People in the pole vault oversimplify everything. There are different aspects and points of the vault where you are pushing pulling bracing or holding. @@ApexVaulting no, the top elbow should not be bending and pulling the way she was doing that is a bad habit as well. That elbow should be locked at the point of contact of the tip of the pole to the box. Having arm bent at that point developed bad habits. Everything else looked good

@@TheIronEagle I think we are talking about two different points in the jump. I like a slight bend in the top arm elbow because when the tip hits the back of the box the top arm then straightens and it downs get hit as far behind the head which then requires athlete to correct and row forward which slows down the swing speed. And as far as turning the top arm elbow must bend as your turn. Otherwise you won’t have an effective push off and you will fall off the top of the jump. • @ApexVaulting

Usually your hips move past the pole if you run into take off or you push your arms forward. Your hands should get above your head and allow you to pull with the bottom arm and upper back to accelerate the swing and that will allow your hips to stay behind the pole. If you are flat or stab the box your hips will go forward.

It has been suggested, "You can't teach what you don't know." It should, therefore, be a surprise to no one that Branko is such an amazing coach/teacher; he is an amazing scholar of the pole vault. As someone who has experienced the opposite in high school and college, namely either no coach or a coach who knew little or nothing about the pole vault, I can speak first hand to what a rewarding experience it is to have such a knowledgeable and motivating coach in Branko and Apex Vaulting.
