Gold Bodied Willie Gunn Wet
Tying up some gold-bodied Willie Guns for a day of Salmon fishing earlier this week got me thinking of possible loch fly variations using the same or similar materials. This is the first combination I have tied up, very much an attractor pattern but that was almost a given. I suspect this will work as well for Trout or Salmon in lochs.

Holy Grail

The Holy Grail a Caddis emerger pattern that was suggested/recommended to me. As I understand it, this is more of a series of flies than a single pattern. It's a reasonably simple tying, but you do need to be careful about positioning the bead and making sure you leave enough room to tie off the thorax cover and position the hackle. Pattern: Hook: Fulling Mill FM5060 Czech Nymph Size 14 Bead: G...
Mallard and Claret

Revisiting an old favourite, the Mallard and Claret was one of my go-to flies when I first started to fish hill lochs. A classic, reliable fishtaker, there is no good reason for it to fall out of favour. Pattern: Hook: Fulling Mill FM5090 Comp Heavyweight Size 12 Thread: Semperfli Classic Waxed Black 12/0 Tail: Golden Pheasant Tippet Rib: Lagartun Oval French Tinsel X-Strong Fine Gold Body: Ful...
Leggy Pulling Muddled Daddy
Просмотров 48321 день назад
Leggy Pulling Muddled Daddy, unfortunately, I left my first tying of this pattern in a tree recently, but only after catching a nice fish on it. It was too high to be recovered, so I needed to tie up a couple of replacements and took the opportunity to make a video of the tying to share. Following some feedback, I decided to try this video without any music. Is this an improvement or not? Patte...
Heather Fly Half Hog Hopper
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.21 день назад
On a recent fishing trip in the North of Scotland, I saw some Heather Fly (Bibio pomonae) on the wing. This inspired me to tie up a few Half Hog Hoppers to represent this fly. The Half Hog Hopper style is very effective and can be tied in various colours to match multiple insects. They present a vulnerable prey image to the fish and are often very effective. So having a few in your fly box(es) ...

Experimenting with some of the excellent new Flex-Floss from Fulling Mill, and using a holographic tinsel underbody to give this fly an inner glow and really nice body colour. Fulling Mill's Flex-Floss comes in a wide range of colours and a coupl eof sizes. The generous pack means that there will be plently opportunity to experiment with lots of colour combinations. This is a simple pattern tha...
Olive CDC Cruncher

A Olice CDC Cruncher, a slightly more complicated varient of this excellent pattern. The additional sparse CDC collar provides additional fish attracting movement to the fly. Useful looking variant beautifully tied.
Thank you! Cheers!
It’s just a hasbit I’ve got into . Gives me that wee bit of extra security !!
A bit of extra security is rarely a bad thing. 👍
Will shine on the Scottish hill lochs I visit . I put a drop of Varnish on my thread before Tying in my rear air . A strong reliable fix 👍
Thanks
Meant to say Deer Hair instead of rear air . Oops
@deanmonaghan5835 ah got you. I tie most of my deer hair wings as I have for this fliy, never had an issue with the robustness of the flies. Someone recently told me they had caught 40 fish on one of my Sedgehog Daddies and the dressing held together fine.
very nice video
Thanks, great to hear that you like it.
Had me dancing round the kitchen watching
Love that!

@@Robbiemdl I certainly did, looks a very useful pattern for here in Assynt
Nice! Here’s hoping your channel does well.
Thanks. I hope so too, but if someone enjoys the videos or is inspired to tie a fly that is a win in my book.
@@Robbiemdl Yup! 🙂
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
That’s a great looking muddler 👍
Thanks for the kind comment.
Nice tying Robbie Mac' , but I do HATE background music on things
Thanks for the kind comment and feedback. Would you prefer no music? My concern with that is there could be some long silent sections.
Lovely tying Robbie and very good instruction too! 👍
Thanks Allan 👍
Nice fly👍🏻
Thank you!
Thanks. Simple, not too long and instructive. Had to mute the music though 🙂
Thanks! Once you get the hang of it the DHE can be a quick and easy tie. Yeah the music on that one is not to everyone’s taste, not that keen on it myself but at the time I was struggling to find copyright free music to use that worked better. Hopefully the music on my more recent stuff is more tolerable 😂
Never seen you before. And that’s a lovely looking fly. New subscriber 👍👍👍
Great that you found me, welcome aboard! Really pleased you like the fly.
The style of presentation is great as well@@Robbiemdl
Great muddler pattern 👍
Thanks 👍
Enjoyed the video lesson
That is great, makes my day.
Nice fly Robert but why bother with the cul de canard?
Thanks Tom, glad you like the fly. The CDC is primarily there to add extra movement, especially when fishing the fly really slowly. It may also trap an air bubbles or two which can attract fish.
Prefer it with CDC wing anyday
CDC wings absolutely have their place, especially in slower and smooter water, or when the fish are being particularly difficult. However, I find that CDC flies can be high-maintenance especially after catching a fish. In faster water and when the fish are willing to accept it I prefer a deer hair wing for easy of use, maintenance and robustness.
Very nice. French Partridge would be ideal for the hackle too.
Cheers, French Partridge are lovely feathers.
That’s a cracking looking variant 👍
Thanks 👍
Nice one Robbie!
Cheers Allan!
Love your content, will give this one a go.
Thank you! It’s a great fly you won’t be disappointed 👍
