    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense 10 месяцев назад

      @rajvirratia6703 The best thing to do when working on a difficult or a new stroke is to go for a big target first. I think it would be a good idea to start with aiming in the middle of the service box as a first target. Contact point for the kick serve should be relatively high and near full extension of the body. Near full extension - because we need the ball to drop a little bit to help with the counter direction of the swing path to create the kick action. It's a bit hard to fully diagnose the root for why you are either hitting in the net or out of the court... do you have a video of yourself I can take a look at? I'd be happy to help, but it would be a bit easier to see exactly what's happening.

    It's a great Serve, Yup! Great form and coil. but the problem is that it's too predictable... It's a no brainer, kick serve to the backhand. You can easily run around to your forehand. His toss is almost 11 o'clock that's a kick Serve. 12 to 1 o'clock a flat Or slice

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, the toss is predictable for sure. If the opponent is willing to run around the backhand to hit a forehand outside the alley, it'll work for them. Still, they have given up a lot of tennis court in the process. Also, if they do this and are good at it, the kick can always go up the T as well. Thats a great observation!

      Haha, most pros will likely say that. I've been coaching for 20 years now and don't recommend my serve to my students. I guess it's something I did naturally from a young age and it's never had any poor effect on my body. In fact, it feels quite awkward to not do it. Your Pro is right, this works for me. What kind of serve do you have? Platform, Pinpoint?

    • @RobManser77
      @RobManser77 9 месяцев назад

      To me it looks like a fairly mild backwards bend in the spine, even if I pause it at the lowest position. The crazy thing is the 90 degree bend in the knee.

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense 9 месяцев назад

      Yes, I think people fail to realize its not really a back bend much at all. I addressed this to other comments on this video. You actually watched the whole thing and took the initiative to check the loading properly. What do you think of the 90deg bend in the knee? Is the load too deep?

  • @martinstockinger2461
    @martinstockinger2461 Год назад

    Why do you overexaggerate the lean-back so much? That does not create any additional power and is even weak in terms of kinetic chain. Looks like you did that for the looks?

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense Год назад

      It's something I've naturally done for most of my tennis career. Haha, if I did it for the look sand the "no additional power created" seems like a pretty dumb idea. And who would care what the serve looks like anyway at this level? Through my college and money/futures qualies events between 2005-2014 the only modifications I made to my serve were purely form/function related. By no means for any aesthetic purposes at all. I had an abbreviated motion before this video (about a couple years before) and decided to change for the sake a more fluidity. The core load that I have has been there since I can remember, pre-teen days.

    • @martinstockinger2461
      @martinstockinger2461 Год назад

       @PURETENNISsense thx for your answer :) Well, I might be wrong and it just suits you and your feel - yet I wonder if you could save some energy and maybe even gain some spin/speed if you just did not get into this last few centimeters of lean-back. TBH it looks really energy intensive. I am sure its still a good serve but to me it looks just a bit overcomplex

    • @berfava
      @berfava Год назад

      I disagree, the more you bend the more potential energy you gather to be unleashed during the snapback which he apparently fully released (reverted) before contact. No need to say one needs to respect his own flex limit to avoid harm.

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense Год назад

      In terms of complexity, could be. However, its the serve I've had since a young age and it ironically wasn't at all mentioned by my coaches growing up to be a bit on the extreme side. Funny though, as I see my serve now, I wouldn't recommend it to any of my students in terms of how I load. I know a good bit of this extra load comes from the fact that I do a pinpoint stance. Platform is definitely less involved in terms of center of gravity shifting.

    I think what you both are doing is great! In the first point you can also split step forwards to help you identify and reach short balls instead of waiting for it to come into your contact point (especially at 0:09). When you're hitting a slice serve are you rotating your shoulders to aim the ball? When I want a wide serve, I rotate so that my shoulders are parralell to the net at contact. When I want to slice into their body, my shoulders are 45 degree (front shoulder's pointing to the net post). I've started seeing Mark Kovac's videos where he talks about a problem w/ amateurs overrotating so I'm not sure if I should always make contact facing the netpost and aim using wrist/hand position? Or if this is a pro thing to add disguise (which is nice but low on importance)

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense Год назад

      This is a fantastic question! I'm thinking now as about what I do specificially on slice serves..... I believe my body would be facing the net (shoulders parallel to net) for a wide serve as well. I'm watching this slow-mo video of my slice serve wide (ruclips.net/user/shortsNaanybsoLmk?feature=share) and it looks like what you are describing at contact. To be completely honest, I don't think about my shoulder turn as much as I do my body rotation and my wrist at contact. When I think of hitting a slice serve during points it's more focused on my contact point & wrist with body-rotation. Not to say that shoulder turn isn't something I consider, rather I believe if I focus on the above then my shoulder turn happens anyway. I believe Kovac's is probably right about over-rotating since I've seen it in adults I teach or with people who have learned the slice as a result of watching pro tennis or thinking that massive rotation gives more slice. When you mention disguise, I would say that could come from a similar toss for all serves. Myself, I have distinct tosses for each although over the last couple years they've smeared closer together which is fine. I guess it does give more disguise; however, I don't believe it's that significant of an advantage until you get to top 200-500 ATP. Just my opinion though from playing Futures and such. Hope this answers the question.

      One of those rare exceptions where PTS/Boss won more points overall (68 vs 62) but not the match.

      @@Tennisbull-match-statistics Crazy right! 6pts is a lot in a tennis match. Thank you for the awesome stats! Was quite interesting to see the results.

      This analysis is amazing. After seeing it I simply can not believe we "won". Probably shows we had maybe a 10% chance to win a full third. Why I don't like the trend toward shortening tennis matches (no-ad scoring, super breakers) as it brings in an element of luck and really can come to a few big points. Thanks UD, very interesting stuff.

    50yos comment about the back bend expecting a wide kick is so real, I've watched all your videos and I still can't figure out how you do that. All my muscle memory and recognition says you're going wide!

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense 2 года назад

      I don't do it intentionally. I guess it's been my motion for so long that it's just how it is now. Now that I've seen the footage, I can see what 50YO means... I see it too, looks like a kick wide.

    The point at 9:15, where D2 gets the crosscourt rip back is one for the highlight reel.

      Was a superb half-volley pickup! Their volleys that point were pretty awesome.

    Boss played back when PTS was returning 50YO, but would charge the net after returning himself. Interesting. Epic tiebreaker.

      Probably bc I likely told him to on the 1st serve. 50YO's pace and the fast courts made it really tough to get back x-crt.

    Coach if a player hits a drop and it is out of the volley players reach. Which player should attempt to get it.

      The baseliner. However, a good volleyer can anticipate and react to the dropshot, call switch and make a solid play on the ball. Always depends on the situation for sure and each point will be unique under this circumstance.

    • @PURETENNISsense

      It's to force them to go Down-The-Line on the return rather than Cross-Court right to my partner. Play didn't work that well though for us. They hit a really solid return of serve.

    Hey coach why does the guy with the white shirt and white hat keep running in after the serve

    • @PURETENNISsense
      @PURETENNISsense 2 года назад

      It's called a Serve-and-volley play. It's a good move in doubles (and singles) to put a lot of pressure on your opponents.

      "Also at 2:00 why did you run in just in front of the service line" I'm guessing you mean in front of the baseline? The server has a really good spin serve. Stepping in front of the baseline allows me to take the return at a reasonable height rather than it getting way over my head. @ 4:16 D2 Sub was doing a play that doesn't allow us to know where he's moving after the server hits. It's a smart play to keep the return team on edge and catch them by surprise. My partner hit a great return though.
