    no big city in america can compete with new york. chicagoland is flat and kind of boring to be honest. little natural beauty in cook county. only a handful of big cities are worth visiting and spending money as a tourist. chicago is not that interesting when you remove the tall buildings.

    Ive lived in half of the communities you listed and theres a few critical things worth mentioning.... Libertyville and Buffalo Grove are not places to live if you are single. -Libertyville is also VERY expensive EVERYWHERE! Evanston becomes a ghost town after 9pm on weekends. Most of the "college kids" go to Chicago to party or stay inside their homes, so you wont be seeing any outdoor parties or hearing nosies at most college towns. -Also, most families stay in after 9pm, so the nightlife is nonexistent.

    I spent the first 25 years of my life in NYC and still have family I visit regularly there and have lived in Chicago for the past 20 years, so i consider myself native level fluent in both cities. I missed NYC when I first moved to Chicago, but after a couple of years I came to realize that my life in Chicago no longer translates to NYC. My mortgage for a four bedroom home in Wicker Park (which is similar to a hybrid of Williamsburg, Park Slope and East Village) is only slightly higher than my rent for a one bedroom walk up on the Upper East Side. And Wicker Park is a far more progressive neighborhood than dull UES. The smallest bedroom in my house is the same size as the bedroom I had in Manhattan, and I turned that bedroom into my closet. I literally have too much stuff to ever return to NYC because no home in an equivalent neighborhood is large enough to accommodate me anymore. Maybe a $10 million brownstone in Brooklyn Heights or $25 million brownstone in Greenwich Village? My home has a garden, roof deck, backyard, but here's the best part - I'm STILL within walking distance of everything from sushi to Indian food to live music venues to clubs. I haven't had to give up much of anything about what I loved about living in NYC to have all of this in Chicago and a whole lot more. I'd have to give up 75% of my worldly possessions to find a place to move back to in NYC. Yeah NYC may have more "stuff" but let's be honest, here. Most people living (not visiting, LIVING) are too busy hustling to afford their studio apartment to take advantage of half the stuff they brag about having access to in NYC. Don't lie to me because I was one of you. You've been to Joe's once since you moved here. You still haven't been able to get reservations to any of the top restaurants yet. You can count on one hand the number of times you've hung out in any part of NYC other than your own borough or below 59th street in Manhattan. You only go to Katz's to flex when your friends or family are in town. And you still haven't gotten around to seeing a Broadway play, ballet, or the symphony. You spend your average weekend doing the same thing most people in most cities do - you join your local gym, meet your friends at the closest bar on your block, get General Tso's chicken on DoorDash, and watch Netflix while eating it. Your life would translate just fine in Chicago. For a good chunk of you, your life would translate just fine in Cleveland. Posers.

    So I’m sure NYC has better public transportation if 78% of its population uses it regularly. But how do they not have a train that goes directly to LaGuardia? Thats ridiculous. Chicago’s transit line goes to both Midway and O’Hare. Just saying….

  • @jonnietruth4083
    @jonnietruth4083 14 дней назад

    And let’s talk about these landscapers one more time… Do you think they stop for the mother pushing the stroller? No of course not. Imagine your child, ingesting bugs and pesticides and round up pulverized and blown in the air. I understand it’s every towns problem but that’s Elmhurst in a nutshell. The bright side is winter. They all go away. Summer… Filthy… Winter they’re gone.

  • @jonnietruth4083
    @jonnietruth4083 14 дней назад

    Let’s take off the rose colored glasses for just one second and address something about Elmhurst. Your neighbor hires these landscapers that will trim your property nicely and pulverize everything. And then… Guess what they do with the dirt and debris? They blow all their debris on their neighbor. And in the street. So all your pesticide bug infested animal feces, infested landscape debris that has round up in it is blown on your neighbors house. Or they blow it in the street so you drive down the street every day recycling stuff that should be left in the lawn, but now it’s dust in the street. Chopped up bugs… Round up… Pesticides… And that will go on every single day living in Elmhurst. It’s filthy town that looks like something pleasant. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a nice town, but it’s a filthy town with nonprofessional landscapers on every block every house. It’s the blower… That tool is stupid. And in the fall… They chop up those leaves and don’t pick up one leaf. All of it goes onto your house all from your neighbor. Crazy huh?

    What most people do NOT understand is that those who control the State & Federal treasury are placing a great financial burden on the homeowners and the landlords by constantly increasing their taxes and creating new regulations that restrict our ability to keep paying for the services that they say we have to provide for those who do not want to work! Since I purchased my home the property taxes have increased from $1200 a year to $6300/year. And I know of others that have been taxed out of their homes because of its location! They are retired and the taxes are more than their retirement income!

    • @ralphieandryan
      @ralphieandryan 15 дней назад

      Thank you for sharing your perspective on the challenges that landlords and homeowners face in Chicago. Rising property taxes and the introduction of new regulations can indeed create significant financial pressures, and it's crucial to have conversations about the impacts on individuals, especially those on fixed incomes like retirees. Your personal experience with the increase in your property taxes highlights a broader issue that deserves attention and discussion. It's important for community members and policymakers to consider these realities when making decisions. Thank you for bringing this to light and contributing to the conversation.

      Absolutely! Berwyn really does stand out as an appealing option. For those considering it, it's noteworthy that Berwyn's overall crime rate is about 9 per 1,000 residents, placing it near the average for all cities and towns across America. This makes it a relatively safe choice, combined with its affordability and the beautiful bungalow homes that characterize the area. Thanks again for highlighting Berwyn-it's valuable for potential movers to have this kind of detailed insight!

    lol anyone living in IL aka the 2nd HIGHEST taxed state for home ownership makes me giggle. My brother and I both owned a 200k home and I was paying $1,000 annually in AZ, while he payed $4,000 in property taxes. Can you imagine lighting 3000$ a year on fire? If you took 3000$ a year and put it in an IRA with 6% interest, you would have 254,000$ at the end of a 30 year mortgage. Heck no.

    • @ralphieandryan
      @ralphieandryan 15 дней назад

      Thanks for your insight on property taxes! Indeed, Illinois has one of the highest rates, and the contrast with Arizona really highlights the differences. However, many find Illinois' top-notch school districts and four-season climate justify the cost. Plus, while investing in an IRA is great, real estate in the right market can also appreciate significantly, offering a tangible asset and potential rental income. It's all about weighing these factors against personal and financial priorities. Thanks again for sparking such a thought-provoking discussion!

      @ralphieandryan 15 дней назад

      Thank you for sharing your concerns. Chicago, like many major cities, faces its share of challenges, including debates over taxes and public safety. However, many residents and investors find value in the city's vibrant culture, economic opportunities, and real estate market, which has shown resilience and growth in various areas. Understanding all facets of a city is crucial, and it’s important to consider both the challenges and what many people love about living here. If you’re interested in a deeper dive into any specific issues or benefits, I’d be happy to provide more information. Thanks for engaging in the conversation!

I understand where you're coming from, and indeed, like many cities, Chicago's real estate market has its mix of highs and lows, making it a B/B+ market in general evaluations. The video aims to highlight areas where Chicago excels and offers unique opportunities that may not be immediately obvious. It's always great to get different viewpoints, and your skepticism is definitely a valuable part of the conversation. • @ralphieandryan
      @ralphieandryan 15 дней назад

      Thank you for highlighting the property tax increase in Cook County. It's indeed a significant issue, especially with such sharp hikes. Property taxes are assessed based on rising property values, which can reflect a healthy real estate market but also result in higher costs for homeowners. Discussing these fiscal policies and their impacts is crucial. If you're looking for strategies to manage these increases or want to understand more about their implications, I’m here to help discuss and navigate these challenges together.

      You make a really insightful point! High property taxes in Illinois do indeed play a role in moderating home price fluctuations, which can provide a more stable market environment compared to places with lower taxes but higher volatility, like California. It's a complex balance between tax rates, market stability, and public services, and each aspect influences homeowner decisions differently. Thank you for adding this perspective to the discussion-it's important to consider all angles when evaluating real estate markets. Appreciate your comment!

    The problem is these communities are only for people with advance level degrees or trust fund kids. The rest of us have no chance to live in these communities. I grew up in Waukegan, now live in Winthrop Harbor. I would have been looked down upon as a kid in the 80’s. The only reason white people live in Waukegan is for the historic homes along Sheridan rd. The rest of the city is a ghetto, that I would suggest staying away from.

      Thanks for sharing this data! It's really eye-opening to see how perceptions of safety can differ significantly from the actual statistics. The fact that Chicago isn't on the list of the top 100 most dangerous cities based on the crimes you mentioned, and seeing NYC's placement, provides valuable context for anyone considering these cities as potential places to live. Such information is crucial for making informed decisions and helps to challenge common misconceptions. Thanks again for bringing this to the conversation-it's important for a well-rounded understanding of these major cities!

      @@ralphieandryan You're welcome. It also reveals just how pervasive and powerful right-wing media is. In case you're unaware, right-wing media attacks Chicago 24/7 because Democrats control the city. Republicans have tried to unseat Dems from power, unsuccessfully for decades. Because right-wing media is so loud and persistent, they're able to set and control the narrative. The plain fact is that Houston is more dangerous than Chicago but you'll never hear this anywhere. (I am neither a D or R.)

      Thanks for your comment! High-end shopping isn't for everyone, but it's just one of the many amenities that can add to the appeal of a suburb for those who enjoy it. Retirement can mean different things to different people, and having a variety of options, from quiet parks to vibrant shopping areas, can make a suburb versatile and attractive to a wider range of retirees. Appreciate your perspective!
