Carol of the Bells - Geoff Castellucci - Bass Bell Goodness
#reaction What an amazing, in inspiring, yet in your face arrangement. I swear Geoff is going to be the first one to invent the negative bass notes. You know when you go bellow the entire zero octave on the keyboard? Yeah, he was sure to hit notes that low. Elephants will be able to communicate with Geoff soon! Be sure to give Geoff the love by going to the original video!

VoicePlay Reaction Sleeping in the Cold Below WARFRAME ft Omar Cardona
I had not picked up on the swinging rhythm as "an audio picture of a bell." Very nice. The bells will be echoing in my head for quite a while.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉😊
Thank you so much for listening and sharing the love!
Another great reaction. (Yeah, I'm giong through your backlog right now ^^) Did you know that VoicePlay just released another Warframe cover, officially sponsored by the people behind the game? (Apparently they were as impressed as we fans were.) The guys are channelling the 90's boyband style of in-game world-famous group "On-Lyne", getting ready to perform THE show of the millennium on New Year's Eve of 1999. And although VoicePlay always have had a flair for the creepy and ominous, I'm sure nothing will go wrong this time. Right?
I heard from a gamer friend at work, but there have been so many new Christmas releases, I am going to have to wait... may be the perfect song to start off the New Year?
Thank you for the enjoyable and entertaining reaction! I love that you clearly had a blast, and I'm happy that you're motivated to keep practicing. You also brought up some observations I haven't seen anyone else make yet. The audio interpretation of a bell swinging back and forth? So clever! - And I absolutely wouldn't put it past Geoff to have exactly that in mind when arranging. While his stunning voice captivated me initially, by now I'm just as amazed by Geoff's skills as an arranger. That combination of thoughtfulness in intent and depth of understanding of what makes the original great, coupled with his unique style and creative daring is a rare delight. (Layne Stein from VoicePlay is an equally gifted and masterful arranger in his own right, and they complement each other so well. EDIT: Also full credit where due to Eli. I haven't seen enough of his arrangements to get a clear picture of his style, but he surely is a creative force to be reckoned with as well.) I can only imagine how much skill and hard work it takes to be able to do what Geoff does and make it sound - and look - so effortless. Powerful *and* graceful.
I totally believe it is his skill and interpretations of the music he does that makes me keep wanting more. He is truly using his talents to the maximum level and then going Super Sayin and pushes well beyond the 'limits' each time. His art and craft keep getting honed and fine-tuned. I can't even imagine what a powerhouse he will be in a year... five...
This such an epic version of this carol. Like you've never heard it before. His lowest in this one is D1 so still has a few piano keys to work towards.
A few... just not many. I appreciate his direction and take of this carol. So well done.
Geoff always does great arrangements, but this went to a whole new level. I had never imagined this approach to a carol - ominous, kind of threatening even - and he pulls it off brilliantly. This could be on the soundtrack of a war movie set at Christmas time. Someone please make that movie, lol.
I agree! With what other commenters have shared with the origin from the Ukraine, it is fitting to be sure. Thank you so much for watching!
The last singer on the right is Daryl!😂
So not Geo-pha-pha... got it! He has such a great sense of humor.
Loved your reaction. I’m from PA and spending Christmas with my family. Voice Play is the best. They never disappoint me.
They are such professionals. I truly appreciate each of them. Have a Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you for watching!
Their names are: Darry, Jeoph, Geoff, Goff, and Jeff. Jeff’s my favorite ❤️
Oops, Darryl
@ that’s what i get for trying to type with my gloves on. Ha.
Ha ha ha, just like Newheart! Hi, I am Bob, this is my brother Daryl and my other brother Darrell.
Just so you know, Geoff & Voice play do not worry about copyright on their videos
That's awesome, thank you. If they need me to promote them sign me up! They are so amazing to their fans and community.
😂😂 Carol of the hells is quite the Freudian slip. That said, this song definitely sounds like a battle anthem.
From what other commenters have stated, this song originates from the country of Ukraine. It fits for sure. It is such a solid work of musical art. I am so happy he released it.
There have been many great comments about this cover, but one of my faves goes something along the lines of: a piano listened to this and the left hand keys asked “what note is THAT?😂😂😂😂
Ha! That rocks! and the key that was asking is the last one to the left... I feel a meme coming on! LOL
Thunder of the Bells! The really deep notes that Geoff hits while he's doing the chorus with the camera shakes are G1, Eb1, F1, D1 - all subharmonics. Apparently his lowest full chest note in this is a G1, which isn't anything new for Geoff - he's been able to hit that note for quite a while. Speaking of notes "only elephants can hear" - there IS a vocalist who can hit those notes, apparently. Tim Storms has the record for the lowest notes/tones produced by a human voice - about an octave and a half below a piano keyboard, well into infrasound range. The tones are so low that the basically nobody would be able to hear anything at all, and you'd need special mics to be able to pick those up - regular audio mics wouldn't even come close to having the dynamic range to hear them.
Ok, that is crazy amazing! I can hit G1, but I have not learned the technique for subharmonics as of yet. So I hit the proverbial glass floor. LOL. I very much appreciate everything Geoff does, especially when he brings out the clones. There is a place an purpose for everything and the sound that comes with is amazing!
So much fun!
Agreed. You never know what to expect from Geoff. Which direction he will pick. I stopped trying to guess because I usually miss the mark by that much! <------------------- ------------------------------------->
What a MASTERPIECE!!!!!! Besides his voice, that arrangement!!!! Hells bells indeed! I had the same feelings . . . about thirty times now!!!!
Ha, ha, ha! Well said! If I can only get this song stuck in my head, all will be well!
Yet another Christmas song I really didn't care for. Geoff's arrangement has me loving it. The other is one he arranged a couple years ago God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen went straight to my Christmas playlist. This one also made it.
I can appreciate your perspective! I have to say I love when music sooths the soul of other. It's why I started reacting. Music is true power in every sense.
Geoff arrangements and video productions are wonderful
I totally agree. He is most certainly using his talents to the fullest!
Beautiful... 🔔
I so agree. What an amazing rendition.
Carol of the Hells. 😂😂😂 Well, he is down in the depths ...... 😂😂
Yes, yes it was. Wasn't there a movie called Journey to the center of the Earth? This would have been perfect!
haha, fun fact you may not know, there already is a bass singer who sings in the negative octaves. his name is Tim Storms and he holds the Guinness World Record for both the "lowest note produced by a human" and the "widest vocal range". his lowest produced sound is in the -7th octave, that's negative 7 octaves, at 0.189 Hz. which ofc can't be heard by humans, so it doesn't work for music 😅😅 if you go lower than what Geoff currently does, it stops being music and just becomes a frequency, so it just wouldnt sound good in a song 😄
So true, but if you need to have a water in a glass shake for the Jurassic Park 89 just hand Tim or Geoff a mike. LOL. Thanks for broadening my world even more. All I can say that is amazing, crazy and super cool all in one @huldradraco. Makes me wonder if he did that in a car, it would blow out the windows... just sayin!
@@ESClone27 well... Geoff has said he doesn't sing bass while driving, because the resonance of his voice vibrate his eyeballs so much it makes his vision go blurry 😂
wow, I'd completely missed the rhythmic swaying of the bell in the audio - great point, thanks.
Thank you for the complement. I feel if 100 people would hear a song, all of them could like it, but for 100 different reasons in what they observed. I am happy to share my perspective with you @Aurora-cv5to
I've been looking forward to your reaction to this and you didn't disappoint me! I have listened to this song countless times since he dropped it on Patreon. It is now my favorite of Geoff's arrangements. I'm not sure if you're aware that this song originated in the Ukraine. Geoff gives a bit of the history of the song in his video description. The national colors of the Ukraine are yellow & blue and next time you watch this notice Geoff is wearing those colors and there are subtle tones of them in the background & lighting. Also, to me, the album art looks very much like bells in a war zone. I don't know if this is Geoff & Kathy's nod of support to the Ukraine or just a nod to the heritage of the song but either way I think it's wonderful that they did this. As of my writing this, Geoff's channel is showing 635K views for this and it came out only 9 days ago. Extremely impressive for any video but especially a "Christmas" specific song and boy does he deserve those views for this masterpiece. Oh, and BTW, I loved your squirrel comment at the beginning. That has become a running joke between my hubby & myself when it comes to me gaming and always going off on side quests, LOL! Happy Holidays to you & your family.
I see the nods to Ukraine as well. In fact I sent a link to several of the people I follow who report on the war. I especially like the part Echon commented upon where Geoff is singing in his higher register. It floats almost as if over the landscape of a short ceasefire only to go back to the ringing warning of heavy cathedral bells.
ESClone not Echone mistyped
FINALLY someone else noticed the nods to the ukrainian origin of this carol! Another reactor asked what kind of xmas is celebrated here and imho it is the christmas of a country at war, defending itself against a superior foe invading
@@EnsembleStantePede I'm glad I'm not the only one . I read another comment on another reaction where someone mentioned the Ukrainian color scheme, etc. and someone else replied saying they didn't think that was what Geoff intended because he's never been political. I personally don't feel that showing support for people living through horrific times is political, it's compassionate.
@@Jamie_T.I think along the same lines.
Who woke the DRAGON? Smaug ate the bells and spit out this CHRISTMAS FIRE!! Dang this is awesome! What a performance and arrangement. Props to Geoff......
I love The Hobbit reference! Yes so true, if Smaug and Geoff had a battle of voices, Smaug would be sent packing!
Are you having a stroke? You seem so flustered and at a loss for words at the beginning in creating... a...simple...sentence.
As many reactors as Geoff has rendered speechless over the years, and that's where your brain went?
@@karenponchak5304 Most of us generally ignore this curmudgeon, always the negative comments toward reactors. He may clap back at you like he did me last year. He should probably start his own reaction channel because he knows more about how it should be done.
@@Denalicat Yes, he is very annoying trolling all the reactor's channels and he should either create his own channel or get a life instead of bullying reactors.
Thank you for the kind words, I very much appreciate it @Denalicat and @acorrado5529. I do this to improve my ability to communicate as well as to share the love of music with the community. I have full confidence over time I will improve even more. :)
@@ESClone27 I am sure you will and this community will continue to grow as we all build relationships. But at this point You are doing just fine.
Blew it out the park!!!😊😊😊
If this were a baseball game, the only thing left of the ball would be the busted leather cover of the ball. What an amazing arrangement!
Thanks for this reaction to Geoff's epic Christmas release. I have run out of superlatives! A five octave vocal range is a powerful thing. The thing about Geoff's range is that he has three of his five octaves in full chest voice. I enjoy the way Geoff arranges music nearly as much as his vocals. Judging by his album art, the Geoffquakes did some damage! The community aspect of sharing the love for VoicePlay's and Geoff's solo music is something wonderful. Living in a time where so much positive energy is at our fingertips through the internet is a blessing.
I felt the same way; completely blown away. That arrangement!
I totally agree with you @vdoyne. You, I and about 95% of the people out there of mainstream news and media glorifying negativity has gotten really old. Music truly is the way to heal.
This song is EPIC and it brought out the conductor in many reactors 😅❤ Geoff's covers are always so well arranged, his voice is superbe (like always), but the instrumentals in this one were really next level 🤩 The "middle Geoff" had a way to stare down the camera, like he was right before going into battle... I felt a little scared and intimidated 😮 I'm not much into all the normal cheesy Christmas songs, but this one... good Lord... I'm listening to it on repeat since it dropped (literally 😂) last Friday 👍🏻 Thank you for your reaction 🫶🏻
I totally agree with your assessment! This was not cheesy, but raw power about to overload. Thanks for watching!
Love this! You were right, Rob was front and center, Tim has some gray in his hair and Chance had the knit cap on. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer and Adam Bastien is the new guy with dark hair and a little gray on the sides. He is the high tenor so he will sing higher than anyone in a video. This was filmed in Utah so those were Aspen trees and not birch although I love birch trees too. Home Free has so many good Christmas songs. Try Angels We Have Heard on High, O HolyNight, Mary Did You Know. They have lots of funny ones too. Just so you know, there have been 2 personnel changes Chris Rupp (Adam Rupp’s brother) was in HF (usually wears a ball cap or cowboy hat)and is shown in videos from 2013-2016 and left to go on his own and Chance took his place. Then Austin Brown (redhead and high tenor) was in HF from 2013-2024. Austin left to go on his own just 6 months ago. They are all talented men. Enjoy!!!
Noice! Brothers singing together is amazing, the Jackson 5, Rupps, not my brother and I though. We could reenact the entire scenes from the movie Spaceballs though... LOL. Thank you for the information and letting me know the history. I love history and the detail on a band is no different!
Good job on the names. Adam Rupp is the beatboxer. Adam Bastien is the one in the camel coat. In most cases, Adam Rupp does all the beatboxing. Adam Chance usually shares the bass with Tim or goes to baritone, although he has done beatboxing sometimes.
Thank you! Provided I don't see a shiny squirrel, I should have their names down good!
Love it❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #AdamRuppSinging #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest
Thank you so much for the complement. I am so glad you enjoyed it!
Great reaction. I like it when they take a classic song and put their own twist to it. This was filmed in Utah.
One of the few states I have left to visit. This country is huge and has so many splendors. So cool!
🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅
Thanks for the Santa parade of listeners XD
Simple explanation - this is "ear candy"!
mmmmm eeeeeeear candy... mmmm
Home Free are never flamboyant with the more sacred songs, unlike some groups/performers. They 'pray', they 'praise', but they never say, "Hey! Look at us, aren't we fantastic!". Even their first release of God Bless the USA is simply a love song to the country, and it also was shot in the perfect scenery for it, in front of Mt. Rushmore.
For the mountain of talent each of them has been gifted. They come across as some of the humblest individuals in the industry. They love their fans, and even give them some cameos!
Louis Armstrong did this in 1952. I think Satchmo loaned J None his voice for the scatting. They got a new robot camera! I love this one as well. Merry Christmas to one and all! By the way, the US Navy has moved him from a baritone voice to a bass voice. I was born in Jacksonville FL in 1951, grew up at Cape Canaveral, college in Gainesville, then moved to the Tallahassee area after my husband's job went to China (he didn't). Currently thinking of selling off 2 10-acre parcels so I can build a 2 bedroom house and get out of the little camper. That will leave me about 57 acres to play with. Lost him to colon cancer 8 yrs ago and have recovered enough to enjoy life again.
I agree J definitely did sound like Satchmo when he scatted. Sorry for your loss and am proud you have gone through the grieving process (it's so important!) Yes, enjoy life as there is so much to see... and hear! The music being release keeps getting better!
You are correct on most of the names Rob ,Tim and Chance the other Adam’s are Adam Rupp ( beatboxer) and Adam Bastien ( bass like the fish -Teen ) Home Free are amazing at picking absolutely gorgeous locations for their videos. While they were in Austria they filmed How Great Thou Art in the Austrian Alps its stunning scenery. I love the modern take on this classic Christmas song. After 2 heart wrenching videos ( Let Me Come Home a Adam Bastien original and The Greatest Gifts Of All a Tim original they released a hilarious unhinged chaotic video Santa Clause Is Coming To Town 😂 Friday they are releasing another hilarious video Your A Mean One Mr Grinch 😂
Woot! I am learning, thanks for letting me know. I have visited the Swiss Alps long long ago. If they are anything like the Austrian Alps, then oh yeah! Amazing!
@ Your Welcome 😊
Thank you for the reaction. All the guys (except Rob) say Rob is best/ most skilled singer. Of course, as mentioned, they all are very skilled and talented and the sum of the parts is exceptional. They released a hilarious video last Friday, and a new humorous one will be released this Friday. There are 2 Christmas originals they recently released as well (one by Bastien, one by Tim) - both emotional. Keep up the good work.
And Rob has such a versatile voice. Gospel Rob, R&B Rob, Opera Rob . . .and each one fantastic.
I am going to get to all of their new Christmas releases to be sure! It's hard for me not to like an amazing Christmas song.
@@nancyholter5646 not to mention he can put on quite a southern twang for a Minnesota guy. 😊
I first heard this released by Harry Connick Jr and then shortly thereafter by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. I had never heard it because it’s a little off the beaten path so did go out and look it up and found out it was a Louis Armstrong song. I thought J did a great job of channeling his inner Satchmo. This was near PattyCake Productions but their studio was full of scenery for their Villains Lair series so temporarily rented nearby space in the same mall. Layne forgot the key, so while they were all standing around waiting they did a little impromptu concert for everyone. I’m sure the shoppers were amused. This had to be constructed from the ground up so I’m glad you liked it. Michael Winslow for VoicePlay 😂😂😂
The Satchmo was quite present. I love when scat is incorporated into a song. Not PattyCake but close. Missed it by that much. I think you are the first person who caught my Michael Winslow reference. LOL
Speaking of J. and "also singing high", that last "you" goes J., Cesar, Eli, J., Cesar, Eli, Cesar, J. from low to high.
I can't believe you caught that. Thanks for breaking it down. So in a math equation, it would be (J. + Cesar + Eli) x (J. + Cesar + Eli) x (Cesar + J) = Awesome!
I loved seeing you laugh so much! I’m in KY, USA. I’m sure others mentioned it but this is an old Louis Armstrong song so J None was channeling him a bit 😂
He was totally channeling Louis Armstrong and did so well. I wonder if they would think of doing some hardcore Blues. I bet it would be amazing.
@ That definitely would be!!
I'm old enough to remember this song, but I don't. It never made it into the every Christmas playlist on the radio. This was so much fun. Thanx for reacting to it. Rural North Carolina, Christmas dinner with my daughter and kids.
You are quite welcome, thank you for listening. Not sure why it was a deep cut causing radio to skip over it, what a great song.
Louis Armstrong sang this in 1953. At the end J None did a very good impression of him.
J did an amazing impression. I love when they weave in different types of music. It's like opening audio surprises.
@@ESClone27 They've done just about any genre you can think of. The video they released yesterday, Friday, is from the Warframe1999 video game. They are a boy band. "Party of Your Lifetime" featuring Omar Cardona.
Thanks for this enjoyable reaction to VoicePlay's latest! Friday was a great day with both VoicePlay and Geoff solo dropping their Christmas releases. Epic! VoicePlay is so much fun! Love them! We need more happiness in this world and can depend upon VoicePlay to make us smile and laugh! Geoff's Christmas release is also epic. Judging from his album art, those Geoffquakes did some damage!
Thank you for listening... yes with all the amazing music being released this time of year, I am increasing how often I release new videos to try and keep up. The key word is try. XD
Loved your reaction thank you so much. Make sure you react to Geoff's Carol of the Bells
Thank you for listening! I cannot wait to react to Goff's Carol of the Bells. soon!
Ive neever seen a techno Viking before now
Too funny, outside of the original techno Viking somewhere in the world of RUclips. I totally agree, it was such a twist on the song.
They did a great homage to Louis Armstrong.
Yes, Louis Armstrong was such a vocal talent. Loved his work and now I understand why I enjoyed this so much.
Oh, they always make us smile! And why do a conventional Christmas song when you can do this 😉. ⚘️🕊
You are dropping facts, and I love it. So true.
J None is currently singing bass for the Navy, so...
so the amazingness blended in very nicely. The doors just blew further open. Any more open and they will make the house of acapella inside out.
This was filmed with a new robotic camera that was programmed to the music. They are always upping their game. They just keep getting better. Louis Armstrong did this in the 50's, therefore the jazzy feel. Love it.
Robotic cameras... I like technology, but holy mackerel. Guess it's time to get me a rocking chair and a squirrel pew pew.
I absolutely loved your reaction to this! Frankly, I do the same thing every time I watch it with them popping here & there, LOL. Just a few things you may or may not be aware of: J sings bass in the Navy choir (I believe he is actually the lead bass and he certainly has a great mentor in Geoff). Both Layne & Geoff are amazing whistlers. Good example of Geoff is in his Ghost Riders. Also hear it in If I Were a Rich Man/Girl but I'm not sure if it's Layne or Geoff in that one. I'm jealous because I can't whistle at all 😢. This is Layne's third arrangement of this song for VoicePlay. See Huldra Draco's channel for a great peep at all three versions! They used a robotic arm to film this, a new toy they now have added to their repertoire. I'm really looking forward to your reaction to Geoff's solo Christmas offering this year - he saved his bass blasting for that!
Oh, I do remember Ghost Riders, so true! J sings bass... sure why not, they all are like the voice Swiss Army knives of acapella. I very much noticed the movements were clean. Would have been hard to do the timing with a man with a camera harness.
