When a secret is there from the very start
Sometimes little moments that contain significant depth go unnoticed. Not just normal foreshadowing, more subtle than that. This video explores multiple components of Frieren that make such a compelling story, things like symbolism, foreshadowing, and jewelry

The return of stylized anime

FINE I'LL WATCH IT AGAIN
well, i can only think of one explanation for the mess that we were inflicted after the master class that was season one: it was ON PURPOSE ! not like "this could have been decent with 2 more episodes and epic with 2 more seasons" or " after all, it's only about making more LOL skins, capitalism at its finest blah blah.. " but more like this is wat was intended ALL THE TIME and it 's glorious, nag nag let me develop on this devious plot: Like everyone, i was over duper hyped after the cliffanger of season one, and arc 1 was a little bit akward, for all the reasons you pointed. Then arc 2 came and i was like " is ARCANE a MCU spin off now?" all theses plots cannot be adressed in 3 episodes. and then , after EP. 7 , i understood: this is SO out of context ( fresh, sweet, tear inducing " what could have been" different series worthy but time consuming nonetheless) that it can't be accidental or rushed off: EP. 8 confirmed that, this mess of a multiversal WTF script is purposely messed up and full of plotholes the size of galaxies for 3 reasons: 1: nonsense characters developments and behaviours is explained by this clever explanation: S2 is the EXACT MIRROR of S1 VI is a clueless child, JINX is a one-girl army big sister that is forcing her way through the story with her fists( err, no guns and bombs), caytlyn is a one dimensional moron, Hemerdinger a comic relief plushie, embessa trades strategic awareness and inner badassness for amateurism and immediat profit shortcuts, jayce is a cynical shemer and viktor a (litteral) god that can't there fore be wrong and the rest of the universe may as well perish before he's proven so. only survivors are Ekko (GOAT before, after and forever) and Singer (all went according to the plan). 2: let's expand this to the general plot: S1 was about the small history within the big, namely two sisters struggling to make their way within a world progressively expanding into a a full course about inequalities, political and ethical mazes, systematic trials and errors that went wrong and lifelong grudges that hindered the game from the beginning. S2?: all this is too much, too big, let's just try to have a little scrap of hapiness while we can (even in a prison cell, wink wink) 3: ARCANE is about VI and JINX, why didnt they stick to that in season 2? why burden us with useless plots like the rose, noxus, the glorious evolution, i don't care, i'm not a LOL hardcore player and almost none of theses boring plots are even half- resolved at the end (let's not begin to think about the piltover-zaun magical newfound friendship or the "tell a god that it's not very cool to act like one and he'll stop") no, no and no! ARCANE S2 plot is MONEY, simple as that: we made you like Vi, Jinx Ekko, Mel and so on? well you know what to do to have your dopamine dose: buy figurines, t-shirts, posters, wait for the zillion future spin-off series with your fav characters and PLAY LOL ! we can deliver you visually stunning/LOTR plot/masterclass that trancend all that came before animation masterpieces, but it's only a mean, not an end: we're not ghibli, we're not Scorcese, we are a MMORPG game seller and we spend $250M to win much, much more( hey! weren't i saying in the exact contrary at the beginning, it seem so long ago...). and before you roast me for being the cynical one-sided communist ranting pathetic weeb that i am not (well, mostly not: after all, i'm a 53yo french heterosexual male, so... ) bear in mind that all the headeache-inducingly long diatribe you just read ( you're still here so you read it, i praise your mental fortitude) is just ONE opinion among a MULTITUDE, not holier than-thou universal truth oh, and side note: it's FORTICHE , RIOT, NETFLIX and other i don't know that made ARCANE exist and not me so, at the end of the day, who's the boss ? side note II, the return: VI IS wander's child, and Silko ALWAYS knews who they were so at the first two minutes of S1 EP1, we were already introduced with questions that would be answered in S1 EP3/4 AND S2 EP5/7 ( why are these two children in the middle of a nightmarish bloody riot? why isn't wander baffled by this fact but instead immediately know who they and their parents are? why is later ice-blooded crimelord Silko so forgiving with this annoying punching brat and this crybaby WMD?). Clever i must say
Never seen you or your vids before but I reckon I'll stick around; this video was great to watch and you've a really nice voice to listen to. I like that I can actually hear the emotion in your voice when you speak, even despite the fact I assume you're reading a pre-written script from how you mentioned multiple takes. A lot of people either sound like they're an entertainment show host saying their piece or just completely monotone while reading, but I didnt get that feeling from you at all. It was nice to watch and listen to. And of course I enjoyed the topic and your opinions as well, lol. As a writer, I appreciate you insinuating the flaws are more compelling than perfection. Whether it be a magical system or a character, it's a baseline truth I hadn't really considered too deeply before but one I believe will make my writing better from now on. So thank you 👍 I'll be checking out your other videos.
Bro you didnt explain nothing and butterflies symbolize how incredibly short life is...
In demon slayer there really isn’t a “magic system” It’s just sword play and breathing techniques to show off how different characters use there swords. Zenitsu is really the only one considering he was struck by lightning🤷
Could've been a 3 min vid. Too much yapping
Frieren suck and ot is frustrating as hell. There, i said it!
Even without the points you made, I don't care if it's "realistic", nobody would want someone scream at their face every minute. That gets grating after a while.
I don't like the quote from Gabe Newell because his line of thinking isn't wrong but the way he describes it lacks nuance. Fun is more important than realism however for many people they find immersion and escapism fun and to create immersion sometimes you need to create a certain level of realism. The key is to strike a balance between realism and fun. This means you need realism but not to such an extreme degree that it degrades the fun. You want to focus realism on aspects that elevate immersion and not to simply have it for the sake of having it.
While i love the plot, i can never get into modern anime anymore... because artists continue to drawn teenagers like adults, and write kids like teenagers. everything is so out-of-touch in the world of anime, i can never ground myself in it.
Title is shit. I like your vids but this is pretentious af: why the 7th? it's the start of the second arc or the point of plot unraveling; 12 episodes divided in two halves of six, the second set starts on the 7th. This isn't a new thing either, this has happened forever in anime. If the show has closer to 24 episodes, the midpoint start on the 13th. There, 12 minute vid abridged on 77 words.
I think there was once a wonderful, complete show. But then, production decisions and limitations reared its ugly head. In the end, however, I'm glad we got season 2. I may not be completely satisfied, but damn, I enjoyed this show.
Call of the night.

next video on look back please and thanks for this video
I had this thought while I was listening to your intro, on how great artists leave behind works that become "open to interpretation." How we immediately give them the benefit of the doubt that this tiny butterfly actually symbolizes something relevant. In fact, I do believe they do. Each and every single piece in an artist's work where he poured his entire being into is a reflection of his culminated knowledge and experience in his present life when said work was created. Why did he think to use butterflies? Because he probably read about it somewhere or someone taught him the information. When we as people who analyze their works notices this little detail and ask why it was there, we are actually looking into the very soul of the creator himself albeit without proper context. If you ask the creator himself, he probably hasn't quite pieced together everything so specifically as we interpret it as I've seen in many interviews, but rather it was placed there somewhat subconsciously due to a past the creator hadn't fully realized at the time. It's a rather humbling and lovely thought that we may not fully understand the intent of the artist behind a work, but it's also wonderful to be able to look into the life and soul of another person expressing themselves and their life up to that point in the best way they know how.
1:22 Please, someone tell me what anime this is.
id like to see you talk about cowboy bebop a timeless classic
I just skipped most scenes with zenitsu, he was just annoying for me
It was the same deal with the one scene in the jjk movie, you don't realize how much you aren't worried bout guns till someone actually dies from one in a show these days.
whats the media at 1:07? looks really cool
Bro you talk about her, like you fall in love with her 😂❤
i love how hard you ride this girl
Always love these videos. Ty
im so happy to find this, when i started watching frieren i was hoping people would be talking about it.
honestly one of my favorite channels to check out now, if you're not already sub'd you should be. thanks for the videos Pey!
I love frieren i recently completed the series and ive never felt more better for the most of the last few years. It is the most colourful experience ive had due to the factors of my life, I love the cenemategraphy and storytelling, I have an interest in deeper meanings and its one of the things i strive for in anything in real life or anime, so this is the perfect anime for me. Honestly Frieren is just a masterpiece that i cant wait more for
Well, the end of the season happened. I'm happy with the way Zenitsu's sudden change and how it was explained. The need for revenge can change a person instantly. Also, even before that, the reason Zenitsu didn't flee being a Demon Slayer had an easy answer. He was more afraid of disappointing his grandfather than dying. I was just as annoyed as everyone else with Zenitsu. But, I'm looking forward to see how his conscious self will perform in this next arc. He was locked in and ready to go and that gave me chills. Can't wait till the movies come out.
you considered that a secret?
Chainsaw Man is the best anime of the 21st century and those fu ck ing weebs and otakus didnt appreciate it
Funny that you say Fern's name is an expression of her connection to nature because her name isn't the English word for the plant, but the German word for "far" (as she tends to act distant and aloof, I suppose). I know that you know this because you mentioned it in a previous video. I'm still pointing it out because it circles right back to something you said in this video: finding meaning where no meaning was originally intended.
You should cover the manga It's incredible
Frieren is the best at foreshadowing. The layers upon layers of meaning.
Hey that smooth opening from the thumbnail to the beginning of the video was cool af!!! Please make that your thing!!!!
Himmel was not chosen to defeat the Demon Lord and save the world. Himmel was the hero who chose to save the world and defeat the Demon Lord. Serie had asked Frieren how she had managed to defeat the demon lord, because in her mind it was impossible. But Frieren was not alone. It doesn't always take a chosen one to save the world. Often it's enough if the right people decide to do it and just do it.
6:39 The animation of frieren is so clunky and cute
I remember watching Demon Slayer and thinking Zenitsu was funny, then gradually I just found him more and more annoying. I think I realized that he wasn't growing much as a character, and just being stale.
"Don't be sad, Frieren. Life feels longer once you start aging." Frieren, at its core, is ultimately about the most inevitable thing in the world: change-though here, it focuses more on losing loved ones. Alongside other matters, it touches on this theme so immaculately in every episode. Imagine being immortal. For thousands of years, lives beyond our comprehension-when viewed through our contemporary minds-have passed from this world, yet one of the few desires human beings have always had remains the same: immortality. But at what cost? Every time the show gives us another flashback with Frieren and her Hero party, this is the strongest feeling that I can't get out of my chest. This almost child-like, casual person-well, in this case, an elf-has something to teach us. Not always through her words, but most of the time simply by being her authentic self. Beneath that monstrous power lies her genuine and true approach to life, which serves as a lesson for everyone. Seeing her being silly, finding happiness in the smallest things, and being nurtured by her apprentice truly complements her character. Another theme I love that the show explores is the fears we carry. The best example of this, I think, is in the flashback scene where Stark's master has shaky hands. Frieren is surprised by Eisen's acceptance of fear. He says, "Being afraid isn't a bad thing. It's my fear that brought me this far." The more we escape from our fears, the worse they become, and the show bravely touches on this truth. The show must have the best magic system I've ever seen. It feels so real-so real that it makes me think, if magic were real, this is how it would work. Now, I feel like if I tried to describe it, it would just sound like any other magic system. But it truly feels unique. Even in the way people talk about magic in the show, you can sense it. Frieren is truly a heart warming and fulfilling masterpiece in my eyes and can't wait for the second season. A very well put video essay! Subbed and belled 😅
You would be eaten
8:32 as an anime-only, I really wouldn't phrase it as "can't" die. She _did_ not die. Makima said so herself "I was not shot". If she were, she could have died. But she was not.
One of my favorite cases of this is in the second Spiderverse film (Across the Spiderverse) where Hobbie is grabbing random items from Miguel's lab, or so we think, when we later get a cobbled together watch. HE EVEN SAYS DURING THE SCENE "Make your own watch." AS HE STEALS EVERYTHING TO MAKE ONE HIMSELF BECAUSE HE KNOWS WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN! The scene is incredible for the short time span of a film.
been on you since exploring frieren episode 1. proud of your growth man you’re doing good 👍
how many times have you rewatched frieren at this point.
