I love the MiniDisc display! I still use mine and imported my wife's community radio show last night as a WAV over USB2 via OSX Snow Leopard emulated under Fusion! It's still useful though I wish I knew someone who repaired them!

I have fond memories of the IIci. With some upgrades, they were still very useful machines almost a decade after they were made.

For what its worth with regards to Quake, software mode is actually better than the 3D accelerator mode, it was never fixed, but shadow effects look better in software rendering. 3d accelerating took it out for some reason, and ID Software never fixed it. So a lot of the atmosphere was removed.
