I've no data, no maps, and no idea where I am. Just got to keep riding west I guess! Today crossing Turkey to try and get into Greece asap, but some insurance issues and road quality make the ride a little longer than anticipated...

I'm heading home to Ireland with the GS at last. Leaving Tiblisi we pass by South Ossetia, Russian occupied territory since the invasion in 2008 - something we tend to forget about in the west but is still very much a reality for Georgians living here. Then across the border and back through Turkiye. It's a long way home! If you enjoy these videos, feel free to get me a coffee or help me fill t...

What can I say... I´m Spanish. 🙂 And I also own an R1150GS !!!
I am from the Netherlands, bought a r1150gs 2 weeks back and started a journey to Portugal. Have done around 6000km in 2 weeks with it, its just wonderfull.
What chance that you could interview Peter Murtagh for the channel? I'm going to get the book, thanks for alerting me to it. You are spot on about biking in Ireland. Aside from the weather and indifference to bikers from many motorists, there is the scourge or 'surface dressing', where local councils spread gravel on newly repaired road. Dangerous and should be illegal!
Gosh! I can only imagine the work that went into this. Brilliant, erudite, poetic and inspirational! Is it possible to watch and listen to it in Spanish with English subs? Would help us Spanish learners...
Stunningly beautiful 850. I'd love a tour of it.
Europe’s top motorcycle destination? Really? The Picos are well worth a visit and are really convenient for nervous travellers from the U.K. but there are better places out there, much better places and many of them less crowded.
Great video mate, I've been looking at getting one as I'm now too old for sports bikes (62 with knackered knees and shoulders) and you've made my mind for me.
Reference to Numantia and Mexican American war of 1846: Do you consider the race with which you have to deal? Who are they, then? It is the arrogant assertion of superiority and the real or affected contempt with which we have treated their race, that now nerves their arms and swells their veins! They are not merely the poor, feeble, down-trodden Indians who fled before Cortez at the first blast of his trumpet! The best blood of the hidalgos of Spain flows in many of their vein; they have cherished recollections of their ancient renown. These are the same people who for 70 years kept up war upon Holland, A war redounding neither to the honor nor the profit of the Spanish monarchy, but one invincing the indomitable spirit an haughty obstinacy of the nation of which it was waged. These are the brethren of that people who with ecstatic fury and persevering resolution resisted and finally expelled from their soil that northern Caesar and mighty conqueror, Napoleon, whose power over shadowed the earth and whose name was synonymous with victory! He seized upon Madrid (as we may seize upon Mexico) but Spain was not conquered. His brother sat upon the Spanish throne, and this was but the beginning of the war. They are the descendants in whole or part of the Celtiberians, who are said, in ancient history, never to have sighted in death--the terror of the armies of Rome, and who, in the defense of Numantia, their last remaining fortress, preferred perishing by famine, than to submission to Roman aggression; and in part, of the Suevi and Visigoths, who finally crushed that colossal Power, Rome. They are Spaniards, who walk the streets and highway, carrying the stiletto under their sleeve, the dagger under the folds of their cloaks, and bide their time. The race has deteriorated; but still blood will show itself, at the distance of centuries, when the cup of bitterness overflows, and when the oppressor least expects it! -John bell of Tennessee on the war with Mexico
Super approach. Love the poetry you included. And what with the whole motorbike thing in your videos - class!
I recently bought a R 1100 GS, had it before two times. I just love pure bike feeling’s…
Well done. Great review in the beautiful irish country side 😊
Really very good review. I bought a 2011 t100 and I absolutely love it. I had a bonnie t140 e brand new in 1980 sold her in 88 and regretted it. So after having a katana 1100, 955 speed triple , Harley road king, Harley Dyna wide glide ( which I still have ) BMW r 1100s mamola replica ( kept that too ), gen 2 heyabusa, v,strom 1000 I spotted a really immaculate one owner t100 with all paperwork and only 5000 miles from new. I've had to put new tyres on due to the originals being cracked but now she's serviced and A1 I'm loving this bike and she's a keeper too.
they not the tractor ( that is hd) it's elefant, I'm own couple mopeds but elefant is for long run, they no like frequently on/off, all the boxesers consumption oil like great long term engines, be force with you
It'd be interesting to see and hear some of. the people that you meet.
The GS has always been my dream bike. First came the passion for the Boxer engine, then the love for adventure followed, and there’s nothing better than combining the two-hence my love for the GS. I was born in the '90s, and after watching Long Way Round, who didn’t fall in love with those machines? I want, and will have, an R1150GS, without a doubt a simple and robust machine. Thanks for the video mate. Now I’m following your friend Mal vs Machine and watching his GS series. Cheers and ride safe! Peace. ✌🏻
Hope you find one for yourself sooner rather than later! 😈 Thanks for leaving this comment, so glad you enjoyed the vid and are enjoying Mals vids too, hes a legend! 😎🏍️💨
Just loving seeing real adventure riding keep safe
I will, so far so good! Thanks Danny 🫡🏍️💨
Agree with everything you say! I have a 97 1100 (they are similar in many respects) with 90K on the clock. Got back from South America recently, been there twice, Africa twice and New Zealand two up with my wife. It's simple, tough, reliable and comfortable two up and it is now the only bike I own. I have no plans to change it even after riding a 1250 in South Africa for a few days and being worried that my 11 would feel terrible afterwards.😂
Wow respect to you world-traveller 🫡 you're not the first saying they wouldn't swap for a 1250! Thanks for writing this, great to hear from you ✌🏽
Ferdia really enjoyed this video. I know the ride was slow hot and exhausting. But the ending was so uplifting. The video was seamless its visuals message and music. Spot on editing. Your experience popped off the screen and was very relatable. The Ferdia Magic is back on this video. ❤
Thanks Joy 🥰 I'm so glad you enjoyed the ride! 😈
Superb! A test of spirit captured.....
I would not be able to do what you've been doing. My ancient bones would be staging a revolution after the second night of sleeping on the ground. When you were starting the video and unzipping your tent, I heard an owl. There are just two options for owls in Turkey. The Turkish fish owl. This owl lives in arid regions, nesting exclusively in the cliffs where they can find holes for nests. They are brown with their feathers getting lighter in color as they approach the head. The second, the fish owl, nests in trees near where it can find water with fish in it. They are dark brown and smaller than the Turkish fish owl. If you weren't anywhere near cliffs, and among trees with water not awfully far away, it would have been a fish owl. If it was a fish owl and not a Turkish fish owl, you gave us a rare treat as fish owls were once thought to be extinct and are rather rare. Thanks for this great video.
😮😮😮 it was in a forest near water!! Nicely researched, pity I never saw the fella 🥲
Wow again... huge respect Ferdia, you're extraordinary, my friend! I really enjoy following your journey ❤

Proud new custodian of a 2002 GS Adv, and stumbled in on your journey. You have allayed my fear of getting out there on my own, and I have a solo moto camping trip planned. You and your videos are truly brilliant. Keep making them! I believe many more people will find and appreciate them in time. Also, come ride and film in Northern California!! There’s at least one 2002 GS Adv you can borrow here!
Good luck with the trip, enjoy it! I'm delighted you're enjoying the vids. And thanks for the offer, I'll def take you up on it in the future ; p

Hi Ferdia, good to see you back. good vlog as always, looking forward to the next installment
Woot! Another great video! I'm not going to bed until I'm done watching this video and leave a brief comment! The Romans were good at stacking rocks in a way that was useful. I think that the police need to do both. Their primary desiere for becoming a law enforcement officer should be to serve the people. Some of the best cops that I've ever known joined for that reason. However, where people gather in societies, there are going to be bad apples that get into the mix. In this case, I would expect law enforcement officers to step up and protect the public safety. Yeah, your ticket was petty. Turkey should have posted signage at the borders infroming visitors of the rules. At the same time, once you were recorded on camera, a response from the officer was likely mandated. He may have even been reprimanded had he just sent you on your way. You've been riding your R 1150 GS long enough now that your feelings for how she's running have become intuitive. If you're feeling that she needs work, then, she probably does. I hope that once you get into that, you keep us informed about your progress. I wish you safe travels, Ferdia, along with good health in your journey! OMG! I could have said, "First" and left it at that. I'll say it anyway. FIRST! I'm such a child sometimes. Lol!
Very nice video!
This was very satisfying to watch after my trip to Andalusia. Thanks for your work.
Fantastic video . I've been looking at a Bonneville. Its nice to hear a review of someone who doesn't have basketball player genetics and are 6ft 5 😂 . I'm only 5ft 5 . So was concerned about the seat height. I think I'll take a closer look and get a pair of boots with lifts. Thanks Sir, be safe .
You'll have no problem with the Bonnie! Lovely low seat height. Us shorter riders are faster anyway 😜
@@unOrdinaryWorld Haha, true 👍

You made me interested in Sligo. Take care.
Hi Bill! Great to hear from you! Sligo awaits your coming 🙏🏽
Picked up 'From Tip to Top' on your recommendation. Great read. Love the included colour photographs as well (was surprised to see them as I'm sure that added to the production costs).

I recently sold my 1250 gs. Souless bike, fast, but souless. Much prefer my t100 and going back to that style of bike. Using my t100 was a joy, and was everything riding a bike should be, on the 1250, it was joyless. Sometimes, a bike can be too good in so many things, but not good at the thing that matters
Now that's interesting, glad to see someone thinks the same way! Amazing bikes the 1250's, but engineered beyond character indeed 🤭
One of the better reviews of this bike 😎👍
I am very close to getting my bike license and i bought a 1150GS. Can’t wait to ride my yellow legend!
Congratulations!! Many happy miles together on your yellow legend 😄✌🏽
Me mother was Irish from Donegal and me dad was English from Yorkshire. So i ride a Bonneville and feel emotional about it. I find the brakes fine, i just always use both back and front and am used to putting a bit more grip/weight into 'em. She stops just fine doing that.
That's true to be fair, when both brakes are on the go she does stop well enough. I've gotten into the habit of not using the rear much on her due to it having a tendency to stick. The underslung rear caliper gets full of salt meaning regular piston cleaning is in order, something I don't do now as I only ride the bike periodically when I'm home 😬 but good point, when correct braking practice is applied, she sheds speed decently. Thanks for pointing that out! 🙏🏽
Great video,everything you said about the 1150 is true,i own a 2004 1150 gsa,she's a keeper,the emotion you transmit,and convey in your video about your bike, is genuine,and contagious,every old bike has a story,yours has just begun...M.
@@touaregstar7135 thanks so much for these words, very gratefully received 🙏🏽☺️
Ferdia thank you for the update. Interesting months ahead for you. ❤ joy
I feel like I'm watching Jack Sparrow but if hes Irish and hes a biker, its absolutely great. Beautiful video thank you.
🤣🤣 thanks for that! Glad you enjoyed 😊
Nice Vid! ❤ As a fellow R1150GS Rider i have two tips for you. 1: The Oil consumption occures because the GS is been put on the sidestand, the oil in the left cylinder stands behind the piston rings, as the engine cools down gaps build because the metal "shrinks" as it cools off. Then the Oil runs between Piston rings and Cylinder wall into the combustion chamber. 2: Roll your Handlebars more up and adjust your levers so you have a more comfortable angle on your clutch and brakelever while standing. You should feel less fatigue in your hands/fingers/wrists. Ride safe and keep going ✌🏻😉
Good to know, thanks for this and the tip! Glad you enjoyed the vid 🫡🏍️💨
Brilliant video, there is something a bit special about having a bike passed down from your dad.
@@frazerbond3413 that there is, the bikes like part of the family, a lot of time has passed under these tires 😌
Keep doing it mate.
Nice work Ferdia, keep going, my 2002 GSA (Aussie registered) is in Normandie, France with friends, I go back every year since 2021 to ride all over the place. Keep your bike serviced and the oils changed every 5,000 kilometres and she will go forever. Yep, they are extremely heavy, there's no denying it but they soak up kilometres quite easily.
Good to see you back Ferdia, can I ask what mic you are using? Heading to Morocco and would like to vlog a bit.
@@flippylid771 funny you should mention... Just lost my Rhode shotgun mic on my last job 😑🤦🏽♀️ I also have a lapel mic to a designated audio recorder, that's what the sound in helmet is from. The book review section here is actually just audio off my OsmonAction. You'll have a blast in Morocco 😲😲
