    Currently have 2 duvells. A custom and a BL6. Both don’t have neck dive. Both are more or less 7lbs. Just got lucky i guess. On the neck profile, i love it. Reminds me of a gibson 60’s slim taper neck with a suhr modern fretboard.

    I had a ml1 modern v2, to put things into perspective I'm 5"3 with extremely small hands and never found the neck to be thick at all wasn't an ibanez but extremely comfortable for me.

    Buying guitars online (never played and custom spec) feeds the resale market like nothing else. Too much money and too much choice leads to short-term decisions.

  • @nigelsmith721
    @nigelsmith721 3 дня назад

    Guitar buyers these days have either too much choice, too much money or both. A trend I've noticed over the past few years is that YT guitarists / reviewers are never in a purchase for the long haul. Every purchase is expected to be moved on in a month or two if not sooner. Plastic and hang-tags always in place so that it can go straight back. For better or worse, my guitars are in a "used" condition two months in and I'm fine with that. I've been a player / owner of guitars since the 80s and I have always bought from a store so I know what I'm getting and if I take it home I'm keeping it (or traded on one occasion when something on the bucket list became available). Literally none of the guitars I have were perfect off the hanger...Gibsons, Fenders, Charvel, whatever...they all needed an experienced guitar tech (someone with expensive tools) to bring them to their potential. But I knew what they could be and the shops I bought them from had them setup before I left the store. Another thing is the nitpicking over cosmetic manufacturing flaws. I little bit of finish bleed onto binding or a few tool marks on the board...really , who cares? If you're going to actually play the thing those will be invisible in a year or two (and forgotten about in a few days). A few comments have touched on depreciation...of a fucking guitar! Unless you're a vintage collector that needs to be so far down your list as to be irrelevant. The above is not a critique of this channel - this video is well put together and very watchable - but you bought four Chapman guitars and found fault with them all. Everything from too heavy to wrong neck profile to insufficient arm cutaway to "residue" and then a baritone (which seemed an odd choice when you said you were after a modern S-type guitar) which was neck-heavy (who knew?). All were sent back. Maybe buying from a store where you can try first might work better. This will all sound like boomer-complaining to all you new guys who invented guitar playing last year but it's just a point of view (without a dedicated YT channel to spread it).

      Nigel I appreciate your comments man. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your input. -Totally agree trying out guitars in a brick and mortar store is ideal when possible -Totally agree a professional setup is critical. Everything I own gets setup my by local luthier -Totally agree most people should get what they want in a guitar for practical purposes like sound and playability (yeah I'm not a vintage collector either lol) -I'm good with normal wear, scuffs, dings on used gear. Doesn't bother me at all. But when you buy new out of the box and there's QC issues like sloppy fretwork, etc. I don't think that's acceptable IMO -Yeah unfortunately all 4 Chapmans I mentioned didn't work for me but its not to say they aren't suitable for others. It's no secret they have had plenty of QC issues over the years. The standard series was the worst of the bunch but I saw Rob posted an update recently that series is no more. They're new lineup will be all Indian made so hopefully better than whatever Indonesian factory they were using. - All good on the Boomer complaining I am always open to counter points and reasonable discussions -Cheers

    I have that black Q model with slanted frets and paralel 19mm neck - it is very enjoyable and comfortable guitar. I like this neck concept. It is nice and a bit meaty at the nut while very fast and ergonomic to play solos. The nut is 42 mm which is unusual for Ibanez necks. Slanted frets: the look cool, they are comfy when played sitting in the classical position, which I do in my studio. As the matter of fact I have 2 custom Skervesen guitars with my custom neck shape: paralel thickness (quite flat) and axis/wolfgang neck profile (D on the bass side and C on the treble side). But to me - the best profile is their extreme Wizard, 43mm nut, 17 mm (1st fret) -19 mm (12th fret) thickness and flat D. To each their won, YMMV yada yada yada... Cheers

    I have owned 35 chapman guitars both pro and standard, models from 2012 to current. Only had minor issues with 3 of them. I like the specs in the main, the rolled finger boards and the overall fit and finish. There’s a fair choice of models with different feels, like all brands. But one try it and return it if you’re not keen. You’ll get back 40% on resale vs fender equivalent which is about 50-55%, Ibanez resale can be 40% too, epiphone around 50%. As for the whole ‘Rob Chapman thing’ that’s a boring irrelevant topic. I’ve said this so many times before. Do you know the MD of Gibson, Fender, Ibanez…??? No, tonight not. Do you know any high position staff at guitar companies or how they treat their staff etc?? No thought not. What about fender and Gibson both being fined for price fixing? What about Starbucks? Happy to buy a coffee aren’t you evening they pay no tax in the UK. What about ANY product you buy, if you knew half of what goes on in big companies it would make your toe nails curl but you still buy good in ignorant bliss. Point is, if you like the look of Chapman guitar then buy and try one. It’s nothing to do with Rob, it’s about a product that might suit you. They’re certainly better value than £700 from a pretty much bog standard I’ve fender Mexican

      Glad most all of them worked out well for you! that's really nice to hear. Yeah I really have zero issues with the guy. Always enjoyed his channel and his bands music. The old saying of "people buy from people" is true. I never wanted/needed a chapman guitar because of the price point, I have plenty of more high end guitars, for me it was more so because I enjoyed the Andertons videos etc and wanted to give them a try. I like that they were traditional but with some updates. I know I may be a little picky but if for some reason they did come out with something that aligned with my desired specs wihtout QC issues, I'd consider another try. cheers

    I would love to have a Kiesel bass built for me someday. If I saved up 2-3 grand and had one custom built, I wouldn’t dream of selling it unless I was desperate for the money. At the same time, I could also see myself saving some money and getting one used. There are plenty of them on Reverb for under $2000. I’d even settle for an older Carvin!

    You're a bit grumpy. This guitar has many advantages. It's used for sketching songs while sitting in front of a computer, because it's light, grippy, small, comfortable and cheap. I can't imagine composing music with a Gibson on my knee :) It has wonderful bridges with access to adjust the string action and intonation without removing the strings. And others don't have that, which drives me crazy. You can take it on a train, a small trunk, on a bike. Look at this guitar this way. And for a concert, take an Ibanez Premium and the problem is gone.

    • @TopShelfGear
      @TopShelfGear 16 дней назад

      yeah nah, not really grumpy just making some observations. I am pro headless guitar, been playing headless for years, own several. Totally agree perfect for playing at a desk recording etc. There are ways to make appealing body shapes with headless ergonomics. Really feel Ibanez could have done better here. As mentioned in the video, makes no sense to penalize the 6 string player with the chunkier neck profile. Would have just made more sense to have the 6 & 7 strings use the same neck shape. Lastly the fanned frets on a standard scale. Sure it may have some benefits to the right players, but why not just stack 2 benefits in one and just make it a multi scale? Cool guitars, not saying I hate them or anything just I feel there were quite a few design flaws and missed opportunities to reach more players. cheers

All of mine are fully bling'd out to my liking and are thus not very good resale items. Partly the other reason it is worth it to get the upgraded ziricote is choosing with or without sapwood. I also recommend "calling the guys" (Chris is my go-to rep) rather than ordering 100% online. As mentioned in the video, not only will they have access to off-menu options, they'll usually let you know if a particular combination won't necessarily work well, or make suggestions you may not have considered. I call Chris before I finalize any builds. Kiesel isn't for everyone, but I definitely like what I've gotten over the years

    your point about resale is basically true but it REALLY buries the lead of what kiesel's pretty amazing value proposition actually is and also WHY they resale like that: You are correct in that someone's special build is just whatever to anyone else who sees it and if you spend 1k additional cost on your kiesel (e.g. flame maple color treated fretboard, flame maple back of the neck, chambered with AAA+ burl top with an extra custom dragonburst) you are not going to be able to sell that for what you paid for it. Let me 1st mention you could not have any of that done as cheaply as kiesel will do it basically anywhere else. you'd be paying 4x as much from any other brand IF they will even do it for you. so if all the aesthetics are waste of money from any custom shop you are still wasting FAR LESS then you would be anywhere else. A basic kiesel is a USA made instrument made new and for you for a price you basically cannot beat for a new USA or even MIJ instrument from any other manufacturer. Hell some brands are charging as much for Indonesian import stuff nowadays (not that all imports are bad by any means but wasn't the point of them to be cheaper?). Many very significant selectable kiesel options like neck radius, wood choice on neck (including all wood types of a 5 piece neck even), fingerboard wood, inlays, paint color etc are also either very cheap to swap out or don't even cost anything more to change. the biggest reason people don't want to pay top dollar for a used kiesel is that you could just order one for yourself with EXACTLY what you want for that much money and maybe drop an option or two you don't care about and have it end up actually cheaper. Also they aren't THAT cheap used they are only cheap used compared to ppl who got 2k worth of aesthetic or other custom upgrades. so just order a new one just for you - just do research before you finally pull the trigger. i LOVE mine personally. anyway LONG RANT over :)

I tried multiscales instores and liked them but using one all the time i could just never get used to. and my muscle memory never caught up and everything was just off. 2nd mistake was going with the lightspeed body shape, the neck was maple and still had insane neck dive and because of the body shape even in classical it wouldnt sit right on my knee. After i went went a aries with 27" like im used to and it has been my #1 guitar since and the lightspeed hasnt seen the light of day

  • @Prometheus4096

    A cheap plain built Aries is going to resale decently. But a highly priced exotic body with very particular eye candy choices. Why buy a second hand 4k guitar when you could just as easily order your own, custom made to demand? Another reason for the resale value issue is that a lot of Kiesel customers spec out their guitars in quite a tasteless way. I don't really get those people that keep buying guitars and also keep selling them. Are you a musician, a collector, or a speculator? A guitar is a tool to make music. If you are a pro, you may need more than one. But most people don't need more than 3, for sure. If you just want to buy new guitars all the time for some endorphin hit, because you are addicted. Then you need to sell your old ones. And a Kiesel one likely won't sell very well.

In certain cases, they reset the price higher on the "In Stock" sale if I bought them on a holiday promotion. Kiesel enjoys the upside of having the return policy so they can direct more business to themselves as opposed to other SEMI-custom guitar companies but they don't want to deal with the downside of Buy To Try. Andy James alluded to this factor of the Kiesel business model being a part of his decision to not renew his endorsement contract. You skipped over the hypocrisy of the JK sales pitch mantra as it didn't fit with your adoration of a business that you're unwittingly working for. (Or ARE YOU a paid agent?) If that is their outlook, then it should be posted on their website, but that will NEVER happen because it would scare away business. The internet is littered with Kiesel horror stories for a reason. Nope, I didn't want to hear it either at the time. If stupid shit from their end didn't happen to u, consider yourself lucky.

      -It was clearly stated in the beginning of the video that "I am in no way affiliated with Kiesel Guitars" This is a factual statement regardless of whatever false accusations you choose to make -See details on kiesel website about return policy. They clearly state you are responsible for shipping "If you're not satisfied for any reason, send it back for a prompt refund or exchange - you would only be responsible for the shipping." -When placing orders it will be noted during online order checkout & invoice if customer specified options are ineligible for return -It is the customers responsibility to carefully review these terms before placing orders -All guitar companies are in business to sell products for a profit -Continuing to make accommodations for customers returning excessive amounts of custom guitars is not productive -If and when JK mentions trial periods for eligible orders, that does not necessarily imply a person has the freedom to return and infinite quantity of custom ordered guitars -I would support the decision to make it clear to customers that at X amount of trial period returns that they will no longer continue to sell that individual as this is standard practice for most large retailers -I cannot speak to any artist relations topics but they have the free will to change brands if they do not wish to renew contracts etc. -If you strongly dislike a brand so much that you feel the right to return 4+ custom guitars in a year, perhaps you should consider another guitar builder and stop coming in here trying to shoot down guitars other people enjoy

    I have a Squer Active Deluxe four string bass. It has an ebonol fretboard and looks identical to richlite. Are they they the same but called differnt names by different companies?

    What I don't understand is why Guitar Center thinks they are going to get close to new retail prices for their Used/Pre-Owned Kiesels. I have seen this over and over again. It takes an eternity for GC to realize that people can actually access the interent to find other Kiesels for way cheaper because Kiesels don't hold their resale value in the first place OR people can just order directly from Kiesel NEW and to your specs. Sam Ash was so much worse and with ALL Used/Pre-Owned guitars not just Kiesels. Sam Ash absolutely 💯 would NOT budge on any of their Used prices regardless of make or model. I'm not trying to be mean either. In fact, several of my comments about Sam Ash''s Used/Pre-Owned policy on other videos about the Sam Ash closing thing were deleted, so I don't know why the whole Used guitar topic and especially my decades long observations of Sam Ash triggered people to delete my comments.

    I have two Ormsbys one 8 String Dragon Burst run 5 (2018) or basically similar like you have described in the video. And the second one Hype GTR Shark (2023/2024). Besides that I actually love the older version, the company have changed few things over the years. The neck is thinner, with improved access. The body is slightly lighter (semi hollow) and the input jack is recessed in the body. I think the pickups are totally fine as well, but I have built in Bare Knuckle Painkiller into the older one. The pickup did not change much and I think strings thickness and brand will have bigger impact. By the way I have small hands for a guy and short fingers (but i dont mind the scale length at all.)

    I wish he wouldn't sign the guitars - it spoils the aesthetic. I would sand that off. Beautiful guitar.

    Yes, if you bling out a Kiesel to your specs you can have a tough time finding someone else who wants to buy it. That cuts both ways though. I have a few Kiesel in-stocks that went for stupendously low. A DC that would cost you 4100 that sold for 2600 as an in-stock. I have a couple from the used market, and two that were custom made. The custom guitars (SH550s) went on black friday sales for a good discount, and if you compare them to their competitors (Sadowsky or Benedetto) the value is really good for what you get. If you are paying full price, make sure you are reconciled to a potential drop in resale. If you are buying in-stock at a discount or used, you won't do too badly.

    I believe this is not built for an rg player or a strandberg player its made for people playing ibanez az's suhr's and similar stuff cause all the headless models are aiming for the metal/shred guys but specs never fits for a modern Strat guy or anyone plays stuff like that so I guess instead of racing with other brands that do headless guitars Ibanez aims for a different customer type

    what do you think about no paint raw tone 3 piece swamp ash? this has always been my wishlist build. budget obviously, i just dont care for colorful paints or black/white. I think a wood tone guitar would just be so great. but unless you pay extra for a solid piece ash, they give you a 3 piece which will show the small lines where they are glued togther. I wonder how bad that would be.

      Raw tone finished Swamp ash I would always go 1 piece body. If going with gloss, upgraded top wood, colorful finish perhaps not as much if a concern with multi piece on the back of the body
