What Ecodiesel engine failure sounds like? | Eco diesel Knocking | Main Bearing Failure
This is to document my experience. Our Eco-diesel had engine failure (main bearing failure) after 59,000 miles of trouble free, well maintained miles. I tow a trailer from time to time (about 4500 Lbs.) All maintenance done on time or early. Always used factory filters and 5w-40 Rotella as recommended in the owners manual. Never driven hard, never any major problems until the engine very randomly died after a routine highway trip. Once at the dealer, they pulled the oil pan to find bearing material everywhere, which started the warranty process for replacement.

Great video! Assuming this would apply to newer Subarus as well?
Just to clarify what I saw: you technically overfilled the cvt while it was cold. Warmed it up to 72 f and let the excess drain while hot. Once warm and with proper volume of fluid, there should not be any fluid coming out of the fill plug. or did I misunderstood?
Great video, thanks! How long did the whole process take you by the way?
Great video. But I have a question, why not put the black hose that you removed and put in a container of fresh CVT fluid, instead of manually filling the CVT. That way, the black hose will suck the same amount of fresh fluid that clear tube is squirting out. Wouldn't that be an easier approach. Or am I missing something?
Good question. It's because that line does not "suck" at all. It only gets fluid pushed through it. Hope that helps
@@MTsubfly ahh, makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
I try going there today but was blocked off by a gate that said unauthorized vehicles not allowed and another sign that said canyon hours 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, my question is did you have to get a permit to go down there and did you fish upstream or downstream? Thank you, super good video!
@luiscolon4841 Just have to walk in during those hours. I rode my bike down carefully and hiked out. There is a sign in sheet at the bottom of the hike in. I think you can fish up and down stream, just not next to the powerhouse. Definitely cool place, I need to go back. Thank you!
My Friend according to TSB-02-189-22 date 01/04/22, the new gasket is 803916010 and new drain plug is 32195AA021. good video.
Doesn’t the opposite side of the tire have black lettering? So whoever is mounting the tires to the wheel can choose whether the white letters are facing out or in.
You make it look so easy
@MYsubfly Mark, I was browsing RUclips and watching CVT videos and stumbled across your video. I thought- man that looks just like a guy I grew up with. Small world. Great videos man!
@LabelRider_113 Dude, we go way back, subys are solid machines! Funny how small a world it is, miss you man! Just thought about you today and that trip we did to eastern Oregon with your dad. Ride on!...
buddy, will appreciate the drain plug gasket/whasher OEM # as well fill plug gasket/washer OEM # please.
What brand is your trailer?
I think I blew it when I installed a new air filter. I have a 1997 Subaru legacy. I swear it started acting up after I changed out the filter. I had a really hard time removing the top to replace it. I don’t think I had it sitting properly. Not right away but I would be driving and especially on the freeway and when I exited and came to a light the car would die. It happened a few more times. Sometimes the check engine light would go on. I would go to O’Rileys to check the code but then it would turn off. Then it happened. It stalled after leaving the freeway. I begged for my car to make it home. It would only go about 5 -10 mph. I made it home. While I was looking at my air filter I also cleaned my mass air sensor. I am having a heck of a time connecting everything again but I also wanted to clean the throttle. I got the cleaner. I’m having a hard time figuring out where it is. Your video I believe helped. The mass air sensor has a gasket in it. When I took it off the air filter housing it fell to the ground. It was broken and missing about 1/4 of it. Trying to replace just the gasket. I was watching and reviewing others about the throttle. So said not to mess with it because it can through the timing off or something like that. Is that true or something to worry about? Someday I need to buy a new car. Just trying to stay away from putting a lot into my poor ski mobile. Any comment is greatly appreciated.❤
Thank you for the instructional video champ! I followed this for a 2016 Forester 2.0L with 82K and decided to replace the whole fuel pump assembly and filter. After removing the pump fuse and running the car for a few minutes, my fuel line did a similar release when I removed it from the pump, so make sure you have a small container and rag to catch it. My Subie is back with smooth power again :-)
Very good Son!
Son...Holy crap...lol
Have they updated the website where you got them? They weren’t on sale either
Amigo, muchas gracias por tu video y lo detallado que es. Ayer me anime a cambiar el aceite de mi cvt forester 2019 y fue todo un exito. Resolvi un molesto ruido al acelerar brusco a los 30kmh (19mph) saludos.
Very Detailed Video! Thank You! 👍
Can you explain the three wires on the right side of the disconnect switch and the one wire on the other side. I understand the positive terminal from your battery goes to the red F1 on the 12v block, but I’m confused to what’s coming into the disconnect
Well done 😊
Thanks for the video bro. Love your work.
Hey @MT, I almost pumped 2 quarts in but still nothing comes out. Do you have an idea? Thanks.
are you sure you are using the "right" fill plug? I have been filling via the overflow for years so I don't have to deal with the fill plug. ruclips.net/video/RKTjRg5b00Y/видео.html
@@Hoster987 eventually find out the position for the right fill plug. Definitely paid for the mistake make myself. Wouldn’t blame anybody else but myself. But wishing people could use either driver or passenger side as a good reference instead of left or right. Sometimes, it may confuse people. Hopefully no one will make the same mistake again.
I just went with the white foam because it claims r4 and costs around half the price of the pink board. Aside from the cost and minimal r value difference, there is an advantage to the pink foam board and that is the fact that it can't form mold and is rated for underground applications, so you are also getting a little better insurance when your trailer starts leaking... because it is not, it is when. I wasn't too concerned about. What is a little concerning is how the metal studs are still nothing, and it seemed like once the wall had insulation added it made a huge difference blocking the solar heat for the most part, but seemed to also increase the heat soak at the metal studs. I could tell this because it was all happening same day and sun as the insulating and re sheeting was being done. It is a black trailer so that amplifies the heat issues from the sun. The next time I insulate a trailer, I'll either add 1/4 inch pink foam over everything before the wall sheeting, or figure out how much thicker the wood wall sheeting needs to be to gain that amount of r value. No one seems to talk about the floor.
I was just wondering about this for my beloved wife's Subaru. For all their craftsmanship, Subaru going the way of Apple & locking everything up w no ability to change a transmission filter which, as you all know, is critical to a tranny, well, I don't know if they continued with this trend. But if I had some spare denarii I'd put on an external filter of some sort. It's the worst idea since they started putting fuel pumps in tanks w a nylon stocking & thinking that's filter enuff... oh wait. Subaru did that too. And here I thought... what nice guys to put the oil filter on top... 🤔🤨🧐🥸😳🤓😎😁
Legend. Doing mine this weekend.
including the torque specs made this a 100/10
Or you can do what the service manual recomends, which is leave the damn thing alone.
Subaru of Japan and Canada both recommend service at approx. 30k. Only Subaru of America says it's lifetime. Good insurance.
sooooo, what does the fill plug on the drivers side of the front differential look like
How many miles did the engine have on it when you did this? Nvm, found 106k
This video helped a lot. Those plugs were so stuck in there. I think the Forester never had the rear differential serviced in 150k miles, so I decided to do it myself. Some of the hardest plugs I’ve had to break loose. Breaker bar really had to get wailed on hard to break them loose.
AAAAAWESOME BRO!!!! Nice Build!!!
The dealer not doing what you wanted or paid for is NOT OK.
Throttle is very easy to take off and it's a good idea to get a new gasket for it which replaces that screen because that gets super dirty and caked up too.
Gracias from brasil 🇧🇷 thank
you definately shouldnt be touching that fluid with bare skin..................
Great vid... cool looking trailer.
$2,400 was my quote for the entire assembly replacement. “How about no you crazy Dutch bastard?!”
Cool demonstration on this job thank you
Excellent tutorial! Details and all. 🎉 Ill try it myself and cross my fingers I don't screw up.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏼 very helpful
Best of best
Does this void the warranty?
yo, shoutout for the easy instructions my dude.
Does your Fozzy not have a rear diff temp sensor?
It’s that blue magic you need to add
Thank you for making the video relatable I can't believe how many videos I've watched that don't describe it the way you did a good job 😀👍
The RUclips gods delivered this video to me today, and I am super glad for it! I’ve been wanting to do exactly what you’ve done on your ceiling - a layer in between and a layer on top to stop thermal bridging - but I haven’t seen anyone else do it like that. You’re the first person! So I super appreciated this video. Thanks for sharing 🙏 PS I’m so glad you mentioned the white styrofoam making a mess! That’s the kind of thing that would ABSOLUTELY DRIVE ME NUTS, and so I appreciate the head’s up. I’ll pass that option on by!
This is awesome man. Thank you. About to do mine this weekend
@MT i cannot find the kit from my area though. Any other links?

great job.....if you knew the thread size of the fill port you could buy a barb fitting and fill it with the 3/8" tube by gravity......like you I see no point adding 5 quarts of new oil to 8 quarts of dirty oil.
