Dyeing Some Humbug Yarn and Extra Fleece
I love the pure silk. It's like got a touch of Mother of Pearl.
@@JDiamondW1 it came out so pretty. I love it.
Suggestion for the youtube book. What about mixing dye with water and then putting it in a spray bottle set to spray and see how that does with speckles? You could put acid in the dye water mix as well as a test.
@@JDiamondW1 adding it to the list for sure! Love having reasons to write in it. 😉
I haven't started dyeing myself yet but when I do start speckling I plan on using one of those hand held collendars. They tend to be metal with a long handle with a round mesh area. They make some with larger holes and others with smaller. The smaller would make smaller speckles I think.
@@JDiamondW1 great idea. I should try that next time cause obviously this didn't work for speckles lol.
Now that's what I call a happy accident! :-) I might try the same with a navy blue as the base. Pretty!!
A very happy accident. I highly suggest giving it a go.
I love how the black adds a bit of drama. Love the sample. The last experiment, put in a plastic dish so its not stuck in the dish. You may have a better chance breaking it up.
I'll make sure to do that. I have no idea if it'll even work but I'm gonna try it.
im a stationary fan too bahaha
Of course. We're 100% related somehow lol.
i was cringing when you added the black, but OMG tamsin that is stunning i may have to try this myself . thanks for sharing this amazing experiment xx
I expected it to be a mess so color me surprised when it turned out lol. Give it a shot. I'm for sure going to try that again in the future.
I wonder what would happen if you picked up some dye on a paint brush and flicked or tapped the dye off it 🧐😜
No idea but I'll add it to the list of things to try.
It turned out lovely.
Thank you.
Love the dyed floof. Not speckled, but super pretty. And that journal is gorgeous! Good on you for actually using it! I have a thing for collecting pretty stationary, and then thinking it's too pretty to use. ❤ Tamantha
See that was my problem. I'd collect the pretty notebooks and then save them for something special. And of course nothing was ever special enough. So I just use them now and enjoy them while they last.
Enjoy your chaos, cats & now notebooks & pens. I can't go by a stationery aisle w/o buying one!
So glad I'm not the only one lol. Stationary is another happy place.
Shame on me for doubting you. That turned out so beautiful and here I was Nay saying from the beginning to the end. I bow to you Captain Chaos❤
Hey i doubted it myself. No one is more surprised than me which is honestly what I live for lol.
Oh my gawd, it's so pretty.😍😍
Thank you! I love it despite not knowing weekday the heck I was doing lol.
Love love love the harmonizing of the overdyed black. Call me a mud lover! The subtlety is gorgeous. Why do we love stationary? I’m so glad/sad that (unless you’re in a big rich city) there are no more stationary stores! Light blue rag paper, mmmm, dreamland! Thank you for the fun video!
Oh I hear you on the stationary stores. That's something just so wonderful about the right paper products.
Experiment successful 👏👏👏
Again just not what I expected lol.
😍❣️♥️🤩
"Don't poke it!!!" Lol, the struggle is real.
@@LisaMyEclecticLife IKR? Is almost irresistible.
Wow. I have to give this a go 🎉
Do it. It's such a fun texture and unique look.
Awesome. Looks great 👍
Thank you!
So interesting how the different dye molecules were pulled out separately... Ooh, it would be so interesting to mix several dyes into one color and then put it with a fiber that makes the colors split and see if it comes out muddy-ugly, muddy-pretty, or not muddy at all. I might have to try it, I think it would be so good on silk. Not sure I still have undyed silk roving though... It's just so good to dye and spin. 😂
@micahmilne we have to try all the things! I'll put that on the list of future experiments. It sounds fun!
Hi Tamsin! I like that you take the wool from step one to swatch! Take good care! ❤
Everyone seems to be enjoying it so that's what I'll do. I have no problem swatching.
Super interesting....thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed.
Definitely a fascinating experiment. It’s so interesting how there can be so much variation from the one dye bath. My favourite is the silk too. 😊
Just shows that just because you don't like the color on one fiber doesn't mean it won't be entirely different on another. Just try it!
i felt the strain of your desire to poke it. i too wanted to poke it. it wanted to be poked. your resistance was impressive, because i most definitely would have poked (and re-poked) it! serious question... what is the fiber content of that fauxgora? i've been playing around with dyeing (wool-free) polyamide/cotton blend yarns, and that polyamide stuff takes up acid dyes with the richness and sheen of the best silks. you can get some pretty interesting results, if there's enough polyamide in the blend. i was hoping the fauxgora would behave the same way. as for the rambouillet... i really love that breed for the loft and bounce it brings to yarns, but it does tend to mute the color of dyes, resulting in that chalky pastel appearance. maybe blend that with some silk to get a bit more light reflecting from the surface of the rambouillet, like it does with the yak/silk you dyed. that is stunning with the silk practically shining color out of that blend, and the spun sample gets the imagination going.
The poking is a serious thing and I don't know how i resisted lol. The fauxgora is a nylon as far as I know. I keep planning to blend it but I get to excited and just spin it lol.
If I had to choose one, I'd have to go with the the silk it's just something else x
The silk is so gorgeous. I might dye the same color but on properly soaked silk and see how it turns out.
I love all these there great I want some of those dyes x
I'm very happy with them. Almost time to order some new colors to play with.
What an awesome experiment! I'm amazed at how little took up in the ramboullet. Love your videos! I was talking right along. Don't poke! Lol
Resisting the poking is so hard! Lol. It's up there with not adding more dye.
Omg I am in love with that colourway it's gorgeous 😍
I've made notes for future projects.
Yeah another one xx
Once I start i can't stop!
Hi Tamsin, I hope you're OK and puss tats are too xxx ❣️❣️❣️🐈⬛🐈⬛ Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast and your expertise. You're very much appreciated. ✨️🌟🌞 I love your experiments, they're always amazing. 🌞✨️🌟🎉 I was as surprised as you were as to how each of the colours on the different Fibres looked so very different, even though you dyed them all at the same time.🎉🎉 I love how each of the samples looked too.🎉🎉🎉 Happy Dyeing, Spinning, Knitting and Crotcheting Fibre Friend 🎉🎡🧶🧶🐑🥰 Take care, stay safe and well 🙂🙂 Lots of love and Big Hugs to you and puss tats ..Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🐈⬛🐈⬛🫂🫂

Absolutely love the faux cashmere and the silks and that yak wow I'm just in love with them all x
They came out interesting for sure. So much fun.
Cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate you doing knit/ crochet swatches! So few creators do that but it is wonderful to see how things actually work up in a fabric!
@azlynarnett1793 I've only started doing it all the time lately because people really like it and I've found i like seeing the results too.
Very interesting experiment. Love how the silk came out. You are so much fun ❤
@sandybrown1439 aww thanks! I'm just being myself.
@bffiberarts that's why I love having you for a bestie. 😁

@sadiesspincraft6319 i think we should check family trees and see if we're related lol.
I like dye with an e lmao love it x

Yay yeet for dye. And I'm mad at youtube they didn't tell me you had uploaded. But I'm here now whoop xx
@sadiesspincraft6319 they never say. That's why I get behind on your videos too. But then I get to binge a bunch so I'm the end it's alright lol.
Awesome experiment! Thanks for sharing.. 🤗 Love all your content… so real life!
Aww thanks. I just feel like I'm visiting with friends when I'm filming and we're playing around.
Very interesting experiment. I really love how the yak turned out.
Yak/ silk is so my favorite blend. Always turns out amazing.
Here for the weird and loving it!💜💜💜
Yay! Weirdos unite!
@@bffiberarts I have such an urge to reach through the screen and make an art batt with all those beautiful samples!🤩😍
@@beelady3919 that could be fun too. So many ideas.

Great video, I’ve never dyed so thank you for all the info. I’m getting my 1st spinning wheel at the end of November, been using a drop spindle up to now. Thank you again.
@karenarnott387 that's so exciting! Welcome to the rabbit hole lol.
Great experiment!
Thank you!
I loved this experiment! I totally agree with you about the dye striking to the superwash/merino first, leaving less for the other braids. In addition, I think the red probably struck a bit sooner than the blue on that fibre, cos the yak-silk and silk look slightly bluer. I suspect the fauxgora and rambouillet are much slower to dye than the others are, and all they got were the leftovers. Also maybe that red dye has yellow in it? Fantastic experiment ... and that silk is so fab 👌
It was fun I wasn't completely expecting. I knew the different fibers would dye differently but not like that lol. Good ideas on why. I could spend forever trying to figure it out.
What a great video. 🥰 love it 😻
It was fun. Glad you enjoyed it.
Love the colours on the silk and yak/silk. 💜💜💜 I wouldn't have had your willpower though - I would've poked that dyepot! 🤣 ❤ Tamantha
Bwahahaha! I'm so glad we all understand the urge!
The Restrain !!! I felt the pain 😝!! Really fab experiment . The dark wool and the silk delicious . The fauxgora very interesting ,, Did you say nylon mix? The rambolet was next to it right? Slower uptake seems a likely answer but also wonder if the nylon got too hot maybe and released other elements into the mix? I love how one experiment can lead to others .. and more unsettled sleeps 😂. Fab !
It was so hard to stick to the plan! Lol. Yes the fauxgora was next to the ramboullet and it is nylon. I'll have to keep that in mind. Good suggestion.
