    Thank you so much for taking the time to do such an in depth analysis of a machine you have owned for long enough to REALLY know it! This is the exact kind of video that is going to part me from a bunch of my money, most likely with zero regrets 😄! Happy sewing! Edited to add a question: I’ve never used a machine with an automatic thread cutter, and I have a hard time picturing how there would be enough of a thread tail left in the needle and coming up from the bobbin for it not to get unthreaded when you start sewing again. Clearly they must have solved this issue, do you find that it works fine??

    What needle & thread combinations do you use on the Juki 2010Q. In bag making I always have trouble sewing the heavier straps. I am considering the Juki TL machines which I hope have the power to handle say Tex 70 thread. What do you use and you're recommendations?

    • @matantequilting
      @matantequilting 6 дней назад

      Hi! I use cotton thread (50wt) when piecing quilts with a size 80 needle. When I'm sewing thicker layers (like in bag making), I use a size 90 needle with the same thread. I'm not familiar with the Tex system, but I recall that Juki Junkies posted something about this (including a thread / needle combo chart) in this video: ruclips.net/video/ZU809P35v-s/видео.html . There are also great resources in the video description (like a link to a video about sewing with industrial threads). Happy viewing!

    Looks great. What if your pattern doesn't allow for the extra fabric to trim off? I've been using an accuquilt die for some hst's and even that isn't 100 % perfect depending on how you sew it and press it.

    • @matantequilting

    I love the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers. I’ve only had them for a month and used them on one quilt made exclusively with HST. You trim the HST before it’s pressed open so you have only two cuts

    • @dorothyyoung8231
      @dorothyyoung8231 6 дней назад

      I use any old ruler and create my own “channel” with masking tape. And I trim them before pressing open so I only make two cuts. I place my tape (sometimes two or three layers), then trim ONE HST, press it open , then verify the measurement. That way I can make any needed adjustment before triming a zillion HSTs. It’s so great there are many tools and many ways so we can each try various methods and use the one that suits us best! Thanks, Shelley!

    Regarding the tape on the throat plate: I use a utility knife to cut along the crevice between the throat plate and machine. That way you can remove the throat plate but the tape can remain in place of it’s still in good condition. Regarding oiling, I always had to look at the mannual to remember WHICH holes need oil. I got some page hole reinforcement stickers. I put one on each hole that needs oil so it speeds up my routine.

Phew... that was quite an experience. I used the first time bias binding. But what really was a challenge for me was the sewing the gusset with back and front. Oh, these curves... But at the end I made it and it's finished now and I hope my mom will be happy with her birthday gift 😊 Thank you very very much for the videos. They were most helpful. I'm a quilter and I've had my TL-2010 for 7+ years. I also have a computerized Juki HCL-DX7 which is very nice, but I use the TL most of the time. I agree with almost every point you've made, except that I hate the foot pedal thread cutter, my automatic needle threader has never worked right, and opposite side of the coin, my walking foot works great - I've never had a problem with it and I use it often, especially for quilt bindings. I don't mind pushing the thread cutting button, and I just thread my needle by hand - I've become so used to it that it doesn't bother me at all. I bought a Juki brand aftermarket 1/4" foot and it gives me perfect scant 1/4" seams. Also, like you, I leave the huge extension table on almost all of the time. I love this machine!
