We plan to sail off one day when we are ready to go and travel the UK and then the world... All in good time!
We thought we would start our boat life video diary to keep our memories along the way showing the ups and downs and our learning curve.
We only started sailing a year ago and have a lot to learn!
We hope you enjoy it.

THE BEST WAY TO START THE DAY!? Sail from The River Crouch - The River Orwell (EP.27)
So in this one we head Back from the River Crouch to the home birth in the River Orwell. It was an early start again to catch the tides and a motor for 2/3s of the trip.
The sunrise was amazing and always makes the early starts a great thing! I think I prefer a sunrise to a sun set!?
Finally the wind filled in and we had 14kts to enjoy the rest of the sail home.
There was a virtually non existent swell but was very short and only 1-2 ft but was beam on and kept rocking us all day which made for a rolly time down below.
On the way back we saw this unusual rig which I have never seen before. It consisted of a mast at the bow with no stays and a giant sail. It was making good way both up and ...

MAN OVERBOARD... and FAILS to clean his prop!!!! (Ep.26 Sailing in the River Crouch)

Thats right... I go over the side into the murky river Crouch in an attempt to clean the hull and prop!! I fail miserably due to the temperature... and currents... oh and the fact I couldn't hold my breath for longer than 30 seconds! We continue our journey up and down the river Crouch, ground from Burnham Marina to Fambridge Moorings and then back again ready for our departure. We take a very ...

Soooo... this time we go on a trip to the River Crouch and visit Burnham Marina, Fambridge Marina, and do A LOT of motoring.. We will take it as this is our first long trip with the little one and at 8 months we would like to make it as smooth as possible. Its a lot to learn and get used to as I am now single handing the boat and dealing with virtually all of the sailing, mooring etc (Charlie d...

A junk rig ,,, the great sailor Rodger Taylor it’s his preferred rig for ocean sailing no stress on the mast at all 👍 he sailed for thousands of miles on his engine less yacht called ming ming check him out you will be Impressed
@@jasoncarbis7751 thank you Jason! I will definitely look that up. It certainly was going well! A lot better than us with a dirty hull and novice skipper 🤣 👍
I love your cockpit enclosure set up. We’re trying to figure out what design to use and your design looks perfect. Have to show my husband ( another view for the channel tonight 😁) Love the twist on the normal coffee shot😂 baby bottle too❤
@@WavedancerWesterlyfulmar 🤣 absolutely the bottle is the most important ☝️🙈 Yes it’s a simple set up but works very well. We were advised to have another bar in the middle ‘to stop sagging’ but it seems to be fine for us and this cover is around 10 years old. We have just had a refurb and can now see out of the windows 🤣🤩
Favourite video yet!!💗 Love seeing your adventures! xxx
@@AJS87 thank you my dear! Xxx
Love that Carl - very peaceful to watch, looked like a perfect trip
@@sailingbluedawn thank you, that’s lovely to hear! It was a great trip. I love those early starts 🙏👍
Fantastic video. Best wishes to you all. 👍🏻⛵
@@SCCFORUM thank you so much for watching and your kind comment! And to you and yours! 👍
It's a Junk rig. Based on a Chinese junk bot I believe. There's a couple channels I watch where guys have built their own boats with Junk rigs. S V Tapatya and Wave Rover. Wave rover is only 34 feet I think, and he's going to sail the Atlantic to Europe and back again!
@@paddyfore thank you mate. I thought it had an eastern feeling, I’ve seen a similar sail before but never what looked like a modern yacht with a mast at the bow! It went well 👍
@@Thesailing_chef supposed to be great sailing with a Junk. No stays on the mast. On a beat they're not great.
@@paddyfore it looked like they were having fun for sure 👍
Hi Guys, I’ve watched the first few films and your telling a lovely story. I have changed from travelling on my motorcycle to or back too sailing. Having cleaned up my Hunter 23. Food, boats, learning every day experience and family adventures. Seems perfect, plus Yoga and Well being, cancel the David Loyd membership 😎
@@daviddiluvicusor thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment David! The hunter sounds great! We are still trying to figure out where to direct the channel but have found documenting our journey fun to do and look back on! Absolutely.. after the last few weeks of sanding, anti foul and polishing the hull there’s no gym needed 🤣🙏
Were those moorings in the Roach
@@paddyfore No mate they were a little bit further up on the crouch about 0.4m up from Burnham 👍 (the evening mooring) and the day time were just outside the entrance to Fambridge Marina.
Ah love watching your sailing outings what a lovely way of life... The best sunsets always! Lillia getting more and more comfortable on her boat every time!! Lots of love to you all xxx
@@AJS87 thank you my dear! It has its challenges for sure but the rewards are superb! Hope you, Nic and the little man are all well xxxxx
Great to see you out as a crew of three. I’m sure I recognised the boat you moored next to in Fambridge 🤔😃 All the best to you all 😊

Thank you for watching and your kind comment 👍
She's gorgeous guys, and she's loving it aboard! ❤
You are right on both counts 😃🙏 she loved being out there.. just need to keep an eye on her as she’s keen on eating the jib sheets.. 🙈

Great weekend to be away, we escaped to Keyhaven too. Lillia growing quickly 😀
Excellent 👌 it certainly was, we said the same.. picked the best weekend of the year so far! Indeed she is, it’s crazy how fast the first year she’s going! Got to get her hauled out soon and get that bottom cleaned!!
Do you know what has happened to SV Sleepy Shores? Nothing on AIS for over 18 months
Yes, they are in Portland Marina still living on Sleepy Shores. Both doing great and have a bulldog now called Popeye! Kaz and Nev are both on Facebook with updates regularly 👍
Hi Sailing Chef and family, just discovered your channel by chance, Always loved Moody's, i grew up on Westerly's, loved the boat tour vid you done, Crazy diamond lookin fantastic condition, just going thru your other vids now, really good too see a good honest down to earth channel,, all the best mate and look forward to the next vids..
Thank you Mike! What a lovely comment and thank you for taking the time to write and watch. She is a great boat (as are the Westerly’s, similar ethos and era!) Need to give her some tlc soon and also hoping to do a few trips if the weather sorts its game out soon! I feel it’s coming though. Thanks and again and keep in touch 👍🙏
@Thesailing_chef Thanks for the reply mate, Great to see your daughter getting involved too bless her, it's fantastic growing up on the water as a kid, gives you a real sense of freedom and midset to explore life...take care all of you and happy sailing..
@@Mikeford-iu7xi Absolutely mate. Got to show her the joys of the world and life’s always better on the water 👌 well unless we’re smashing some short chop on the east coast of England.. 😬🤣 Take care 👍
⛵️⚓️🚀
Love it 🥰
Nice boat. What’s the top speed under motor for this?
Hi there, thank you! good question, with a clean hull she will do around 5-6kts at about 2500 rpm. We’ve got a 2 blade fixed prop so probably not the most economical but is plenty for the boat. She’s comfortable around 2400-2700 rpm. 👍 Currently she needs a clean so is doing around 4kts flat out at 3000 🤣
i dont know what it is but i cant stand food thats been in cling film for extended periods of time. it taints it and ruins it for me. great video tho.
Fair enough, it can be substituted with baking paper or just straight in a tin, it just makes the handling easier 👍
This will take you back! Dangerously GOOD… 3oz Cocoa powder 9oz Butter 9oz Golden Syrup 9oz Sugar 12oz Cornflakes 1. Crush cornflakes 2. Melt the cocoa, butter, sugar and golden syrup together in a pan - doesn't need to be hot just all melted together. 3. Mix cornflakes and melted mix all together in a big bowl - crunching as you go 4. Line a flat tray or shaped tin with cling film 5. Put mix in tray and squish down as hard as you can 6. Leave to cool 7. Put in fridge for a couple of hours (or as long as you can wait) 8. Tip onto cutting surface and chop into pieces - no rules on size here 9. Eat and remember what heaven tastes like (!)
Great seeing the new crew is settled in well. Our youngest was 14 months old when he first started sailing
She’s definitely getting there, we will get her on fender duty soon enough 😉😂, that’s great it’s definitely a new challenge to contend with but taking baby steps with her aboard. (No pun intended) I hope you are well!
Someone is growing up fast 🙂 Great day out and summer just around the corner. Looking forward to getting out too.
Indeed she is Pete! Quite scary how quick the time goes! Can’t wait to get her on the winches 🤣👍🙏
Excellent mediocre episode! ;) I do enjoy those small adventures and looks like an enjoyable day out. Take care!
Thank you I appreciate that🙏 it was a great day out. Always nice to be out on the water! Thank you for watching and commenting 😃
Love the videos - such a great realistic representation of sailing on the east coast. My partner and I are looking at getting a boat near to your marina, but this is about 1hr 15 from our home and we both work full time too. Do you live close, and if not is this a challenge at all? I.e. Checking on your morning lines midweek or doing odd s mall jobs on the boat? This is probably the last concern I have before we commit. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Hi Jamie, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. We live an hour away (50mins - 1hr depending on traffic) and find it fine. Its not to much out the way to go for a day sail or to ‘pop to the boat’. With regards to checking on the lines etc I do always pop over every week or 2 if we haven’t been out but to be honest the marina staff are fantastic and do daily checks on all boats, even more so if the weather is bad or forecast bad. It’s honestly the best thing we’ve done. So nice to be on the water and have a ‘home from home’. Any questions just ask 👍 Ps as you may have seen we were in Ipswich haven marina before and the lock was a drag for the day sails, that would sometimes take longer in and out than driving to the boat! Where are you thinking of going?
Oh wow, that's very reassuring to hear! It was nice to see that the marina staff added a fender during the storms - not something that I was aware of. Looking at getting on the waiting list at pin mill or suffolk yacht harbour. Very good point re. the locks - I like shotley's location, but the lock is an additional challenge and time drain. Really appreciate your quick response - found your 1 year of boat ownership video incredibly useful, down to earth and again reassuring. Just need to commit now 😁
@@44Jamie91 go get it mate! Yes pin mill you’ll have the tidal restrictions (I am sure you’re aware) Suffolks nice, just the wrong side of the river for us as it adds the travel time. Let us know when your about and I am sure we will catch up on the water 👍 Very good to hear it was of use!
loved watchin this! love the new crew member! very cute indeed!
Thank you, I know we maybe biased but she is a little beauty! Can’t wait to get her on the helm 👌👍❤️
very fast knifework!

I've recently found your channel and have enjoyed about 4 or 5 episodes and suddenly you've acquired new crew - what an absolutely gorgeous baby!!!! What a beauty
Thank you 🙏 🤣 yes we’ve worked fast there! She certainly is and for daddy another mouth to feed! 🙄🤣 Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Ok ..where to start , great balance of the different elements, really like the foodie bit ( must try that soon ) . The sailing shots were very good, nice camera work and of course your cute new crew stole the show. But you did, in my opinion over do the music. Having been boating most of my life I actually prefer the sounds of the water and the birds etc. Anyway great vid….. just keep them coming.
Excellent feedback Rob thank you and noted! I did think that was the case! Will try and balance this out going forward. Thank you for watching as always and for taking the time to comment. 👍🙏
I agree. That’s the greatest thing in life . I mean sailing and also the baby. Congratulations and enjoy both.
Thank you 🙏 absolutely! I’m a lucky man indeed! 👍
I did the same with exactly the same mooring line. Must be that you do prep on the pontoon side but not really anything the other side. Haven't done it since.
Absolutely, it’s a lesson learnt for sure. It’s always the first one I take off now 🤣👍
I have a boat just down the river from you at SuffolkYacht Harbour. It's a Trapper 500 (Tosca 3) that I bought October 2022. I hadn't sailed before buying it so had an instructor onboard for a days lesson. Spent the first year learning to sail mostly single handed. Passed my day skipper theory and practical last November and still loving being out on the boat. Nice to see some videos from my neck of the woods. Hopefully see you out on the Orwell sometime.
Excellent! I’ll keep an eye out! That’s great work. The experience is everything and still learning every time! 👍
That was my sort of video, sailing sailing and more sailing. But you now have a new priority congratulations.
Thank you for watching! Yes I love watching this sort myself!! Raw and real! Indeed we do and she’s keeping us very busy indeed 🤣. Can’t wait to get back out there!
Do what feels safe always. It's not worth the risk.
I concur Bob. It’s one thing being alone but I will never risk my families safety. 👍
Just found your Channel and will follow along and see what you get up to. Given you are newbies to the whole thing this could be a lovely long story of adventure. Living on the east coast, close to Southwold/Lowestoft heightens my interest as you are sailing locally, at least for the time being.
Thank you so much for watching. Yes always fun to see the local areas I find also. Hoping to get out and about and filming again very soon to get some more videos about! 👍
Excellent video. I have a moody 30. Great boat. Can i ask where did you get the full cockpit cover? Or do you know the make? Thanks
Thank you. 🙏 I am not to sure as it came with the boat. I think it was done by dolphin sails as that’s the name on the spray hood but may have been someone else. We need to replace it as it’s seen better days but will use for a template for a new one. It’s all held by one arch bar which is simple and zips to the spray hood. Let me know if there’s anything else you need to know 👍
I made this a few weeks ago and that's what's on the menu tonight. I quickly realized it's sort of a take on a Spanish Tortilla - but much better. This was really good.
Hi David! Yes it’s quite similar just less on the eggs with the potatoes 👍 Really pleased you enjoyed it, it’s a great little recipe and you can mix it up with other additions. Spices, chilli’s, bacon etc 👍
Taxi, East Coast boatyard please and don't spare the horses, dinner is ready :-)

Hopefully your little one is safely home now so bump sailing no longer a concern. We're about 8 months ahead of you on that particular journey so fully appreciate your concerns. Ultimately if either of you aren't comfortable with the potential situation don't go. We've found sailing with our baby is hard but doable, plan short passages to start with and have plenty of storm ports planned (they can be used for any situation that develops). In terms of safety we wear our little one on a baby bjorn carrier and whoever wears her uses a Spinlock Alto belt life preserver, we find this more practicle than baby life jackets etc. For naps we have the pram wedged between our companion way steps, chart table, galley and saloon table. but find what works for you. Baby never leaves cockpit and if we are at all concerned about the sea state whoever is wearing her clips on into the cockpit using a short fixed lifeline ie no possibility of going overboard. Be preppared to put baby down so you can both deal with a situation, even if this means leaving them upset, crying etc. for a period. Safety of the vessel is critical. You cant plan out every eventuality, but prepare sensibly and the nerves quickly subside, and you'll have a great time as a 3. If you want an idea check out instagram.com/sailingwithdarcy?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA== on Instagram, we have started sharing our experiences.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write. All fantastic advice and will certainly take on board.(quite literally) She is here safe and well and arrived two weeks ago. We popped out for a short day sail last week which went well and I think I feel much better now she’s here. We have got a carrier and thought that maybe the best option also 👍. Very much looking forward to a longer trip but need to catch up on some sleep first 🤣🤦♂️ I will certainly check out your page 👍
Nice work, congrats
Thank you sir 🙏
Good call, we have turned around a few times and never regretted the decision later. Just a thought, that wheel pilot was working quite hard. Do you have the rudder reference unit? it really made a difference after we fitted it. Keep an eye out for a second hand one over the winter, because there isn't much to go wrong inside.
Thank you Pete! Yes was the right thing to do on the day and with the crew for sure. I’ll have a look at that! I am not sure. I may have the sensitivity turned up to much as I know you can control that. It was also a lot more rolly than the camera gave credit for as always but worth looking into for sure 👌 👍
Your new GoPro camera footage looks amazing, is that 1080 or 4K? Even more impressive, flip flops all the way to Pin Mill and back. Cheers, Rob
😂 absolutely Rob! Got to get used to them for the hot climates 👍 It’s 4K / and can do 5k as a camera but unfortunately to get over buying a new computer I have had to downgrade the footage to 1080 to edit it together. It’s quite the process rendering every video before editing 🤦♂️ got there in the end though. 👍 it’s a great piece of kit. Most impressed with the mic attachment. I was out in 15/20kts at the weekend and just filming another ‘raw sail video’ and virtually no wind noice at all in full brunt of the elements 👍
Congratulations on the pregnancy. Wishing you a safe, healthy pregnancy and delivery when your time comes 🎉 best wishes from Yvonne and John aka the crew of Wavedancer
