couple times. We are getting there hopefully
Hell yes you are. Your rate of progress is truly amazing!
@@JeffDelreal thank you bro!!
2:07 😂🤷
😭😭
Watching ur viedeos in my own progress after didnt skate for 8 years. I love to see that. Keep going bro.
hell yeah thats awesome, and I'm about to go skate soon!!
Man, I really needed to see this video today ... I am months behind you in terms of progress and still learning the basics in shop carparks ... but the last couple of days it feels like I have made no progress and even gone backwards ..... so seeing your struggles really brings it home that its not just me. The comments others have posted are really informative as well .... I think I'll stick to flat tricks and transitions a lot longer before attempting your crazyness 😀
Yeah it's easy to get frustrated in the moment, this was a really tough session for me but you just can't let it discourage you! Sometimes I take a few days off and I feel like I can't do anything but it only takes 10-15 minutes before I'm right back to where I was. It's wild how mental this sport really is
I just started 2 months ago and you make me wish i had all of my progress on video
start recording!! it really helps
Damn bro I’m 12 5 years on rec and 2 years ago I started aggressive and focused on airs, grabs, and spins only did a few grinds (soul and frontside) now I can do soul, frontside, mizu, makio and learning acid, royal and mistrial we all take a diff amount of time to learn your learning super fast
thank you!! you're doing great keep it up
The full bag!!
I just came from the 7 day progeshon vid and I must say u got a hole lott better rispekt :)
Thank you!!! That was the plan haha
Keep up the good work! You're already better at Switch than I ever could.
Thank you! But I bet you could switch soul grind if you just sent it. It feels so weird but if you know how to regular soul your brain already knows how to switch soul just let it happen
I literally was told yesterday to stop progressing to fast and to dial in the basic grinds to the point where you can hold it on longer obstacles, happy that I got my Mario saftey grab on down rail tho 🤟🏾
Makio*
Yup locking in a nice grind and sliding it all the way is the best feeling, and I tend not to fall on my basic tricks much anymore so it's also safer than trying new tricks every session 😂 that was bound to catch up to me at some point
Keep up the progress big cheif! as you learn new tricks, keep refining the ones you already know. also you really should give your body time to heal - skating with injuries and compounding them is a good way to stunt your skating progress and possibly even stop you from being able to learn new things in the future. Be kind to your body, its the only one you have, and if you wanna be able to continue skating long term, you have to, have to take care of your body. future you will thank you.
yup you're so right, its really hard for me to take time off but Ive been a little bit better about it lately, the rains helps too lol
@@inlineonline if you need time off from aggressive skating, strap on your bigwheels and go exploring the city! you'll find lots of stuff to jump on and over if you look hard enough. that way you still get to skate, you get to develop new skills, assuming you dont wipe out you don't worsen existing injuries, also the cardio is great. (filming aggressive is way easier tho so i also understand the challenges there)
@@thebigfootblader I tried that just a few days ago and my feet were in so much pain after 10 minutes, I really need to figure out my fit for my big wheels. Hopefully I can get that dialed in, I could even skate to the skatepark thats 5 miles away if my feet would handle it
@@inlineonline yea thats a major contributing factor. what boots do you have for big wheels? FR and Rollerblade make some of the better options available. Powerslide boots are also good, but i've heard many many stories about weird pressure and pinch points. changing liners could also fix your fit issues for bigwheels. for me, the Myfit Crown liners are my fave, i have one for bigwheels and one for aggressive.
@@thebigfootblader ive got the rollerblade rb110 boots, right now I have myfit fatboy liners in them but I've tried all my liners. Maybe I'll pick up some crowns, I have super high volume and 120mm wide feet so I don't have many options, it needs to be a really thin liner around the foot but thick around the ankles. Maybe I need to do another heat mold on my fatboys but idk its driving me nuts, I've been fighting to find the right fit the entire time I've been skating haha
Keep up the good work and always have fun.
Love ur videos man. I learn right along with u bro.
hell yeah thats awesome
Set up is super clean dude!
thank you! just need to fix my driveway surface
MAKING ME WANNA GET SOME FACTIONS NOW UGH lol
they are really so nice, especially the V1 soul plate. Just looking at it gives me confidence lol
Nice man! I’ve been loving watching the progress! I just got some skates myself in mid march. So far I’ve skated all around town. I’ve done some drops off of almost 3 foot ledges and I even landed an 180 on a 3 stair set! Did a bunch of ramps and drop ins in a couple smaller skate parks. Tried a rail once there and it was so slick I wiped out immediately. Found a weird bench at a school nearby and ALMOST got a grind on there a few times. (Both times I’ve been landing on the rail with my feet sideways over it and it going through my little grind spot there, not sure what type that is) Your videos really make me wanna go to the hardware store and make a little box with some PVC coping to practice some grinds on!
sounds like you're doing frontside grinds!! And yesss you should absolutely build a little p rail at least, 8-10 feet with 2 inch pvc and you're good to go, if you can commit to 180's down 3 stairs you'll be able to commit to grinds and learn so much so fast. Once you lock in your first soul grind you're gonna be hooked lol
@@inlineonline just got my first "frontside" landed without crashing today on a low rail at a skate park with my brother lol ... proceeded to do them (and some wipe outs) for the next like hour straight lol super fun. Cant wait to try some of those soul grinds and acids and stuff next but man the way you gotta lock in the side of the frames without landing on the wheels or slipping off is a little intimidating! but my new PVC rail should help with that!
@@notgreatnate yup I also started with frontsides and was worried about commiting to soul tricks haha eventually you will be way more comfortable with souls than frontsides. Once you get the PVC rail it's alot easier mentally to commit
So happy to have found good blading content!
thank you!! I really appreciate that
I think you should bend knees much more, way more, do real squats
Antirocker just really eats wheels up quickly.
90a is for "Street" and 92a is "STREEEET" approved from abck in the day. 58mm 92a were goto senate wheels i always rode. That driveway just looks janked.
Yeah Im going to try to get it resurfaced or just force myself to drive to the skatepark more often. The driveway is just so convenient
those dead fuji wheels lost only a mm or so after skating park conc for a month for a month. that ground is gonna eat em up tho... such is life. do you like the profile of the wheel? If you need a wheel that really lasts, all of my MB wheels have had incredible lifespans
I really like the profile, feels super stable and comfortable in anti-rocker, I just ordered some dead bacemint wheels in 95a so hopefully those hold up better on my terrible driveway. Otherwise I'm going back to RB hydrogens, those wore down quick but never chunked
UFS is really better for this type of skating even though many can do it on raised heels. Get some CJ2s or CJ2primes.
Yeah I think I made a mistake not getting the UFS version, I have fifth elements and faction skates so I figured those wouldn't provide enough support. And I already had these rollerblade RB110 boots, But man I suck lol
Nice work! What also helped me was actually going over hockey skating drills and more general skating practice too. Be sure to check out Bill Stoppard, Flow Skate, Skamidan, Skatefresh Asha and many others here on RUclips. I believe all of this will definitely make anyone a better aggressive skater and you'll be able to recover out of bails without actually falling much more too.
Those guys were the ones who made a lot of the videos that actually watched in preparation for this but man I just suck lol I need to just kind of turn my brain off and go out there and skate to really get the fundamentals down before I work on wizard skating drills and advanced stops. The problem I'm having right now is every time I try to wizard skate my feet end up hurting so much after 10 minutes. I keep trying different liner and inso combos but every time the pain is really bad. Yesterday I left my house with my blades to just go for a ride around the neighborhood, My feet were on fire within 2 miles, It hurt so much on the way back I thought I was going to have permanent damage.. luckily my arches were just sore. I wish I got a USF wizard frame instead so I can use them on my aggressive boots
Something that might make it more fun, at least for me was to get some Shokz bone conducting headphones (or any headphone that works for you) and listen to some music while skating. I don't know your foot size but I am a believer that a flat 4 x 80mm or 4 x 90mm (for bigger feet like size US 11+) setup would be better for stability. I used the FR FR1 skate as my main urban/rec skate and they are very plush and comfortable. Buying and trying skates became my guilty pleasure though as I have so many now and enjoy trying them all.
About the wheels wearing down, if you skate indoors you will be amazed at how long they can last, the outside ground really eats up wheels
I do have a pretty solid indoor park about 45 minutes away from me but it's $20 each visit, which is more than I'd like to spend 😅
