    Hey Jim, I have heavy red clay soil in my area. would it be worth it to use an auger to make a 24-30in wide by 3-4ft deep hole and mix in compost in for the pawpaw tree?

    I have a question.. is it true that grafted cultivators will die back after 8 years or more of fruit production? With the root sending up suckers after?

    Hey Jim! I've been curious about pawpaws for a few years and wanted to add some to my yard. I've found some in the past out in the woods and I was thinking about transplanting them. I'm cautious because I read they don't transplant very easily. Any experience or suggestions you could share? Any precautions or preparations to consider prior to attempting this? Thank you for your time and advice.

    I think these paw paw trees dont mind defoliation early on because of that 7 inch long taproot that drops down before any leaves even grow. In this situation the defoliation seems like it should also slow root growth temporarily allowing you to keep them in the pots slightly longer.

    thanks for running the experiment Jim! good way to move growing pawpaws forward. edit: sorry i missed your reply to my comment from the other day. do you think that pawpaws can reliably fruit from containers given adequate water and nutrition? could even be in large root pruning containers.

    I have some pawpaws growing wild near me in SE MS. Any experience transplanting them? Suggestions/precautions? Any reason you're not mulching around yours? It would help retain water, hinder grass growth and breakdown over time feeding the soil.

    hey Jim! people are always talking about the pawpaw taproot. is there any research behind its super sensitivity or is it something that just gets repeated over and over. ive seen pawpaws in pots, though not often. i would image thats more because of the required chill hours so theres not really a reason to keep them in pots and be mobile. would these root maker/trapper pots fly in the face of the pawpaw taproot lore as it would be air pruned like the rest of the root? thanks for your time and videos 🙏

    • @pawpawchronicles-n-morewit1210
      @pawpawchronicles-n-morewit1210 Месяц назад

      The taproot does play an important role in the life of the tree in the way of water. However, rootmass is what pulls the nutrients from the soil feeding the tree. When looking at chill hours, the pawpaw only needs roughly 400 hours, which is only 6 days. I've found that potted up pawpaw trees will grow a new taproot once planted. Thx for watching 👀.

    What is it about trees that are so fascinating to men? I started trying to bonsai some local trees where I'm at, when they got big enough i said I'd make them porch trees in pots, now I'm planting them. Mostly for deer as well, got 7 apple tree from apple seeds this spring.

    I like your channel and your trees look great. I live in Northern Florida and am probably at the limits of where they will grow. I bought some stratified seeds last year and the plants seem healthy enough. I would like to get some named varieties but I am limited as to anything local. Before I lived too far north to grow them and now I am at the other extreme, lol. Thanks for what you do. Oh, wanted to ask where you are ?
