And what are people willing to pay for? Are you making a comic? Do you want to make money on patreon? Wanna know what tricks work? lol, me too.

This is such a good video, thank you for your analysis !
Oh, now you should tell us who is the artist making 35 000 a month! I need to personally analyze their conttect!
Wish I remembered! lol I'm too good at keeping everyone anonymous😅. I deleted my spreadsheet awhile ago. What I remember is that they had a big following on Webtoon, and their Patreon was NSFW focused.
Sorry the audio is quiet! I have seen your comments lol. My mistake. Sadly, I can't fix it because I no longer have my original video file/ audio files and I can't edit the sound volume in youtube. So, I'm sorry if you can't hear this in a loud space, I suggest waiting until you're in a quiet space to listen😅I do try to add subtitles when I can and this one has them!
What was the resolution and the size in pixels of each jpg file? I’m trying to figure out what size is best
Hi! I tend to work in page format, so I stick to an 8.5 X 11 or A4 size paper. For me, that can hold 3 to 8 panels depending on panel size. And I keep the resolution at 300ppi. If you're interested in printing through amazon, like I did, you can begin setting up your book on the Kindle Direct Publishing page (you can have a draft on here for as long as you like) and see their printing size options. Some are available in many countries and some are only available in a few. So pick the page size that best fits your goals!
@@isabelle.ranson okay thank you for the info!
If your comic got accepted to be an original by weebton company they will pay you per episode for a specific number of chapters and the payout depends on the contract , for example if you signed a contract whit weebton that say "1000$ per episode for 50 chapters then they expect you to post 50 chapters on time in return for 50000$ so in general they will pay you 1000$ per episode you post" but this depends on the money you agreed on in the contract from what I heard the payout can varies from 500$ to 2500$ per episode , that's for originals but OFC canvas get paid very very very less , you should have a good art style and a decent story to be selected as an originals , I only see canvas creators complaining here on RUclips about the payout
Thanks for sharing those stats! The few original creators I know aren't comfortable or able to share their income. I always assumed their silence was because of the contracts they signed. So I was never sure what webtoon paid their creators. I think the canvas folks complain more because we have the freedom to, we haven't signed any agreement not to share or critique or evaluate. And because we're still learning how this industry works. And while not every canvas story has what it takes to be successful, there are a lot of very talented creators on the platform who hope to one day make a partial living making art. Patreon is one of the better ways to do that for canvas creators (at the moment). So I'm hopeful for us all!
@@isabelle.ranson There is that Korean weebton artistI can't remember his name , they paid him 2500$ per episode that mean 10000$ a month and the comic is only translated to Korean so it's only posted on naver there is no English version so imagine how much a normal comic can make just whit a Korean fanbase but the contract was strict he signed a 100 episode and it should be posted on time , I believe that comics like true beauty and lore Olympus makes much more and more !! And I hope for your success in the future 💕
Today 21st
Yes the comic has been out since Feb. This video is a few months old 👍
for 35k a month I would draw all day long for my patreons
darling i have every sound equipment to the max just to listen to this video. great vid btw 👍
My webtoon series titled "The Gate". It's an action adventure. Character named: Drey. 😂 It has 3 episodes already.
Thank you so much for the very informative video. I’m very interested to see how AI will develop in the future. I feel when digital art hit the market a lot of traditional artists we’re similarly concerned. Im curious if AI could be used on the artist own works and trained to create new original art for the artist which would streamline the process for webtoon creators, creating a more balanced lifestyle. TBH I learned so much in this video and I’m curious to hear more of your unfiltered opinion on this as it develops.
I consciously held back my opinions for this video 😂😅 because I wanted it to be easy to listen to and digest for new creators who are wanting to use AI. To share our perspective without just being angry. But a lot of us are angry! Overall, I'm worried and disappointed. But yes I am so curious too to see what's going to happen. It could go in any direction. But I expect that it will be pushed as far as it can go, since we tend to do that with new tech. So I think it'll get scarier for creatives before it gets better.
I agree with most of what you're saying, but recommending creative partnerships as future proofing over using AI is mental. The chances of a partnership surviving are abysmal, and even though AI comics will probably fail eventually, the odds there are better for the creator. In established comics like DC, they're all getting paid to do their part and nothing more, it's not a partnership, it's a contract.
"I've always wanted to make a comic but my art isn't good enough" NOOOO never say that! Every amateur drawing will be better than any ai "drawing" by a long stretch. Why? Because you can feel the passion and creativity that went into it
On a totally unrelated note, was the Christopher Paolini book any good? I read his inheritance cycle when I was in elementary and have recently been looking at his recent publishes but am unsure of weather or not to jump back into his books 🤔
Wish I could give you a recommendation but I didn't read it either! It's hard to know what the true average review is of the book, because so many people gave it a bad review for having an AI cover, and others are giving it 5 stars to balance that out. But check out the reviews on good reads and see what you think!
What software did u use? I’m making a WT myself so looking for ward to that how to promote on social med video!
Hi! If the video is complicated enough I use Adobe premiere to make it. But if it's simple enough I make it directly on Instagram!
I think the best future for the use of AI in the arts is that it's just to be used as a tool/assist, not do the whole job for you and be trained on materials that are either public domain or permission has been granted and compensation given. Still going to be something tricky to figure out.
I’m appalled by the people who use AI and make money in any creative field.
Hello!! I know im here a little too late too but, can you please tell me what are the chances for my comics to get popular if i post black and white comics (like traditional mangas) on webtoon canvas?
Hi! I can't say for certain. I remember years ago the webtoon staff was encouraging colored comics because they believed they did better. But there are black and white ones that do great too! Secrets of Soulford is one example that is mostly black and white, but the creator also uses texture and occasional color to add dimension and significance. Black and white also is a huge time saver! If it's the right media for your story or the right one for your time restraints, then you should be just fine ☺️👍
@@isabelle.ranson thank you very much for the help!!!
Another very amazing video ! Thank you ! And yessss I do love a grey vilain, but sometimes black and white is very good for the story your trying to do. I am thinking, are grey villains appealing to older audiences as well ? The age of the audience is a very, very good question. I am doing conventions selling my art, and recently, my first book was added to my table, and it's a book you would consider for children. But I noticed that it only appealed to women aged 20 or more (so I am targetting them now with my cute stuffs) Where I am going with this is : knowing your target audience is so important! But sometimes you can't control everything. I tried to really go deep into my reflection of what my target audience might like for my next story. It is OK since I am my target too after all, but things might always happen. I hope you manage to shift your audience and pardon my rambling, 😅 I'd love to hear more insight about how the next story is going for you. Will there be older people join your Patreon ?!
I personally love a villain with a compelling past! So I love the grey ones! And I totally agree with you about the audiences, we can try to aim for a target but can't control everything. And so many adults love content that was intended for kids, especially when it's just a solid story anyways! As for my future audience, we'll have to see. I won't know much for awhile! Fingers crossed!! Also, selling your art at a convention? And a book?! That's awesome! Can we see your stuff anywhere online?
I am 2 years late for this vidéo but, Thank you ! I didn't know you did vidéo, I love love love red Archer and I can't wait to read more of Dream Boyfriend. I did some research too for my future comic project, but your numbers are a far deeper search than what I did, but it really solidifies some of the things I had noticed. Have you thought about driving traffic to your own website and getting some money out of adsense ? On my side, even if I plan an "adult" story, I am not ready for NSFW... I could change my mind for 35k tough 😂. Thanks again!
I haven't created my own website for ad revenue yet, but I've seen a few other creators do that successfully! And God I know right?! 35k is crazy

Very interesting :D

great edits 🤩 , now it makes me wonder if you've been making them with only you know how many audio snippets for the last 2 years and you just montaged them all together for this long-form video ? 🤔 Funny and very enjoyable in any case 🤗
Yes that's exactly right. These are examples of shorts I made over the years. Instagram and tiktok are great platforms to broadcast your web comics. It's basically free advertising! I'm now making more little videos for my current story and eventually I'll post a collection here as well. I hope to use these as examples, for brainstorming purposes
You're back!! Oh my God I'm so happy! 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤

I miss your videos so much! Hope your new story is going well! ❤❤🎉
Aw thank you! I hope to post more videos once my next story is underway!
Thank you this is so helpful. I have a question about Patreon . If your comic is webtoon formatted how do you release early pages/ episodes on Patreon? pdf? reformatted into pages or one long scroll? thank you
Hi! So sorry I haven't responded yet. But the fast answer is yes, I post my early access in different layouts. Sometimes it's in webtoon format, sometimes it's a page format. Patreon currently doesn't allow us to upload PDFs unless it's a google drive link, so jpegs and pngs seem best for now! I like posting more to patreon because it has room to be a higher resolution. Easy answer is that you have options!
@@isabelle.ranson thank u ❤️

Ooo good channel
fell in love with your personality five seconds in. also really appreciate the stats
Why are you so beautiful 😮?
your videos are really good, great advice, and excellent information, you do such a good job explaining webtoon aspects. I am both an architect and a gardener when storytelling. great job!
Just saw all your comments! Sorry I stopped getting notifications for youtube for some reason. I'm glad these videos were helpful! I'm curious how your reformatting went?? Mine took forever. How did yours go/is going?
great video, I did a manga-style setup, but i have a feeling its going to be hell to format webtoon format to comic book format ugh Im scared lol.
I could do a Patreon with NSFW easily because my comic sometimes deals with it being part of the story, webtoon will butcher your comic and I'm tired of it. great video. I still question some of their earnings. The numbers on webtoon never really add up. Thank you for sharing.
This is the most objective, rational and valuable analysis I managed to find on the Web so far. The only doubt that is making me going crazy is how can they sell NSFW exclusive content if the ToS and Policy of Patreon doesn't permit that kind of content? Also, as you probably know, there have been some conflicts between Patreon and NSFW creators in the past 1-2 years.
Patreon does permit NSFW art for the most part as long as it isn't outside of their adult content guidelines, which can be subject to (and have) changed/enforced differently depending on who on trust&safety is looking at it. As long as they're not making anything clearly disturbing, it's mostly ok.
I haven't heard about the conflicts between Patreon and NSFW creators! I should look into it. It's also so interesting how quickly guidelines change. I remember a few years ago the webtoon guidelines about violence and NSFW were more vague. And now they have a very detailed protocol for what they allow/ don't allow. Now both webtoon and patreon ask if your work is 18+. My guess is that they realized how profitable it is.
This was a helpful video. I'mma go make me a Patreon soon. The character monthly diary is a good add on for patrons and so is the NSFW!
Hey Isabelle! great video, super useful. I'm at that point where I want to make a living out of my webcomic so this was just what I was looking for. Thank you so much for all the work you put in this. You certainly gave me some food for thought.
Great video, it was very helpful! I always wondered how patreon works when an author finishes their first comic and starts a second one. Do they take their patreon down and make a new one, do they delete the content on there (or leave it there) and post new stuff on that same account, or do they just leave it as is and make a new one for the new comic?
Hi! Sorry for the very ate reply. And it's totally different for everyone! I have seen other creators keep their patreon accounts open for the entire in-between period. It let's the readers decide if they want to continue supporting you, even in a temporary silence or slow down. I paused my account for a few months, while I was taking a break so my patrons weren't getting charged for a quiet time. And then I restarted the charges once I was producing some content again. My work flow is definitely coming and going, and most of the patrons left. But I'm confident people will come back and support us once we're back up and running again!
You're so inspiring and you helped me so much, I've been completely lost about what to do with my comic - because it's a story I'm working on over eight years and I think it's something that has potential to go big, so I'm really scared about things like webtoon taking copyright or idk what. My goal is to make a physical copy of it both as comic and as a book. But I guess my biggest - let's call it a dream, is to make my story into an anime or a game. I thought the only way to reach that effectively and without spending too much money is through webtoon. Also because it's been done before, so it's possible, and because they'll have the connections and the exposure for actually making it work. I still haven't figured out what i'm going to do... But one thing for sure, you gave me so much more to think about and consider. Thank you.
Hi! Sorry for the late reply but I hope you're doing well and maybe have started posting on webtoon?? :) I think webtoon canvas is a really beneficial platform for creators. You keep the copyright and you have the potential to gain a loyal following. Plus, proving you have a following helps when trying to get traditional publishing contracts, and maybe even film ones! I used to be worried that publishing companies saw webtoon as competition, that because it was online for free, people wouldn't buy the books. But we've learned that's not the case! Physical copies of Heart Stopped and Lore Olympus (and more!) continue to sell in bookstores from people who have free access online anyways. People just love owning books! Best of luck to you and your story!!!
You're so impressive o my god
It is kinda lame webtoon sends out “we miss you” E-mails. I mean I would mail one back with “If you miss me so mush pay me a kings random.”
Thank you about all this info!!! ❤
the only critique I have of this video is that the audio is too low

Thank you so much for this important info! I'm going to draw my own webtoon soon, and your videos actually helped me a lot! Goodluck & Thanks again😊 Wish me success💓
Without realizing, I've been doing everything right for the preparations of my comic's remake launch. 1- I really want to print my stories one day, so I decided to draw in page format (but it was mostly because I prefer to draw that way lol ended up being the best option for many other reasons too) 2- I'm going with my gut feeling regarding the story (it's a remake so I already have the main plots, just changed a few things and got something new and more intricate than before without having to actually type it all (which I hate)) 3- I eliminated the love triangle (I made a different love triangle story and realized after comparing these two that the one for my current projects was sub-par, so just threw it in the trash and made it into a platonic love kinda situation XD) 4- I've reduced the story a lot (the first version didn't get to the main plot until chapter 8, months after release 😬💀 so I reduced it to two chapters (around 40 pages) and even added additional lore which wasn't in the first version, I'm very proud of it :'3) 5- I made it I to a more universally Cannon story (I have a whole created universe with a system and a goddess, which are now mentioned there, for the sake of any future cameos or returns I might want to make, they can all be cannonical according to the system of this universe) I don't know who I'm writing this for XD I just wanted to say cuz I'm really proud :3 Thanks for the great video once again! I got so inspired! Can't wait for the next! 😭❤✨
I love that you're putting so much thought into this project!! You'll have to share the info so we can see!
@@isabelle.ranson Thank you :'3 if you really want me to, I could show you, I just don't want it to be self promotion XD I felt proud of myself and wanted to share my progress as a story teller, but if it's really alright then I could truly show it to you! I haven't shared much about the new version but I still have the old one up and I shared the redesigns of the MLs on my webtoon posts, it's called Accidentally a Mermaid (future title will be "Enchantments of a Sea Maiden" hshhshshs I love it so much more) thanks for showing interest, it warms my heart TvT
